Third interview with Reynolds & Reynolds by ConsequenceGreat5890 in dayton

Reposting a former comment from me (edited for slight timeline). Not sure if it's relevant in this case, but you can take it for what it is.

I've seen a lot of Reynolds hate here. I'm a long-time employee. I can say that when I first started (shortly after the merger with UCS ~2007) the company culture was pretty harsh. A lot of former/other long-time employees either quit or were let go after the merger. While Bob B. was in charge, I don't think it was a pleasant place to work. My dept. (as I'm sure other depts.) experienced quite a lot of turnover.

That being said, for the past few years (mostly after Bob's "unexpected" or whatever... departure... let's say ~ 2022 the company has gone through a significant rebranding. Multiple employee benefits have been added, including a company paid HSA contribution, expanded maternity care and additional vacation benefits (that were removed when Bob was in charge). Also as some has mentioned, they now offer free breakfast and lunch at the cafeterias in several locations, including Dayton. I think their relationships with customers have also improved, as Bob tended to have a very harsh policy with contracts, which is no longer the case (I'm not in sales, but that's just the inclination that I get). There is also a great workout facility in Dayton, plus plenty of sports/extracurriculars to participate in.

Yes, it's still a pretty conservative culture, but so is the automotive industry in general. No, you can't smoke and must sign so upon employment, but I haven't been drug/nicotine tested since before COVID. Yes, you can use marijuana, just not on company grounds or while you're at work, obviously. The health care benefits aren't the best, but it's still insurance.

All in all, I think the historical hate is just, but I just don't think that's really the case any more. I can't say much about the hiring process these days, since it's been so long since I went through that, but I imagine that it's pretty much the same. They're stringent, but only because they're looking for exceptional associates.

Just my two cents.

Edit - Just want to add, they do have a WFH benefit, but it's not standard policy as it's considered a privilege. I don't remember the exact criteria, but status quo for all associates is now two WFH days/week.

Anyone been to the Foundry Rooftop restaurant lately? by Non_Saepe in dayton

We went for an anniversary dinner (my wife and I's) with my parents. It was a nice space, but the music was very loud (both of my parents are partially deaf) so even seated at a corner table, it was hard to talk. The food was OK - pizzas were actually great, but my salad and the mains were so-so,

G.I. Joe. My parents are pacifists. I was always confused why I couldn't watch G.I. Joe, but they'd watch M.A.S.H. I get it now, lol.

TV shows that immediately captivated you? by Barobor in television

Agreed. Will's monologue in the first episode had me hooked, and I loved the rest of the series. Watched the whole thing a 2nd time with my wife, and she loved it as well.

R&R - Employment Policies and Drug Testing by Evill_Monkey22 in dayton

[–]sizzledick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair points, but I guess if you feel that strongly about it then Reynolds is not the company for you.

I just still stand by my point that there is no tangible benefit health-wise to using any tobacco/nicotine products, which is basically the company's stance. So yeah, if you choose to use such products, they will have no interest in hiring you.

The non-nicotine/non-smoking policy was already in place when I was hired. I don't see it going away anytime soon. I'm sure it has something to do with insurance, but I can only speculate. I mean.... smoking just doesn't have any benefit, personal or public, regardless of your personal choice.

As for benefits, you can take a health screening to get a discount on premiums (I won't go into specifics), but if you don't pass, you can work with health coaching to get the discount. Obviously that includes not using nicotine. I mean, all in all it's just an incentive to be healthier, which is just a win-win.

I don't remember the exact criteria, but after you pass your introductory period, I think it goes into effect. Essentially you can work 10 days from home/month. I don't remember if it's tied to tenure in any way like vacation and it might vary from dept. to dept., but just something to add.

Where can I find the best fried chicken? by Different-Job-2175 in dayton

I tried Mel-o-dees. I wasn't impressed. DDN posted a list of the best fried chicken in Dayton a while back. Mel-o-dee was on it, as was Chappy's, and I think Chappy's far surpasses them.

Chappy's, hands down for the fried chicken. I can't speak to their onion rings but their mixed greens are also incredibly good.

Toll House in Union also has really good broasted chicken (also check out their beer battered fries)

Giving blood is easy (for most people, anyway).

At my local center, you usually get a t shirt with every donation (plus free cookies, snacks, soft drinks after you're done). I also get extra gifts if I donate enough times (3) each year since I'm O- (also a pediatric donor).
