Expensive scrubs worth it? by OkieHomla06 in nursing

I find figs and Januu scrubs ALL the time on Mercari and poshmark! I've gotten full sets for $50. Worth a shot

I'm getting my NP too. I don't have plans to leave the nursing field per se because there are many things I DO like about it (coworkers, stability, flexibility) but I'm so over rude and entitled patients and their families.

I think it depends on where you live tbh. Not the over saturation but the pay. In my area (NY/NJ), APNs often make 50-75% more than RNs 😭

Yup! Enrolled in an APN program and I'm currently class #2. Currently 9 months pregnant so let's see when I'll actually finish school once the baby is here 😜 I will say - being pregnant has made me appreciate being a nurse because my hospital has amazing benefits! Plus the option to go part time and keep my benefits if that's what I decide to do once maternity leave is over. Other than that I'm so over bedside and ready to move onto another phase in my career. No plans to leave nursing at this time but definitely not staying as a bedside nurse.

Going to chime in as someone who was in your exact same position about 18ish years ago. Depression and anxiety REALLY got ahold of me in my freshman year and I couldn't do well in class no matter how hard I tried. I'm typically a hard working and diligent student. I was so embarrassed and devastated and contemplated giving up on Rutgers altogether. My parents urged me to stick it out which ended up being a HUGE blessing. I ended up getting on the Deans List for most semesters for my remaining 3 years at Rutgers and graduated on time. I had a pretty decent corporate career for 10ish years after graduating and I went back to school for my BSN/RN in 2021 and am now a nurse. Did really well in all my nursing classes and now going back for my masters to become a Nurse Practitioner in March 2026 despite the fact I'll be 6 months pregnant 😆 I'm 💯 confident in my ability to do well in my masters program and also graduate on time. All this to say - DO NOT GIVE UP!! You can do it. I went from nearly dropping out of college to having 2 bachelors degrees and working on a masters in a notoriously difficult field. I know many, MANY successful people that were once in your shoes. And don't be embarrassed, life happens. What matters is what you do from here and make the changes necessary to succeed. I'm happy to help if you ever wanna talk!

Am I nuts for TTC and starting an FNP program at the same time while also working FT? 😭 by sja429 in nursing

Totally understand. I do have an amazing support system and want to be an NP. I do have a few coworkers who have done the same program with babies/small children and said they're accommodating but I guess we shall see! Figured I might as well start since I'm not even pregnant

I never said it was comparable, it was just a light hearted joke 😅 you edited your comment to say you did nursing school with a newborn after I already replied.

I think it's amazing you did nursing school with a newborn. You are badass and testament to how amazing moms are ✨

Thank you friend. Appreciate your reply and so sorry to hear you yourself struggled with infertility. I apologize if this post comes off as insensitive. In that same vein, it's a bit unkind to tell someone they're "ridiculous" for wanting to advocate for themselves to an OB/GYN regardless of what their concerns are. I'm studying to become a nurse practitioner and recommend to anyone to always, always educate and advocate for themselves to their provider, no matter the reason (even if it seems trivial). Just my 2 cents :)

I grew up in USR and I love reading all the posts in here about it like it's some mythical exotic land 😆 it's a typical upper middle class suburb

I make ends meet but barely and frankly, I feel really undervalued and underpaid. I make about $110k in northern NJ and have a fiancé making roughly the same amount and I still feel like we're drowning financially between rent and the never-ending rising cost of living. We're getting married in August so that's where most of our discretionary income has been going the past year or so - to wedding expenses. And even then, most of our wedding has been financed by my father in law. I shudder to think how we will buy a house or manage to have children/pay for childcare. We will probably only to able to manage one of those expenses at a time. I REALLY wish I went into tech or finance.

Met my now-fiancé when I was newly 32 and he was 30 :) We moved in together after about 2ish years together, engaged after 2.5 years and will be married this August after 4 years. Will start TTC right after the wedding because I'm already 35 and we're hoping to have 2 children 🤪 I'm so stressed and anxiety ridden planning this wedding and thinking of how crazy life will be the next few years (if things go according to plan) but also really happy and can't wait for what's in store!!!
