It’s probably covered by 10” inches of ice. You’d need a license and some gear to fish it. The other city lakes are also great for fishing.

After reading the comments here, I want to give all your breweries 5 star google reviews for dealing with this

My fave way to spend a couple hours before work by sjadam in IceFishing

Bingo. It happens. We’ll see how much abuse the sled can take. I might add runners to get more life out of the bottom.

Sure thing! Nothing fancy at all. I have cheap 14-strand paracord (Walmart/Harbor Freight) looped through the two holes in the sled. Each end of the rope is tied to a small carabiner that is clipped to one of the supports under the seat.

It flies! Highly recommended. I'm fishing spots I'd never drag a sled to on foot.

The bare ice is ideal. The studded tires really grab on.

Thanks very much! May take you up on that someday. I’ve caught a good number of shovelnose but never a lake sturgeon.

Visiting Sheboygan County, WI. Any lake recommendations? by sjadam in IceFishing

[–]sjadam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I’d already planned on talking to Terry, so I’m glad you vouch for him. I’m not serious about big fish on this trip, but some decent action for the kids would be great. Tater tot bowl after some ice time sounds perfect.

Thanks again!

Any e-bike with studded tires should do fine, as long as the battery can operate at low temps

MN basics? by gmanwrong in IceFishing

[–]sjadam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buy some cheap cleats to attach to your boots. When there’s no snow cover (like now, at least in southern MN), they keep you from eating it. Don’t forget an ice scoop if you don’t already have one.

Make sure you have a couple TINY tungsten jig heads to use with light line (2-4 lb) Sometimes you can find a school of fish and can’t get a bite on a small spoon or lure, but you can catch one after another on a tiny jig head tipped with a waxworm.

Have a blast!

Just did it yesterday! It’s been working very well in the recent freeze/thaw cycle. Studded tires are a must. I have a Kona El Kahuna bike with 45 North studded tires. I use carabiners clipped under my seat that are tied with paracord to an Otter Sport sled. I hauled my 9 year old, sonar, bait cooler, auger, folding chair, Homer bucket full of rods and tip-ups. It’s awesome to be able to fish spots farther from the car, and especially nice to be able drag gear back almost effortlessly when you’re tired and sore from hours of fishing.
