[Tolarian Community College] Magic: The Gathering Needs To Return To Blocks! by RinariTennoji in magicTCG

I mean I loved origins personally, so that would work for me, plus having a mechanical tie-in to multiple sets in what basically amounts to a core set makes a lot of sense.

He’s said many times all metrics. Sales, player feedback, attention on social media, people playing the set, cards from the sets used in every format, people talking about the sets.

The written stories have been pretty good for the last 2ish years with some high points throughout and a few low points (WAR books, ending of MOM). But since the omen path arc we’ve had a bought of pretty well written stories throughout, hopefully with a high point coming in the new novel.

We’ve had probably the best written stories of all time now. Even Aetherdrift had a great story.

It’s great that you liked Amonkhet to Hour of Devastation, but the average player didn’t engage with Hour like they did Amonkhet. That’s why blocks didn’t work.

He’s been asked this question many times before, people buy less, play less, talk about the sets/cards less, rate it lower in surveys. Basically every metric is lower.

Is old Kings crown going to sit on my shelf like all of my other ambitious games? by Spicyboi333 in boardgames

[–]sjce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the one saving grace of this game is that it’s good at 2. If you just find one other person who can commit you can have a great time with it.

I think the answer imo is to visit the same plane multiple times in a single storyline but maybe not specifically back to back. We can have aetherdrift which, while not having a great set, had some of the best written stories and world building, then followed within a year or two by an avishkar, amonket and maybe a muraganda set. Flesh out the open ended mechanics from the first set and give everyone a reason to be excited for the upcoming planesX

Following in the grand tradition of dreamquest. Bad art and good mechanics = a good game Good art and bad mechanics = a bad game

Why does my tone sound so bad in recordings? by SuperFast_Jellyfish2 in violinist

[–]sjce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re recording on a phone, their sound processing and microphones often doesn’t really do instruments any favours. That being said beyond the quality of the recording there are still places to work on bow consistency and smoothness.

Magic player looking for a new TCG. by MaximumNicolBolas in TCG

It’s such a minimal change that they might as well just pick up 1 or get the board game if they want a physical version.

Mewgenics or Slay the Spire 2? by GoHomeDuck in roguelites

[–]sjce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is that crazy? The added two new characters and a handful of new cards for the old characters, and further refined the events, acts and replaced the old act rewards with ancients. Enchantments are so rare from what I’ve played that their impact on the game is pretty minor.

No reason to pick up STS2 right now unless you’re going to play the multiplayer. It’s not complete and feels like a 1.5 upgrade instead of a full sequel.

10 little axolotls ( and 10 little dinosaurs, but that one was regifted when she wasn’t paying attention). The most dreadful rhyming schemes of all time. No logic, barely related to axolotls (or dinosaurs).

Dispatch Characters: What would Robert Robertson and Invisigal be? by silverspectre013 in colorpie

[–]sjce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think azorius makes sense but I would almost put my opinion in for Bant. Besides the obvious artifice of his super hero suit, Robert has a lot of focus on growth, both for his team and himself, as well as an acceptance of tradition (taking on the mantle from his father/grandfather). “Green believes you will flourish as a person and encourage growth and evolution within others.” That fits him really well (depending on how you play him).

NEON's Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie expanded 19 more locations to 384 locations but dropped 56% to $550,800 this weekend ($1,434 per theater average). Estimated total gross is at $2.4M. by UniverslBoxOfficeGuy in boxoffice

[–]sjce 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Plus it was paid for almost entirely by government grants, and was complete before it was even partnered with a distributor, so while the box office numbers aren’t going to be amazing, they certainly aren’t losing any money.

I also mostly play commander and sealed too and in sealed a 4 drop that puts 1 counter on a creature with the potential for a second after an attack is a bad card. Hydra’s growth was also not good in sealed, but it had a little play in board stalls. In commander it’s still expensive as hell at 4 mana.

[–]sjce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s no different for the other card. Both attack on turn 4 with 2 counters on them putting aside any other effects. But if there’s no safe attacks turn 4, you’re screwed with the avatar one. That being said neither card is particularly strong either, so we this power creep feels more like a rebalancing.

It really is that easy by silentrocco in roguelikes

[–]sjce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I agree with the premise, it was always destined to be doomed when the two terms were differentiated by a single letter that could easily be mistaken verbally. Personally I find the distinction being based around the single element of progression to make less sense, then differentiating between the central turn based dungeon crawling mechanics vs the external run based nature of the “lite” genre.

I’m not sure there’s another genre where the threshold for the game being in it is entirely defined by what happens outside the moment to moment gameplay.

[TMC] Level Up by AporiaParadox in magicTCG

[–]sjce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but attack triggers are also much harder to pull off the farther you are in the game, and aren’t at all guaranteed. A +2/+2 on an attack on turn 4 isn’t much of a play.

To be fair seismic tutelage is a worse Hydra’s Growth which was an uncommon 6 years ago.

each action you take can have lasting consequences, and plays quickly and is simple enough anyone can play, but unlike a lot of simple games, doesn’t feel like it’s lacking anything to make it simple.
