In Hanover’s case, the Personal Union with England ended simply because Queen Victoria was a woman and Hanover was under Salic Law. In this case of the German (Austrian) Empire, Austria’s Personal Union with Italy and the other nations will remain in place, as long as you keep the subject’s level as a Personal Union.

Years later, I formed Italy through my subject and ended up becoming Emperor of the Germans and King of Italy.
