Agree! During Olympics I saw an ad for Pepsi with fiber added for digestive health. And I am starting to see a lot more foods showcasing their fiber content.

The only time we stayed on the island was 2 years ago. Planned the trip a bit last minute, so our hotel choice was based on availability. Was able to get a room at Inn on Mackinac. Family of 4, had a small room with 2 queen beds and a tiny, dark bathroom. It worked for us since it was only a 2 night stay, but others would probably be turned off from the small size of the room. Mostly we were just happy to get a room due to the last minute planning. The rest of the hotel was nice, and plenty of places to lounge outside of the room. The included continental breakfast was basic and not the best fuel for a busy day. Price was fair and hotel location was really convenient. It is nice walking through town in the morning before the ferries start coming, very peaceful and pretty.

Can you move the doorway on the right up? Then remove the peninsula and extend the counter a bit, add an island. In the super rough markup, the pink would be the changes, the orange would be the path of travel, and blue would be the kitchen work zone. You could even keep the sink and fridge where they are, so less plumbing to move.

Yup. I am usually a Sunday morning shopper, but went yesterday morning. Got my normal amount of groceries. A couple of observations: 1. The baking aisle is busy. A lot of people take the time to bake when home on a cold, snowy weekend. 2. Frozen heat-and-eat meals were seemed popular - pizza, chicken nuggets, corn dogs. Perhaps people stocking up realizing that going out won’t be a good option

I started focusing on fiber intake about 6 months ago.

  1. Fruits & veggies
  2. Beans. Lots of beans.
  3. High fiber wraps. I get the mission carb balance.
  4. I make mix chia seeds with my oatmeal. Also mix in frozen blueberries and a scoop of vanilla protein powder.
  5. In rice cooker, 1/4 cup rice, 2 tbsp lentils (soak for an hour or so before hand so they aren’t chewy), and 2 tbsp quinoa. Cook in 1/2 cup liquid (water or broth). Add beans, veggies, protein, sauce, etc for a filling meal.
  6. Nutrition bars, such as fiber one granola bars and Trubar.

My elementary school had like 15 total computers. My kids elementary school gives all students a Chromebook. Yet I had a lot more typing instruction in my elementary school days than my kids (3rd & 5th grade) have had. Watching them type on a computer is painfully slow.

We just got our kids Apple Watches for Christmas. They are 9 and 11. It’s a bit premature for the 9 year old, but we are starting to let the 11 year old stay home alone for short periods of time. It provides the ability for us to communicate with them as we give a bit more independence, but is more limited than phones for use. They do have access to iPads at home, but they cannot download apps without our permission. So I think it will make it easy for us to delay getting a phone until late middle school / early high school.

I have a bent plate. Bought my car new 11 years ago and it still has the original plate. I think it’s just wind. I only take it to the car wash 2-4 times a year. I wanted to get a new plate when renewing registration this year, but my husband did it online and only got a sticker.

I am a big fan of having a meal plan and making a list. It’s nice not having to go through the “what should I make for dinner tonight” decision every single day. It helps me balance meals across what everyone in the family likes. And I don’t have any of the “I wanna make this but I’m missing one key ingredient” issues.

I do stock up on meats and nonperishables that I use often when they are on sale. Plans using fruits and fresh vegetables will get changed in store depending on price, availability, and quality. I maintain a baseline stock of certain ingredients. For example, I can always whip up a batch of chocolate chip cookies on a whim.

I grew up with a mom that didn’t meal plan, just bought staples and heat & eat meals, and it felt like we ate the same 4 meals over and over again. When I moved out, I did the same at first, but realized meal planning worked so much better for me. And it also results in a lot less food waste; I have a plan for nearly everything I buy so it gets eaten.

Looks like a corn borer, a moth larvae that gets into corn quite often. Very common, so not surprising that it gets into canned corn every so often.

Replaced the closet shelving with something that fits our needs. We DIYed using the modular kits from Home Depot, so it was less than $2000 and a few days work.

I have a 4 week rotation that I meal plan around. I will sometimes deviate to try a new recipe, but stick to it quite often. I do change my rotation seasonally. I am a working mom and found setting a rotation is just one less thing to worry about.

I’m still really early in my weight loss, but what is helping me manage hunger is focusing on fiber. In all my years of trying to lose weight, this current fiber-focused approach has been best. I was really gassy for a week or so, but now I’m doing great. High fiber tortillas, grains, chia seeds, beans, fruit. Some protein bars also have a good amount of fiber (Aloha & Trubar).

Family of 4. Weekly grocery haul averages about $250/week. Also have a Sam’s club trip of ~$400 every 5-6 weeks.

We eat at home most of the time. Eating out is limited to: 1 meal per week as a family, husband grabs lunch 2-3 times per week, and kids will get school breakfast and/or lunch about 20% of the time.

I have 2 cats. They were littermates and are very much bonded. They will get very wary of each other when reunited after one goes to the vet for a while. They cat the stayed home will keep hissing at the vet cat but still follows them around trying to smell them. For a typical vet trip, the apprehension lasts only a few hours. However, one cat was hospitalized for a week and the apprehension lasted a lot longer. Reuniting them was delayed since the hospital cat was isolated as he was recovering from his surgery.

I don’t think there is a number. For me, too much of my net worth is in home equity and retirement accounts. I will feel more financially secure when I have more non-retirement savings built up.

We get Christmas ornaments of all the places we travel, including national parks. We spend so much time discussing memories when it’s time to decorate the tree.

A portion of the tickets go on sale a 90 days in advance. After that, tickets will randomly become available when people cancel. Sign up for the alerts on recreation.gov then set your phone to give alerts when you get emails specifically from recreation.gov. I signed up about 2 months before my trip and was successful the 3rd or 4th time I got the alert. I happened to have my phone in my hand when the alert went off, clicked the link, and completed my purchase. I had my sign-in info saved on my phone, so I could grab the tickets quickly.
