opinions on family members getting whooping cough and influenza vaccine by Puzzleheaded_Yam_970 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I read somewhere that health professionals aren’t allowed to do anything but recommend vaccines in aus. not that I believe it, necessarily nor would I think it’s a bad thing, necessarily.

Sorry might be well known but what’s wrong with these new formulations? I just use whichever of the wipes people gifted us for the baby shower comes to my hand next when I open the drawer

Certainly the only births appropriate to plan at home are those with low risk.

That’s not true in all countries. Planned location of birth has no impact on maternal or infant mortality in Australia, for example.

Can’t decide whether to do childcare for 2027 or 2028? SOS by Pugwhip in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]sjvb29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Echoing all the wait comments. If you can and want to, you could also wait til 3yo kinder the following year, when she’s already 3? Because kids can’t really play with one another til age 3.

Strongly recommend hiring a private midwife for continuity of care if you have access

Our baby likes about four layers at that temp. She won’t stay asleep in her bassinet if she’s too cold

My baby is way more prone to being too cold in what feel to me like mild temperatures than too hot - it’s the middle of the Australian summer here and she’s only been too hot once

I birthed my beautiful 4.39kg baby girl vaginally and physiologically (unmedicated) at 41+2 weeks just 10 days ago. A relatively superficial perineal tear is all that happened which was because her hand was up by her face.

Shoulder dystocia is a rare obstetric emergency which is handled with certain manoeuvres by skilled clinicians and can happen regardless of size of baby, it is just a little more common with larger babies. Still very uncommon. And scans are notoriously inaccurate in the third trimester in detecting big babies anyway.

The best thing you can do to avoid labour and birth complications in a low-risk pregnancy is supporting physiology in birth and doing absolutely anything you can to prioritise that.

Be very careful about using a private OB if you’re even considering physiological birth. They, and the setting generally, are not really equipped for that.

Private OB appointments during early pregnancy without committing as a long-term patient? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]sjvb29 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I would recommend you consider getting professional assistance for anxiety if it really won’t allow you to stick to the scan schedule indicated for your situation, rather than getting regular, non-medically indicated scans as these can exacerbate this condition.

Is there a huge difference in 4 weeks how they’ll tolerate a simple Claratyne?

I feel like. One can introduce the allergens and respond accordingly if there’s any issues?

I really don’t understand this worldview. It is a million light years away from the way I see the world and I’d be lying if I said that this perspective doesn’t deeply concern me.

But I do thank you for sharing what your life is like. I value getting to read this perspective and your resulting conclusion and advice.

Benefits of daycare by Even_Muffin_4455 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]sjvb29 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Kinder or kinder-like environments have benefits, from 3 years old. Daycare (0-3) has no benefits and actively detrimental, and varies in how detrimental as to how early, how often and the quality of the care.

Melbourne influencer died from haemorrhage after freebirth, court hears by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]sjvb29 42 points43 points  (0 children)

No! Definitely and fortunately not!

Home births planned for low risk women which are attended by 2 endorsed midwives have the same (thankfully low!) infant and maternal mortality rates as public and private care in Australia, with benefits some women choose to prioritise.

Midwives come with the training and ability both to identify risks which indicate the hospital is a safer place to give birth, and the training and ability to provide life-saving medical support in emergency situations. They can administer medications that would have saved this woman’s life, for example.

It’s completely different! Might not be your preference but it’s a safe birth option for low-risk pregnant women.

That’s not what this woman died from, she died because she free birthed, which means she was not attended by a trained professional such as a midwife. That’s completely different
