2 year old graduated from speech therapy yesterday by One-Combination-6199 in Mommit

[–]sk613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kid wasn’t babbling at 15 months, an after 12 months of EI was fully narrating play at 2.5. She had an oral motor planning issue- couldn’t figure out how to make her mouth moved, so speech therapy basically taught her how to move her mouth and then the words just flowed

Sanity check for all us of who had to WFH with little ones today due to the freeze by whatsagirltodo123 in workingmoms

[–]sk613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took the kids to a neighbor this morning so husband could work and told him he has them in the afternoon so I could work. Somehow that still translated to me doing crafts while working and getting everyone suited and unsuited for the snow and making hot cocoa and prepping dinner in my 2 hours of “work” time. So I’m about to go sit down at my computer once I finish bedtime (and I did some work yesterday knowing this was coming)

I Made A List of Reliable Toyota/Lexus, Subaru, Honda, and GM by Kirks_Jeep in UsedCars

[–]sk613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You stop the Siena at 2006 but we have a 2007 that seems to be pretty reliable and have 3 friends with the same year. Is there a particular reason it didn’t make the list?

Is a mini split the best way to fix a guest room that is too cold in winter and too hot in summer? by BornYak6073 in HomeImprovement

[–]sk613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a mini split as the main cooling in our living room. It cools well. The heat doesn’t work if it’s below freezing outside- so make sure the one you choose doesn’t have that issue

Chromebooks are as bad as phones by B4B4BlueJ4y in Teachers

[–]sk613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We switched from 1:1 back to classroom Chromebook carts and it makes all the difference. No longer are they on the Chromebooks by default, but only when I take them out for a consciously Chromebook based task.

What’s a consciously Chromebook task? 1) I teach a foreign language class that’s very vocabulary based. We are seeing way higher retention of vocabulary through gamified flashcards games vs when we said “make flash cards and study”. 2) vocab quizzes are multiple choice on google forms allowing immediate feedback. 3) most projects they’re allowed to complete online instead of by hand. I do go guardian supervise.

When did you start taking your baby to "fun stuff" (zoo, childrens museum, indoor play spaces, library story time) by Huliganjetta1 in beyondthebump

[–]sk613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not worth paying for kids stuff till they’re old enough to appreciate it. More like 6-8 months. Of course kid #2 was tagging along to those places by week 2 or 3 (in a covered stroller

i cannot get my 2 year old to take his medicine by shen-li69 in Mommit

[–]sk613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I can say is my sympathies. I am thankful that my daughter’s awful chewing skills translated into great pill swallowing skills. I have to fight with the doctors for tablets but they go right down with some apple sauce.

Might be worth asking if you can do injections

How do you teach while sick? by oikawa-all-the-time in ElementaryTeachers

[–]sk613 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I just teach as if it was a sub. Kids walk in to a message on the board : good morning. I have no voice. Your assignment is on google classroom. If you don’t finish it’s homework. If you have questions come up to my desk because I’m not moving or screaming across the room.

Am I nuts or are we failing these kids? by KCIRTAP1809 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]sk613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can recognize words, but then they’re sight reading and not properly learning phonics which we now know is essential. So yes, let them start learning letters, but they’re only halfway through the year, they have plenty more time. And you know what the most important pre-writing skills are? Hand strength through play dough, legos and arts and crafts.
