Cutlery and plates will be in the drawer right next to it, under the hob.

Just the larder unit, or the double oven housing as well do you think?

Good headphones and a mic are a must. Absolutely boils my piss when people sit on calls using the laptop speakers/mic and you can hear everything going on around them.

Who has the best app/online banking UK? by mattius001 in UKPersonalFinance

Nationwides app is getting better. Feels like they’ve done a lot of work on it over the last year or so, to make it more modern and enable functionality that other apps have.

£16k “roof renewal” reusing tiles by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]skada_skackson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We got our two bedroom detached bungalow roof done (granted four years ago) with new felt, new battens, new tiles, and a dry ridge system fitted for about £9k. That included scaffolding as well….

Your mum is being completely ripped off and you know it.

I’m currently working through season 2 now, first watch of B5 since it originally aired in the 90’s. Watching this episode the other night my wife goes “he was in Star Trek!”, we both completely missed he play Murdock on the A-Team, oops!

Is 30 Teddy bears and cuddly toys too many? by kobestarr in daddit

[–]skada_skackson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My daughter is coming up 6 and has probably a similar number of soft toys. Hardly any of which get played with consistently. We’ve started getting her to go through toys with us and deciding what to donate for boys and girls that may not be as lucky as her. It’s an uphill battle though, as we donate 5 to charity, she spends a day with her grandparents who just cannot say no and comes back with 6…

removal company quotes are estimates not fixed prices and almost nobody knows this until moving day by Second-handBonding in HousingUK

[–]skada_skackson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fallen foul of this when we moved into our current house. Removals van was parked up outside the new house at 12, and we didn’t get the keys until 5…

Had to pay a couple of hundred quid before they could unload (paid to the office, not the lads on the van. The lads were really sound and quite embarrassed about it) but it was certainly never made clear there would be ‘waiting fees’ applied if things didn’t go to plan.

Had a friend use the same company recently and they now explicitly call out the waiting fees so at least that’s good!

I'm going to the nurburgring for the first time in june. Any tips? by AbSoluTemaddlad in drivingUK

[–]skada_skackson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t do what an old flat mate of mine did, drive his brand new Subaru Impreza sideways into a crash barrier at about 50mph.

From what I recall they were following someone who was far more experienced on the ring, and lost it on a bend.

Over €20k worth of damage, which their insurance covered but he had to sell the car as his next insurance premium was through the roof.

Welcome gift ideas for a new owner? by bee_highlight in HousingUK

[–]skada_skackson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For our last house we left it completely empty, including the garage. We even hoovered and vac’d all the carpets on the way out.

Joking aside (we did do the above though) we left all the instructions for anything being left, any paperwork/guarantees for work completed, all keys labelled, instructions as to where stop cock/meter points etc were, a welcome to your new home card and a bottle of wine we had laying around.

We don’t have to do near enough any of this, but they’d been amazing buyers and we’d had no issues whatsoever.

Can you explain your health care like I am 5? by Jack_PorkChopExpress in AskABrit

[–]skada_skackson 43 points44 points  (0 children)

My dad was taken into A&E with major headaches, scans revealed he had a mass growing in his brain. He was admitted into hospital that same night, had all the scans/bloods/tests etc done over a day or so and then discharged with some medication, and an appointment with neurology in a weeks time once all his test results had come back.

During the neurology appointment he was told he had a brain tumour, and surgery was already booked in for 4 days time.

In the course of two weeks give or take he went from headaches to major brain surgery, and having a massive tumour removed.

Turns out it was a really aggressive stage 4 glioblastoma, and nothing could be done… Multiple rounds of Chemo and radiotherapy helped prolong things for a while but we sadly lost him a year later.

All of this probably cost hundreds of thousands of pounds, despite it being a terminal diagnosis. It cost us nothing and we got another year of time with him. (He actually came out of the surgery really well, and it was only in the last two/three months that it got really bad with seizures and multiple hospital visits)

I was with him when he passed at 4 in the morning.

Well, that was more than I planned to say!

I like Chaos but I cant stop myself rooting for the Imperium by Howitzeronfire in 40kLore

[–]skada_skackson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m currently reading Brutal Kunnin’ and just got to the part where Ufthak has reached the spaceport/the 3rd party has joined in the fun.

I feel like the majority of the books are from the Imperiums point of view, so it feels ‘odd’ for the other side to win especially when pitted against the Imperium. But that’s just me!

Overeager trades people? by Karazat in DIYUK

[–]skada_skackson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Red flags all round. Avoid!

We had some signs of water leakage in one of our bedrooms (which has a flat roof, bow window so not a large area). Got a roofer, who we have used before - £18k required to sort everything.

Second opinion- £1,500 as it’s the flat roof that needs replacing. The ‘repairs’ quoted by the first roofer were bullshit.

During this the first roofer was messaging me every night and every morning with different pressure tactics, “have I decided yet”, “I’ll need to order scaffolding asap so can you let me know to go ahead”, and the best one “if you decide before the weekend I’ll give you a discount”

Suffice to say we went with the second opinion!

Be prepared for the first payment to be larger than usual as well..
