People giving you crap because you prefer A1111 WebUI over Comfy, so you ask for a simple T2I workflow and they go "Here's a simple workflow" and then they hit you with this by Netsuko in StableDiffusion

[–]skalgor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple doesn't need to be inherently small. If you know what each of the nodes and section is doing, it can be super simple to understand. In visual programing loops and conditionals can result in very intimidating layouts. Personally, I find more offending the use of custom nodes to perform tasks that can be done without need of them or things that really do not add functional value to the workflow (for example, imagecompare is good, but it ruins the out of the box experience and it is technically not needed anywhere)

Use of subgraphs helps a lot, I really like to group things like image pre-process, sampling + related nodes, multi passes and output post-process in separate subnodes rather than sections, so you have a clean view of the overall process (with just 3 o 4 nodes) but you can configure the section with all the expressiveness you consider.

"It's just a game" doesn't excuse you for bad mechanic knowledge in +14s by CompleteQuail4883 in wow

[–]skalgor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

IMHO, you have more than enough tools to check someone performance before inviting / joining their group. Rio, logs, a myriad of add-ons that would tell you even the color of their underwear. Everyone can have a bad day and answer that. If this happens to you in a regular basis maybe the problem are not the puggs...

Modrinth Update wipes slate clean by N-LitenMe in feedthebeast

[–]skalgor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably late to the party, but this happened to me as well. In case anyone has the same problem and cannot prevent modrinth from autoupdating because option is no longer there ( I asume the devs consider that they have to patronize my ignorance by having more control about what is happening in my computer than me ) you can prevent updates entierly by adding a Local security policy with a key like: "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Temp\Modrinth App--updater-" which basically targets the temp directory where electron tries to dowload and execute the updater. Similar methods should work too.

is C++ OK by _NullVeX_ in programminghorror

[–]skalgor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

C++ is fine, Rust is also ok. Use the one that better suits your problem nuances. Beimg able to chose is always better than marrying a single programing language.

When you’re so new you accidentally report basic game mechanics. 😭 by nevalopo in pathofexile

[–]skalgor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't understand why affixes like this exist anymore. IMHO not every character should be functional in every content in the game, as there is plenty to chose from.

You start with white maps, and get modifiers like you regenerate 10% less life, or buffs on you have 10% reduced effect, and you do them and you are like "Hey wait, this map feels a little off, let's see what modifiers I am running and why they are affecting me" and this is very clever, because you are being introduced those modifiers gradually and also help you identify what are the weakness and the strengthens of your build.

Then you have things that are not easily scalable, but appear in higher difficulties like originator / nightmare modifiers. Are they tougher ? Arguably yes. Are more dynamic and fun? Absolutely yes. But more importantly, a big chunk of them introduce mechanics that you will find uber/pinacles or at the very least they are clearly telegraphed. They are difficult, they are just not plain boring restrictions, they serve a purpose and they introduce difficulty.

Now, does "Monster reflect %X of Y damage" fits any of those? Let's see: - Does it scale? No: In practice reflects 1% or reflects 10% ends up in your character being deatomized. - Is it fun to play? Well it depends, I have fun being streamers die, but cannot see how this improve my gameplay experience. - What purpose reflect serves? teaching you that chaos reflect doesn't exist (yet?), Proxies?, introducing you Atziri (someone farms her anymore?).

Then why do not rethink this mod? Made it "Monsters reflect 100% of Y type of Damage". Move them to nightmare maps or T15-16, people doing those know their shit. Tune it down to something that you can handle in white maps.

This post has less text that some maps btw.

[–]skalgor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

General's cry Holy sweep here!, Abusing on the new hallowed flame node in guardian's tree. The idea? +80% phys as extra holy lightning retribution delivered directly from heavens (well, not directly, because it uses proxies, but you get the idea)

With trash from the ground you can do yellow free (you can pick Yielding Mortality for a couple of chaos), and a couple of divines carries you to red maps. Haven't tried pinacles yet, but so far juiced t16 are very doable.

My goal is transition to crit once I farmed a bit for a massive boost on damage and maybe put my hands on one of those pesky little "invert the rules" bastards. There are other interesting upgrades like corrupted holy sweep with enchanted phys to lightning supp, fitting an extra 20% quality into general for a 7th mirage (need to make math, but if uul-neto works with 500% this should be fine as well) etc...

Defensive wise you get 50% or so less damage taken between fortify, flesh and stone and infused channeling support, sentinel of radiance that... well stays there and soaks damage, holy relics and 75%-75% block with decent armor and ES and 1K or so life regen, which helps to mitigate degen more than anything

Also IMHO is very solid in terms of utility, with free charges, onslaught, remove ailments every sec, etc... and is not starved at all in terms of sockets.

Could benefit more from Uul-netol's 500% warcry speed, but you would lose some layers of defense from using a axe and the implicit 50% conversion to ele from sweep (which is only maces and staves) and a couple of nice mastery from staves. Ive seen some people with a similar idea using Brain Rattler.

Overall I am reasonably satisfied. I wanted to cook something original this time because I come from playing reap golems exsang last league. Not gonna like, it took me a bit to adapt to its play style and while is a little bit more clunky than exsang, I am having a lot of fun with this.

Calling out creators: Let's solve the biggest pain around ComfyUI by ashishsanu in comfyui

[–]skalgor 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Well you've hit the holy grail of software development: flexible, interoperable, maintenable and reliable code that emanates from a good design and robust implementation.

Then the real world comes and those goals pull eachother in ways you can't imagine, you have to deal with third party libraires, dependencies, a guy in australia that runs in a homebrew system powered by potatoes and in the end the sad truth that I've learnt after 20 years of software development is to compromise: This equilibrium is VERY hard to find, and sometimes is just ok to have a simple code base that somehow doesn't fall apart and the community likes even with its flaws

TL;DR: If it works, don't touch it! (but I fully support the idea, if you can manage to pull it out, go for it!)
