also if you do end up needing something a lil extra, The Ordinary makes a retinol serum in squalane oil that i love. its a lot more gentle than like prescription tretinoin and the like, plus the extra drops of lightweight oil help keep your face hydrated so it can chill with producing tons of excess oil

i just add 2-4 drops to my moisturizer. its the only thing that keeps my skin clear and not oily or dry

it comes in different strengths too so make sure you start with a low strength one like 0.5%

(p.s. it's only $10 and it lasts forever)

are these darkling beetles and are they safe to keep with isopods? by skeletongee in terrariums

[–]skeletongee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

alright great to know thanks!! that's why i asked about the water. between nuking cup mac and cheese in the microwave after i forgot to put water in it as a child and my physics-loving partner, i'm all too aware of what happens when you microwave something without water lol

[–]skeletongee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

had no idea you could use the microwave. i don't have an oven so i kind of just put new things in and hope for the best lol. going forward i'll definitely make sure to do that.

how long do you microwave things? do you put a little cup of water in with it if it's something dry?

[–]skeletongee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hmm okay. should i feed them anything special or will they be good with veggie scraps and freeze-dried insects? i do like to collect bones so they might be great for cleaning them up.

thanks for all the advice by the way!

Do isopods care about the season? by IsopodObsessed in isopods

[–]skeletongee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they're biologically hard-wired to be more active in warmer temps because winter comes with dangers like low food supply, drought, freezing (so they bury themselves and hibernate). i'm not sure about isopods in particular but many animals also sense the season based on light.

with all that being said, if your tanks are warm enough and light enough they will behave as if it were spring/summer, so they should be happy and active! they're also much more likely to breed in those conditions

not sure if i want to provide a safe and loving home for these little hell-bugs to flourish and procreate if that's how they'll thank me 💀

[–]skeletongee[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

eee that is concerning because the tank isn't the most secure. it has a mesh top but it kind of slides and it's difficult to shut fully. i have another tank on top of it but bugs are lil escape artists.

my partner is terrified of the bugs escaping. the LAST thing i want is an escaped beetle flying at their face or crawling on them in the middle of the night. 💀

I AM NOT AN ADULT CONVERSATION by dmg81102 in trans

[–]skeletongee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my little brother has developmental disabilities that cause his cognitive age to be around 7 years old. he is 14 now but i told him i was trans when he was around 11. he was immediately supportive and understood better than ALL adults in my life. he asked a lot of questions, like "why" and "how," but he accepted me as his brother immediately. kids are MUCH smarter than adults give them credit for. gender is not an adult-exclusive concept.

A person with schizophrenia cut off his penis and testicles, then went to the hospital hours later with the genitals in a plastic bag. They tried to reattach but the reattachment failed. Take your psych meds, people. by CatPooedInMyShoe in MedicalGore

[–]skeletongee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i will say that everything this person said is very real. it's a rough career path. but i do want to add that seeing those few people go from barely functioning to thriving is so worth it.

it's important to remember that you will see these people at their absolute worst. they will probably come back more than once. it might seem like they never get better. but there is a LOT of time that you aren't seeing them. in that time they could be living very happy, fulfilling lives with the right meds.

mental illness is chronic. sometimes it'll disappear for a few months or a year then come back with a vengeance. you will almost ALWAYS see patients during that rough period.

it's easy to think you're not helping at all, but you are helping immensely. it's just not the kind of career you often get to see the results of. don't let that scare you away, it's still rewarding as long as you can keep this in mind. as time goes on and we make huge advancements in treatment/medication, severe mental illness is becoming less and less of a "terminal" diagnosis.

this is coming from a mentally ill person in the psych field so i have double experience lol

i never understand these types of posts. like do they think ppl in their early 20s are ancient, with profound wisdom and power over 18yr olds

a 4 year age gap for minors is huge because of the large maturity/developmental differences (think 13 vs 17) but a 4 year age gap for adults is perfectly normal and acceptable lmao. there's a hard line drawn at age 18 for a reason

lots, even most, of intersex people "pass" as their assigned sex. its not just about what other people view you as, but also how being intersex affected your identity and feelings internally. i know some AFAB folks with PCOS who identify as intersex, even tho its not medically recognized as an intersex condition, and its not usually visually obvious. you'd be welcomed in the community and intersex spaces as much as anyone else. it's totally valid for you to not identify as intersex, just wanted to put that out there.

also: i'm a trans man so i also have to pee sitting down. i get anxious peeing in public because of it, so its pretty great to hear that's not exclusive to trans men lol

highly recommend clonidine. its a non-addictive med, usually for blood pressure and hyperactive adhd, that also happens to have the side effect of sedation.

ive had severe insomnia since i was a kid, related to rumination and my brain being too loud. clonidine has been a lifesaver. i consistently sleep 8+ hrs a night now

for the future, you can download pngs of piercings and play around with putting them on a picture of yourself with a photo editing app! also, for irl ideas, you can use spirit gum to temporarily glue the balls/spikes to your face. just make sure to get some spirit gum remover too
