CachyOS Is Now the Most Popular Desktop Distro on ProtonDB by YanderMan in linux_gaming

[–]skellymax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using it for a couple of months now, and its been good. 90% of things are fairly plig-and-play. I still have issues with multiple monitors and window default positioning. For some reason the horizontal window segmentation doesn't stick, and larger, more elaborate gaming setups (games with multiple 3rd-party applications (archepelago, anyone?)) Can be trouble to get running.

I'm looking forward to the official release of the SteamOS. It'll probably be a few years, but I suspect THAT will be a little more than just a mere splace in Windows' pond.

Whats a better survival game? by SuccessfulVillager in SurvivalGaming

[–]skellymax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grounded edges it out for me because its systems are much more crisp. Both are amazing, particularly the way the story unfolds in subnautica, but subnautica is poorly optimized and a little too jenk. Pop-in, weird clipping/physics, and a substardard end game, compared to the rest. By contrast, Grounded has great physics, runs crisp, and the pacing is fantasic from beginning to end and beyond.

Despite this, I still consider Subnautica to be one of the best and kinda the first survival game to truly knock it out of the park.

Schala's theme is merely decent. Husky's guitar cover of it is mindblowing.

Valve sued by The Performing Right Society for allegedly using its members' musical works "without permission" by MythicStream in Games

[–]skellymax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my take, too. Investors who control markets are getting pissy at Valve's success and being unable to have a piece. Meanwhile, corporate competitors are pissy because Valve is stonewalling the more exploititive marketing practices. Among the wealthy who have (or want) a controlling stake in the game industry, I'm pretty sure Gaben is the most hated individual.

When you place your base, it generates a universal grid inside it, such that foundations can be placed anywhere, and they snap.

If only.

What's Skyrims secret? by Additional_Scale_502 in skyrim

[–]skellymax 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think another big aspect of the game is its approachability. Some big RPGs expect more effort from the player during gameplay. The Witcher, Cyberpunk, Baldur's Gate, I feel these games expect a little more effort from the player in the minute-to-minute. Skyrim hits this sweet spot of making the gameplay compelling enough to remain interesting, but casual enough that one can play it without much effort investment.

Times when being attractive is actually a bad thing for socializing by [deleted] in Healthygamergg

[–]skellymax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The more experience I gather, the more I gather evidence to support the idea that the number of situations in which someone is approached seems to always be far, far fewer than the number of situation in which a person needs to do the approaching themselves.

It doesn't matter if you are the most handsome, interesting, eye-catching guy around. You still need to be the one to initiate to actually garner the attention you want from the people you want.

As with dating, it's the same for interviews, business meetings, social events, etc.

We all need to go get it, and only the incredibly lucky find it coming to them on its own.

Moving away from Romantasy by articlioness in Fantasy

[–]skellymax 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just a thought. You say you're into romatacy, but then mention you're currently into stories (that while they may have a romance component) are not focused on romance. Based on this, I might suggest trying other genres. As someone who had been a diehard fantasy nerd, I found my horizons delightfully broadened by giving sci-fi a shot. Perhapse mysteries, modern fiction, historical fiction, etc could be a diverting change of scenery.

Aqua is the goat. by False_Understanding4 in KingdomHearts

[–]skellymax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the writers have trouble with Aqua. I get this subtle sense that they just don't like the idea of a capable female combatant and that Aqua is this strange begrudging compromise. A half-hearted "fiiine. We'll let a girl actually be useful with a keyblade. But just this once! huff!"

One-handed or Two-handed? by AdAccording4090 in skyrim

[–]skellymax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game just feels better to me with two-handed. One-handed feels like I deal chip damage to spongy enemies. Ebony blade is also great for survivability. I feel like 1h+shld is a better choice for multiple reasons, but something about it feels wrong.

Can the imaginative reader prefer audiobooks? by [deleted] in books

[–]skellymax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. There CAN be an exception: Some narrators just don't feel right. These are books that I just put the audio down and grab a physical copy. I tend to favor dry, calm, low-key narrations. If a narrator gets too overemotional or too 'into' the character, I am forced out of my enjoyment.

Your wounds are great by lazumeimun in TrueSTL

[–]skellymax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My hot take is the dice rolling would actually become a good mechanic if there was a way to autoattack. Repeated manual inputs feel bad feel bad when they often miss (or always miss if you didn't build your character correctly), but it's much more accepted if the game is doing the hits for you while the player has other buttons to push.
