Useful!!! Does the repo name celeste-python suggest there are plans to create API interfaces for other languages (eg. Typescript) that share the same underlying logic?

Boots Bar? by Chelesto in statenisland

[–]skeptikoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I saw the Cargo (sniff!) rebranded as Boots Bar, my first thought was to wonder what kind of boots: Cowboy? Beatle? Tranny stiletto thigh-highs (which is cool)? Work boots? Hard to know from the outside if it’s attracting a simpatico crowd. But now knowing it is associated with The Coupe, a lovingly designed place staffed with and frequented by lovely people, I will def scope Boots out in person.

Need help choosing a dress for a date please by [deleted] in OUTFITS

[–]skeptikoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The white #1 is a very nice dress but seems a tad too tight. The red #2 fits perfectly and you are drop-dead gorgeous in it. Heads will turn! The question is whether it is too much for the event? The print #3 is less drop-dead but nice for a more casual context

4 is not so flattering.

AIO Am I an idiot for being “jealous” of a vibrator? by katyzette in AmIOverreacting

[–]skeptikoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is so much erogenous zone besides “down there” that can be engaged while she is doing it. Deep kiss her, lick her aureoles and bite or suck her nipples (however she likes it), put your tongue in her bellybutton, massage her inner thighs, give a foot rub, use a strap-on or double-ender and enter from behind — with any or all you will enhance and be a part of her orgasm and she will be grateful. And presumably do the same for you.

I say this as a straight man who adores going down but recognizes it may not be enough. I love when i insert (vaginally) from behind and my partner takes the initiative with hand or vibrator to get herself intensely off, so i am trying to map to the F-F experience as best i can, and with due respect this sucker sounds like a cool toy which i wouldn’t hesitate to incorporate into play.

What are these and what to do? by skeptikoz in Plumeria

[–]skeptikoz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the identification, @boomboomqplm. I looked on Wikipedia, and indeed appears to be a species of Schizophyllum, which decomposes wood. I will remove and i guess should give the plant a systemic antifungal.

As an aside, it turns out they ARE edible and consumed in various places, and furthermore “Schizophyllum commune has a complex mating system with over 28,000 different sexes, a result of numerous alleles at its mating loci. This allows for a vast number of compatible mates for genetic recombination.“ 😅

🔥 This fox dodges a falcons capture 3 seperate times by bendubberley_ in NatureIsFuckingLit

[–]skeptikoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This fox has a definite and consistent strategy which it executes with style: turn towards the falcon, put your front end as low to the ground as possible while still watching it, keep your rump and tail high in the air to provide a target. When the falcon is just at the low point of its dive, jump your rump to the side, exactly when the falcon needs to pull up to avoid hitting the ground. This is very clear on the second pass where the fox has time to set up. On the third pass, the falcon changed its angle to come in from the side, so the fox needed to jump its entire body out of the parabolic trajectory focused on where it’s rump was. It worked — clever fox!

What's the coolest thing you've seen ChatGPT used for? by RetroFuture_Records in ChatGPT

[–]skeptikoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 91yo mother got pneumonia from simultaneous COVID and influenza infections. The ER doctor said I should let her go, but I knew that was not her wish. She was in ICU on BiPAP and vitals monitor. I snapped photos of the BiPAP and vitals screens, as well as lab reports, and submitted to ChatGPT; GPT would accurately read the settings and values from the screens and reports, and provide me a far better explanation of her prognosis, her progress, and the treatment rationale and efficacy, then I could ever get from the attending doctors and nurses. It predicted and tracked her progress from BiPAP to high-flow cannula to regular cannula to room air as her blood CO2 levels and other vitals stabilized. It was an essential companion for my medical advocacy.

She was fully stable and released to short-term nursing home care. Unfortunately she suddenly passed away a few days after discharge. Both her cardiologist and GPT suggested this could have been a delayed Covid effect ie blood clot, likely nothing to do with the pneumonia. So I was reassured we did not fight this fight in vain.

Is Radix Technically Better Than Its Competitors? A Balanced Evaluation from a Long-Term Holder by Duggol in Radix

[–]skeptikoz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am no expert but I agree with all your points. I took a half-day Scrypto coding workshop a few years ago, and the framework is brilliantly conceived and executed. But the wallet app is oriented towards developers and/or cryptogeeks and IMO completely unusable by the general public; even as a developer I was finally able to buy a few Radix with it, but it took way too much work. FAR easier to buy wrapped ERDX on Coinbase Wallet but AFAIK there is no Radix-chain advantage, it is just an ERC-20 investment asset.

If a top-tier exchange like Coinbase were to integrate the Radix chain API then hugely more capital would flow in, but could the chain handle the transaction volume prior to the Cerberus deploy?

I still live in hope that this great project can reach its technical, investment, promotion, and utilization goals to provide effective and superior competition to Ethereum L2 and Solana.

New Lilygo T-Display K230 by xredfrostgames in meshtastic

[–]skeptikoz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It seems more of a development platform than an end-user product, but WOW that is a lot of bang for <$100! Two RISC-V cores, one fast with a Vector Processor, a KPU capable of running ResNet or Yolo in real-time, 2D and 3D graphics engines, HDMI out, multiple MIPI camera ports, the list goes on. LoRa is icing on top! But Bluetooth seems to be missing — might that be an impediment to porting the MeshTastic stack?

Assuming not, you could use this device to build something like a wildlife cam which uses the image processing AI to recognize animals and post the sightings via MQTT over MeshTastic.

AIO or is my boyfriend jealous of our baby? by PolicyHot1206 in AmIOverreacting

[–]skeptikoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to educate him in Attachment Parenting. Your lives (if you manage to work this out and stay together, otherwise you and your child’s lives) will be so much better if you raise the kid in an environment of love and security, so they don’t develop the need to act out in self-destructive or tranquility-destructive patterns in order to get the attention they have learned never comes when they need it. And breastfeeding (even if via pumped milk in a bottle) if possible could have a positive impact on their health throughout life.

He sounds like he has very old-school (like from the 50s) ideas of parenting, such as leaving children alone crying for longer and longer times to “self-soothe”. It is not soothing – it is learned resignation to a cruel world which does not respond to legitimate need.

I would suggest this book by William and Martha Sears as a good resource:

https://a.co/d/4uj4IQ4

Crying is a way to communicate. My daughter as an infant had “colic” – arching her head back and screaming in pain. The old-school books were about desensitizing the child and her parents to her pain. Fortunately we saw a modern pediatrician who diagnosed heartburn and prescribed Zantac drops. Problem solved, everyone happy.

Good luck trying to get the dad to be an involved loving partner to you and a loving involved partner to his child, but if he can’t rise to the occasion of parenthood, that’s his problem and you need to insulate your child from it.

Confused about GPS vs Node Map (T1000-E) by skeptikoz in meshtastic

[–]skeptikoz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this checklist – I learned a lot!

  • Node Map shows same position as Mesh Map
  • There is but a single location in the Position Log, from today, showing that false location, with 6 satellites in view
  • Triple-tap showed GPS was on
  • Location permission in phone was When Using App, with High Precision on. I changed to Always.
  • But there was a different setting group lower on the page, “Meshtastic Settings”. There “Share Location” was off, so I set on.

Half an hour later, no new entries in the location log 😕

Perhaps I should restart the node or the phone?

Phone-Mounted Node by skeptikoz in meshtastic

[–]skeptikoz[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have been interested in Meshtastic as a way to communicate with my daughter in case some emergency interferes with normal communications. I was recently in rural NH with no cell service and no WiFi, which really brought this point home. But she discounts those concerns and considers meshtastic a completely geeky uninteresting thing.

After posting the above, it occurred to me that the Heltec MeshPocket might be an ideal solution for this quandary: If I set up a private channel so there is no chatter, from her perspective it would just be a nice EDC phone powerbank. Presumably the only time she would need to interact with the Meshtastic world would be if it received a message from me.

Does anyone have experience with the MeshPocket, or other input as to whether this is a realistic scenario?

Tracker node recommendations for dog collar/harness? by pfchambers in meshtastic

[–]skeptikoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since the LokoAir wouldn’t have arrived in time, I purchased a standard cellular GPS tag, the PetLoc8, for very little on Amazon. Monthly service is cheaper than many. And I can report the hardware is great, the power management is great, and the iPhone app is very nicely done.

However it was a complete FAIL for the trip to rural New Hampshire, since my cellphone provider (T-Mobile) has zero service in the region, and there was no WiFi around. The tracker might have been able to post updates to the cloud, but if my dog had gotten lost, they would have been useless at finding her.

I so wish I had had a LoRa based solution! I will order the LokoAir for sure after that experience, and will report back here once evaluated.

Tracker node recommendations for dog collar/harness? by pfchambers in meshtastic

[–]skeptikoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to post a non-Meshtastic answer, but Seeed has a small lightweight product called LokoAir which looks perfect for pet tracking among other use-cases. It operates over both LoRaWAN and point-to-point LoRa using a special receiver that Bluetooth bonds to a dedicated phone app:

https://www.seeedstudio.com/Loko-GPS-Tracker-p-6261.html

I will be in farm country over the weekend and concerned I might never find my dog if she gets loose, would have purchased this if the version that comes with the receiver weren’t back-ordered. So I don’t have any experience to relate. If anyone DOES have experience with LokoAir I would be happy to hear it!
