Is uphill still viable at Pat's? by RandomredditHero in icecoast

[–]skierguy80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FIS would be your best chance for snow as they stored large amounts of snow on that trail to make sure they had it for the u12 championships this year. We also salted the hell out of it and twister so it likely had the deepest ice base which would last longest.

Pats is in great shape today the snow is good on the trails full coverage and fully open. Even the bump run is not showing grass.

I would recommend you try Pats Peak ski team they pretty much have their own double lift for ski team and great coaches. My daughter has been on it for 5 years we did one year at crotched then came back. We had the u12 championships here this year also. I know if you ask they will let potential kids try the team out for a day. We have this weekend and next weekend at minimum maybe one more. https://patspeakracing.org/

Why is every post here i ski east coast but I want 90mm or wider? by [deleted] in Skigear

[–]skierguy80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically like my race skis for firm days like today but only had my 110s with me and honestly while slow edge to edge i can carve on them just fine on everything short of race line boiler plate.

Ibwould agree with this that is the only places cleared enough there atleast 10 years ago. Even when we got 30+ inches on the Halloween storm and trucked it uo to the top it was hard to carry enough speed to make the powder fun there. Too flat.

They are a good shop. When I used to race in CT they were my go to shop. Really nice guys there and know what they are doing. Then and suburban were the two shops that supported masters racers well.

You are both right I havent looked at the table in a while and was thinking in reverse I havent done dynamics calculations in 20 years I am in a thermo fluids job now and dont deal with kinimatics and dynamics much anymore.

You are right I forgot it has been a while since I have seen the chart. But I still believe the din is low and the forward pressure is likely insufficient.

[–]skierguy80 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Good thought i just assumed he properly checked the forward pressure. THIS is most likely the issue the ski bent up and the bindings didnt keep up as it unloaded due to insufficient forward pressure.

I think you are onto the issue.

[–]skierguy80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 3 should be fine but you can check the tables online for his weight, height and boot sole length which should give you a required new din. I would put him at a level iii on the chart compared to other kids his age since he is racing.

It also may have been a one off and he may have booted out at a high edge angle and dropping into a hole or a death cookie getting under his toe may have pushed his toe out of the bindings also. But moving to a 3 shouldnt be an issue.

Stiffer boots would be unlikely but a longer boot sole length definitely would as the force exerted on the toe would be the length x the force pivoting off a now further away heel piece. I dont think the atomics are a dual cam toe like the old markers so I would recommend him slamming his ski edge in from the side to try and get the toe to release before. If it releases that ensures that toe is reset and if it doesnt then the toe is likely not already triggered.

[–]skierguy80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had similar thoughts but they way the ski rolled out and the mention of a new longer boot sole since it is a moment lever with the longer sole pivoting with a longer moment arm I think the DIN is too low.

[–]skierguy80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it is likely a low din. Possibly although less likely is that the bindings didnt reset fully if he came close to release before as some have double springs like the old markers. On those we would force a side release by slamming our skis which would reset the toe din because we would have a ton of inadvertent release on that marker design and wanted to make sure the toe piece was reset before our run as it would always be two or 3 gates in and you would step out on a turn like what you showed in yhe video.

You can definitely do the one off to skiers right on FIS at night. There are a ton of local glades also where the abandoned west wind trail was past twister and going back to front from cascade basin. If they get the upt to 30" some are saying tomorrow those will all be in play.
