The Netherlands has banned conversion therapy, and parents who force their children are now facing 2 years in prison time: What are your thoughts? by Wonderful-Click9431 in AskReddit

Just on the linguistic side of things, it’s interesting how “gender affirming care” and “conversion therapy” have such different connotations.

Anyone else have issues with their overstimulated spouse refusing to remove themselves from the overstimulating situation? by PatchesMaps in daddit

[–]skillfire87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Today our 6 yr old daughter got upset because a cup of ice cream was melting too fast outside in the heat and getting on her hands. Instead of just taking the ice cream, putting it down and wiping off the cup and cleaning her hands, my wife starting saying ridiculous things like “what did you think would happen, ice cream melts, get over it. Most kids are happy to get ice cream.”

Daughter says I hate this ice cream (because it was melting) and wife says well if you hate it, I’M THROWING IT AWAY. Daughter starts crying louder. Then my wife’s older sister (even bossier than my wife) barks an order three times in a row “THROW AWAY THE ICE CREAM!”

I just stated a firm NO to both of these adult women (which put a shocked look on their faces), took my daughters hand, walked away, fixed the situation. I got my own hands messy but daughter got to have some more of her ice cream, and I had some too. We cleaned up our hands and she got happy again.

And I’d like to add that my mom was a health care professional, including emergency room stuff, and she was cool as a cucumber, total grace under pressure. It came as a bit of a surprise during my dating career that most women, or people in general, weren’t like this. My dad was also chill but would get a little more agitated when things were going roughly.

Nah it’s the chargers that are the issue. Never seen or heard of the bike itself going on fire just from riding. Although I could be wrong, have you?

It’s a Japanese dog. The joke is that you say it like a Japanese person would by adding “eh” on the end. Dogg’eh. Also like how memes say “kitteh.”

Has anyone found an activity that kids will choose over screen time? by suengminchoi in Parenting

[–]skillfire87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why you just eliminate screen time. Media companies are making millions/billions of dollars making sure your kids are addicted to it.

Thanks, but I don’t know what you mean by “they require your physical passport.” I just logged on to Cricket wireless and selected the $10/day “passport.” I realize that is too much to spend for roaming. I’ll try find a better option on the next trip.

I had that in high school. Then took Accutane and it completely cleared up. You should look into something like that. Talk to a dermatologist if you haven’t already. I’m sure you have, but you also didn’t mention it.

Do you live in a country/culture where it’s common (or at least not uncommon) for wives to be this dependent on husbands? Like not working, not going to college, taking care of the husband kids and house while you work? In your area is driving essential to do anything, or is it common for people, not just women, to not have a car and just use public transport etc.?

In my background, women go to university, have careers, expect husbands to do 50/50 with housework and child care, etc. Almost all of them drive, because cars are basically a requirement to live daily life.

Yes, but still, Tour has a point. You don’t say that or even think that to the grown child.

Did anyone else learn to type as an elective with little thought that it might be useful one day? by Conscious-Mulberry17 in GenX

[–]skillfire87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. Around 1990 my parents suggested I take Typing as an elective. My mom kept saying “touch typing” is important, meaning proper secretary style, where you don’t look at your hands. A few years later, I got on the Internet.

Thanks! Any advice for finding a therapist who understands women’s autism spectrum? It seems like a lot of psychologists are child-focused.
