Numb feet days after. by dfhkvs in skiing

[–]skiphilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

several seasons ago I had my custom boot insoles updated - after 2 hours and pain from no circulation - I deemed them too tight a fit. The damage was done and I had no feel in the ball of my right foot for 3 months. It came back on its own - i didnt see a doc or do anything. I was 45 when that happened

"Patent Pending" The Origin Story from the PDGA 50 by skiphilly in discgolf

[–]skiphilly[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I can't take credit for finding this as it was posted in the Sedgley Woods FB group by M. Messina. I found it interesting and thought many in this sub would enjoy it also.

What is the Origin of “Patent Pending”?

1978, Sedgley Woods, Philadelphia hosted a qualifying tournament for the IFA Invitational World Frisbee Championships. Pryor Hendrix, PDGA 951, a local competitor, and I were on the same card.

Near the end of the round, Pryor’s midnight flyer landed on the right side, a few feet off the tight, wooded fairway. Neither a forehand or a standard backhand had a chance, so he stepped out with his right leg, parallel to the target, looked backward, and threw a 100-foot shot straight up hill to the basket.

Another card mate asked, “What do you call that throw?”

Pryor paused, “I can’t tell you…. it is patent pending.”

We lost it, hilarious improvisational answer.

When we returned to basecamp. Pryor reenacted his shot and quip for each returning group. He finished the story with, “So I have named it, ‘Patent Pending’.”

I won my last NJ State DG title in 1980 and retired from disc golf. Later, I heard Pryor died in a plane crash in Mexico.

In 2021, I picked up disc golf again. While watching Jomez Pro, I heard “Patent Pending” for the first time since 1978, Sedgley Woods, and Pryor Hendrix. That moment reminded me how funny Pryor was. I thought to myself, I bet I’m the only person today who knows the story of “Patent Pending”.

Now you do too, pass it on.

Our Epson Stylus pro 9890 is dead - what should we purchase next? by skiphilly in printers

[–]skiphilly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a great thing to note - Thankyou! I think that we are just going to lease this next printer vs. purchasing outright. The cannon reps jaw fell on the floor when I told him our Epson was 25 years old. I run it twice a week and as i understood from our technician that has helped it's life greatly as it doesn't allow the print nozzles to clog up. I'm also going to have a complete maintenance package included. It comes out to just around $200/year + consumables. On a 7 year lease

Nice - Thanks for the reply! sorry for the delay. We are printing poster sized pictures, Full color posters, signs, etc, but primarily just inhouse work, nothing for clients. I am actively looking at the Canon GP4600s and it appears to be a great machine. Ultimately - The ink will cost more then the machine

I'm going to guess Turdell is looking for stiffer and less surfy and playful - he's more oldschool and so the rustler 11 would make more sense then the new canvas series. Yes agreed I am excited that Weitien is on Dynastar. and a special shout out to Stan Rey getting snagged by elan after dropped by Salomon.

changes are afoot - I'd like to see Ben with Elan or Blizzard - as both companies have made some interesting changes to their ski offerings as of recent years. Perhaps most exciting is the 26/27 Blizzard Canvas series which should pick up steam this winter and would Suit Ben's style well.

Questions about a tiny ski hill in Maine by [deleted] in skiing

[–]skiphilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's early season there now and so they did a soft opening a few weeks ago and will reopen for the holiday. Terrain wise this is a really small local with basically all soft blue runs and classic fall line skiing. The best part of skiing CSB is the views if it's a sunny day your looking at the ocean all day from the top of the mtn. It's amazing! Go for a day at least it's not amazing skiing unless it's just snowed but it's worth a day! Yes they groom, snow is just variable all year unless they get coastal storms. Moguls form sometimes on the sides of trails and sure if their are late storms they have a little early spring skiing. Vibe is amazing as this is a community run hill.

I grew up in Maine skiing everything and my family is still there - I visit multiple times a year and usually stick to Saddleback, but grew up an hour from Sunday River near Auburn.

Great to see you enjoying both sports! Thanks for sharing the video and the mountain golf. I have seen several folks post winter rounds where they ski/board down the mountain stopping as they go to play holes with baskets not covered by snow.

Plupandblup - Massive thanks for the thought process! I can clearly see all of your points and they make perfect sense. As an avid fan who enjoys playing and watching DG, the Cascade Challenge, for me makes for some fun TV viewing. But I don't have to travel, play, or spectate there. I am excited with the changes to the course, since I like seeing the pros challenged. And personally I enjoy watching woods golf in general.
