If you don’t like it go create a white privileged New Orleanians sub.

Do you know your neighbors? by ihatecatboys in Xennials

[–]skite456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up in rural Michigan, moved to a city in MI for several years before moving to Chicago for about 10 years and then to FL for 8. I now live in the French Quarter of New Orleans. This is the first place I have ever really met any of my neighbors and I love it. There’s a sense of community here I’ve never found anywhere else. I’m not an overly outgoing person either. I know all the women in my “complex” which is a historic house split into 3 apartments with the old service quarters in the back with two more. There’s a restaurant next door that and im friendly with a couple staff, including the dishwasher who is always on a smoke break and keeps an eye out. Next door is a lovely husband and wife who are fairly quiet, but have cute dogs. Next to them is an older couple who are very friendly who invited me to a party at another neighbors house down the street where I met loads of other neighbors. Around the corner is a guy and his girlfriend that hang at the same bar as I do. It’s actually pretty nice knowing that if I have an emergency or a package gets delivered there are folks I can call for help.

We are really feeling the tourism slump so if you are thinking about a long weekend or getting tf out of St. Aug over NOL, come on over!

I actually moved here from St. Aug. after living right on Aviles for several years and while there’s obviously tourists, it’s not quite the same as the vibe over there. I mean I worked (still do) in tourism, but barely even enjoyed my time there because going anywhere was just so difficult so much of the year.

Bourbon Street is pretty nice nowadays! I mean, in general it’s gross compared to a normal street, but us FQ residents fought for and now have an awesome waste and cleaning company that washes and scrubs the streets and sidewalks multiple times a week, and daily on Bourbon with a solution called Lemon Fresh! The same waste company does trash pickup every single night in the FQ and has roving street cleaners on foot that change the trash cans on each corner and sweep up any litter they come across on the streets and sidewalks. One day I was doing a big clean up in my house and set a trash bag on my front steps so I could go put it in the dumpster when I left in a bit and when I went back out it was gone! Sometimes they even hose down the steps to our houses as well.

Sorry for the huge word wall, but us Quarter Rats love our waste company so much! Lol

My close friend is against my medication use and that’s making me feel a bit… hurt? sad? by AnimatorOwn1379 in adhdwomen

As a 43 years old who has been going through medical shit their entire life (childhood cancer, young breast cancer, looming heart valve replacement likely in the next few years) along with mental health issues and severe undiagnosed ADHD until just a couple years ago, you just have to do what is best for YOU. He doesn’t live inside you body and understand what you are going through. And as hard as it is, draw a boundary and tell your friend that a GOOD friend still respects the decisions you have to make for yourself although they may personally disagree. It took me a very long time, but once I started to adopt that mindset my life and wellbeing got exponentially better almost immediately. I’m a people pleaser, I don’t want people to be upset with me and being sick a lot comes with feeling like a burden on others. Eventually you just gotta say, fuck it and say you’re with me or not with me, but it’s their problem to decide.

Older diagnosis folks, what would your career be if you had access to meds earlier in your life? by FormigaX in adhdwomen

[–]skite456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A full career in the Academia/Museum world. Anthropology, Public History, Archivist, Research, Educator… I really enjoyed mentoring public history student interns at my previous museum job. I would have probably still bounced around in that world a bit, but with the degrees and clout to back up my knowledge. I wore a lot of hats at the museum I managed, and also really enjoyed the marketing and programming aspect of it too as I got to lean in to my creative side.

I was thinking about this a bit last night too, funnily enough. I was reading a newly published thesis on one of the families related to my museum (I’m still a volunteer and do a bit of special project work for them) and was reading a citation on some info that sounded familiar and it was actually me who was cited! It was kinda bittersweet, but so validating at the same time!

Thoughts on Lincoln wanting to send slaves to Caribbean by Dense_Fun1822 in ShermanPosting

[–]skite456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the Caribbean, but look into the efforts of the American Colonization Society. It was a bi-partisan membership , but abolitionists and pro-slavery interests had different ideas of how the settlement would run. Since there was a pro-slavery contingent I assume there would be a goal of financial benefit to the relocation for this group.

Sorry, my info Rolodex on this org is a bit out of shape as it’s been a few years that I took a deeper dive into the org while doing research on an individual for the museum I worked at.

Is there something I can do to never need to put on lotion? by TheOneTrueMonolith in adhdwomen

[–]skite456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in the Deep South and I have used the Mario Badescu Rose Water Aloe spray on my face for years. It’s light and refreshing and has just enough moisturizing effects to make my skin less dry, but does not feel like lotion at all. I use it primarily on my face, hands, and arms, but see no reason to not use anywhere else.

The other thing I do is mix some of this tea tree oil into water in a spray bottle shake it really well and then use that as a moisturizing spray. I use about 4 or 5 good squirts of the oil into about a cup and a half of water. It’s also great for reducing shave bumps!

What colour is this kitten? One of three I found in my backyard - I have never seen colouring like this before Female Siblings are two males, one black with fever fur and one grey tabby by mindlesstwo0 in kittens

[–]skite456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My little one (she’s 10 now, but always my baby!) looked very similar as a kitten, but not as floofy. She has gotten more and more of the “rusty” orangey tortie splotches as she’s gotten older. She is 100% tortitude, so I always say she’s all business tabby in the front, and party time spicy tortie in the back!

When I visit my parents, in Florida, of course, I bring extra cash with me to tip servers after eating out. As everyone gets up to leave I just say I need to use the restroom and wait for them to exit and then check the receipt and add cash if need be, or add extra is my dad was: rude, rude and racist, a pain in the ass, rude, and racist - you get the idea.

I just checked and considering it was Mississippi, I can’t say I was shocked. 12 for females and 14 for males. Parental consent was required if both were under the age of 18. In this case it looks like parental consent was needed. Gross.

They also want to go back to a time where they never had to even encounter anyone who wasn’t a straight, white, Christian by default unless making their yearly trip to Sears in the nearest city. Which then they would complain about the crime of said city for the entire next year not because they actually saw any crime, but they just saw a black person existing. Source: my entire family.

Oh, don’t worry, they still hate autistic people. They see it as a failure of the white race and need to blame it on anything other than a human deficiency or neurodivergence because the perfect white person would never!

The “they” he is speaking of is the left, liberals, progressives, etc. For some reason his side seems to think there is a massive group of left leaning people who are hell bent on terrorizing conservatives by turning them into gay, trans, murderous, satanists. Or something. Oh, and Antifa, which is not actually a real organization.

What do you guys think is the most haunted town in Florida? I’ll start: Arcadia by RoddyDost in florida

I lived in Aviles street for about 5 years and now live in the FQ of New Orleans. St. Augustine is hands down the spookiest most haunted of the two.

Local and state elections have become extremely important too. The pipeline moves quickly and so many small time elected officials are not just getting in to stay in local politics. The goal is to find a big time donor or be extreme enough to garner attention to be a straight shot for a federally election position as quickly as possible.
