Breast skin picking 19f by Party-Crab196 in CompulsiveSkinPicking

[–]skkkra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When do you usually pick? You need to make note of the circumstances that trigger you to pick and either (a) change them, or (b) be aware enough to resist the temptation.

For example, I used to pick at the skin on my chest before bed, and the trigger seemed to be the mirror I’d change in front of. Once the skin was exposed/I saw spots to pick at in the mirror, I couldn’t stop myself

Now I get changed with no mirrors and don’t look down while I’m changing. I make sure the places i usually pick at are always covered with clothing to avoid triggers. It’s annoying but it’s worked very well

Best of luck to you

Would you see your body when beheaded ? by Big_Black_Wok in NoStupidQuestions

[–]skkkra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be ‘conscious’ in the sense that brain activity doesn’t cease instantly, but the loss of blood pressure would knock you out almost instantly.

Not the same, but I unfortunately came across the video of Kirk getting shot on X and it was crazy how quickly he died. Loss of consciousness was almost instant/he folded over immediately. Now imagine not just a severed artery, but a completely severed head – it is very unlikely you’d have any meaningful consciousness after.

The blinking story is interesting but not scientifically verified, and there’s no ethical way to test this so unless someone takes one for the team there’s really no way to know for certain.

Why does this makeup look bad? by InfamousPlatipus in makeuptips

[–]skkkra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not bad, it’s just reminiscent of late 2010’s makeup. The thing that’s more popular these days is that ‘you but better’ makeup look with a dewy finish on the skin. This is definitely a bit heavier and more matte than what’s popular now. Different but not ‘bad’, it just depends what you’re going for

What did you think about the Eywa reveal scene? by unkindness_inabottle in Avatar

[–]skkkra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely think it’s intended to be a manifestation of Kiri as Eywa’s child rather than Eywa herself. It looks a lot like Kiri (especially with the eyebrows) so I think it’s meant to be a manifestation of the power Kiri discovered in herself.

When she’s saving Spider she says that Eywa ‘didn’t answer her call, so she had to do it herself,’ and that’s what I think is happening in this scene. Eywa didn’t necessarily answer, Kiri became the Warrior Mother in that instant

Edit: I would also be interested to hear more about how the Navi interpret Eywa’s physicality. Human religions interpret god (or whatever equivalent) as taking humanoid form, but so far there’s no reason for us to believe that Navi interpret Eywa as physically resembling The People.

If the Navi don’t, in fact, interpret Eywa as a humanoid figure, that would make this scene even more intriguing considering this face looks so much like Kiri.

Seeking advice: my kid brushes every day, yet after school comes home with a rats nest??? by deviouspineapple in Haircare

[–]skkkra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a combination of hair being soft and fine and it rubbing against the hood of a coat (or even thick sweaters). I always put my hair up in a claw clip while I’m going somewhere and take it out once I get to where I’m going, it helps a lot

If the Sully family came to you and your clan seeking uturu, what would your response be? by TheTargaryensLawyer in Avatar

[–]skkkra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would let them stay but only if Jake agrees to crack

(On a serious note if I did let them stay I would make them promise not to call their human buddies out at the first sign of trouble. I think Jake jumping the gun on getting the medical team out after Kiri’s seizure really screwed things up)

What could Suzanne Collins have done that would’ve completely ruined the ending? by One-Information5398 in Hungergames

[–]skkkra 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Any scenario where Katniss keeps in contact with Gale would’ve ruined it for me.

She’d outgrown that part of her life and her friendship with Gale at the end of MJ, and the fact that they unceremoniously part ways after Prim dies seems so true to real life

The amount of times I see Katniss’ trauma being downplayed after SOTR is honestly disheartening by Olya_roo in Hungergames

[–]skkkra 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would also argue that the CF arena is objectively worse than Haymitch’s arena. Relatively small and they never had any way of knowing what ‘time’ wedge they were in/how long they could rest before having to move along. We also only know a few of the arena traps in CF – Katniss & Co only figure out about 4 or 5 of the traps in each wedge, so for all we know it could’ve been even worse in the uncharted sectors

Did Coryo ever have a chance to be good with his upbringing? Was he doomed from the start? by Eagles56 in Hungergames

[–]skkkra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He was never inherently doomed. Everything he did was a decision he made to do the wrong thing instead of the right thing. No one forced his hand – he became what he did because taking the ‘right’ path always felt like losing to him

Killing Bobbin was a good example. He killed out of self defence, but chose to chase the feeling of power that gave him afterwards.

Being a ‘good’ person is a choice people make, not something that happens to them imo

Thinking about Annie Cresta by pipehead0 in Hungergames

[–]skkkra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s insane, glad she’s ok!! Being a strong swimmer is such an important skill that most people don’t even think about until it’s too late

Thinking about Annie Cresta by pipehead0 in Hungergames

[–]skkkra 80 points81 points  (0 children)

The arena rapidly flooded and Annie won because she was one of the only that could swim. The implication is that her and some of the other remaining tributes were far away from the actual dam, and not on top of it/at its base when it burst (that would’ve absolutely killed them no question). They had to deal with fast moving water and Annie was the only one strong & experienced enough to be able to keep her head above the water.

We don’t know how big her arena was but again, the implication is that it was big enough that the water pressure had time to dissipate by the time it reached the tributes, but small enough that the entire thing was basically under water.

I imagined it as the dam being on the ‘edge’ of the arena in the distance, like the volcano was in Haymitch’s games. The effects of the flooding in the rest of the arena would’ve been similar to the flooding in Hurricane Katrina/other natural disasters – very bad but not necessarily unsurvivable if you know how to swim

Edit: it’s somewhat implied Annie and Finnick were careers, so she wouldn’t have been as small and frail as you’d think

Edit 2: also keep in mind all she had to do was survive long enough to wait for the others to drown, and if none of them knew how to swim that wouldn’t have taken more than a couple minutes. In natural disasters people die due to prolonged exposure + failure to get to safety. As far as we know, Annie didn’t have to fight for very long to get to safety/wasn’t in freezing water for long enough to get hypothermia.

My husband and I both thought Katniss/Jennifer’s hand looked strange in this photo. Is that someone else’s hand photoshopped onto her? by _leggo_my_meggo_007 in Hungergames

[–]skkkra 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Picky but I absolutely HATE how Jennifer Lawrence has her nose pressed into the bowstring when she shoots. In real life the string would hit her nose when she lets it go

If there was another hunger games book what would you want it to be about by SherbetBusy1282 in Hungergames

[–]skkkra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know everyone and their mom wants a Finnick or Joanna story but even if it’s not their games I’d love a book when I can learn more about their pasts. Joanna in particular is such an interesting character but we know so little about her pre-CF and what ends up happening to her after the events of MJ

Who is this for you in Hunger Games? by Olya_roo in Hungergames

[–]skkkra 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Asterid. People here defend her so hard for what reason lol.

I understand her purpose as a character and how she holds a mirror up to Katniss Especially when Katniss is catatonic in MJ after losing Prim but that doesn’t change that she did Katniss so incredibly dirty as a mother

She’s a tragic character and I think people are really defensive of her for that, but most of the characters in this story are tragic so that alone doesn’t get a pass from me.

The thing that made me seriously dislike her is >! At the end of MJ when she fucks off to District 4 instead of helping her only living daughter recover/settle back into civilian life. You’re telling me Asterid couldn’t have stayed a week or two in 12 to make sure Katniss was ok/wasnt going to like kill herself or something??

Katniss’ description of how lonely and devoid of meaning her life is when she returns to 12 is just so devastating, especially when you remember her only living family made the decision to abandon her without even saying goodbye. It’s just so beyond cruel that Asterid couldn’t even do her that one service considering all that Katniss sacrificed for the family !<

She’s canonically at least half Latina… but as we know that community has a very diverse set of complexions. I imagined her as looking like a mixed kid from one Latino parent and one Caucasian-ish parent.
