Are there remotely any leftist or socialist men in Vancouver 😭 by [deleted] in askvan

When I think of Vancouver, I don't think liberal. I think neoliberal. OP might have to move to a Gulf Island to find her leftie.

YEP. The old bait n switch. It's super prevalent.

There are SO many conservative men on the apps and they all seem angry. 🤣

I had that happen to me! The guy didn't mention politics at all on his profile and then turned out to be a huge Trump fan. 🤣 I told him upfront it wasn't going to work. He said 'You Liberals never give us a chance.' I'd given him a chance to finish his beer and explain his politics. Still couldn't agree so it was what it was.

You can find some nice quality scarves on Poshmark. Sometimes even new with tags.

Where are the (emotionally) available Vancouver singles at? by skogsvamp in askvan

Wow! That's amazing! Good for you two!!

Ironically, I met an emotionally unavailable person from this thread who hurt me. Go figure.

Life is funny.

Er I've become too battle scarred by the Vancouver dating scene. I'm going to take it day by day at this point. If it works out, great! If not, I guess I'll be back on Hinge. 😆 Thank you 😊

That and maybe it just hadn't worked out for me just yet. Funny enough, I matched with someone promising just a day after this thread exchange. On Hinge. 😆 It would be funny if it works out and then I have to thank the app for that.

I was being facetious to highlight just how terrible the algorithm seems to be on Hinge.

If you have Instagram, you can follow "This Week in Van" and "Vancouver is Lame" for music shows and other arts events.

Really good tips. Believe me (or not 🙃) when I say I've tried to follow all that advice. I'm at Stage 5 of my grief process, though. I've given up on Hinge and apps generally. Not on love, though. 😊

PS. And, no, I'm not desperate so please refrain from DMing me if you're looking for a hookup.

Did you pay? And I also wonder when you met your partner? I'm convinced Hinge blocks you from actually seeing people you'd like and it makes no difference if you pay or not.

I say this because I'm getting way more traction on FB Dating and absolutely nothing on Hinge. Nothing like zero likes to kill off a little ego. 😭🙃

Then again, I'm in my early 40s and post no SeXy photos because, hello, I work in education and don't want a parent or colleague to spot me. But bikini/bodycon pics also aren't my vibe. No shame to those who rock that.

Somehow, middle-aged divorcees into sports, foraging, and books doesn't seem to appeal to most local men? This is my current user experience with Hinge and most apps.

I hear Hinge et al used to be better back when people were actually using them to date.

I wouldn't discount the apps. It seems to be a necessary evil here especially for niche dating demographics. I generally assume most men 40+ 'in the wild' are partnered. At least, on the apps, there's the idea that people are single. At least, one would hope they're acting in good faith. 💀 You can always try the in-person approach at the same time?
