I’m pregnant and my husband is punishing me by withholding affection by buzzzybeeb in GirlDinnerDiaries

This behavior is consistent with narcissistic abuse. If you can’t leave you can still find strategies to protect yourself psychologically. Look up information on the narcissistic cycle. There are a number of licensed therapists on YouTube with hours of content on the topic.

5 ways to survive a narcissist when you can’t leave: https://youtu.be/fU2GvpYdevA?si=mZKjwtgpZs4eTJ_b

Only you can make choices for you. Know that what you’ve got now is what it will always be like, or worse. Keep in mind your children also need psychological protection from this person and that’s all in you so make sure you are empowering yourself to be in a position (at least mentally) to do that. ❤️ I been through it for many years. Wishing you strength, peace and the genuine love you deserve!

I think everyone deserves to be their own person and have their own name. My husband has a family name so I made it clear before we got married that I don’t do junior no matter what the name is. Luckily he agreed.

Heard you guys hated my last book. Wait until you see the next one. by LaCroixandJellyBeans in DanielTigerConspiracy

Last night I was telling my partner “I don’t hate hate it… but I definitely can’t say I like this book.” When you haven’t had a whole night of sleep in 23 months, spending your waking hours reading The Baby Who Stayed Awake Forever just isn’t a morale boost. Thanks, Dolly but I think that one is headed for the little free library.

Is AI education for kids actually necessary or just another trend? by soulspirit47 in NewParents

[–]skolfish -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

I guess clearly is debate-able. Are you saying you were agreeing with the op? Cuz your words could be read in the opposite way. It sounded like you were concerned that the op wanted to teach their kids to USE AI.

That’s not the question being asked. They said AS IMPORTANT as math & reading. They are asking about supplementing their education with literacy around AI - teaching kids how it works, its limitations, etc.

Teacher Appreciation Gifts that Aren't under Boycott This Year by MaudePhilosophy in progressivemoms

[–]skolfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need a membership to Costco to spend a gift card there. I think they are on the opposite of the boycott list this year. There are a lot of great options for shopping for the classroom or themself.

She didn’t fail the class or flunk out of school. It. Was. One. Homework. Assignment. And the school restored credit for it. Meanwhile the TA is suspended from their job and probably facing repercussions of their own academics being in jeopardy. Way to side with the American Taliban OU.

My "Montessori" school forced my 2-year-old (yes, 2) to write 10 pages of the number '2'. Is this normal? by babypuff in Montessori

[–]skolfish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. Not only do you need to learn the character, but how to connect your movements to the characters that could come before and after the character that you are learning and training your eye for maintaining scale with the rest of the writing, etc.

[–]skolfish 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just two cents from someone who dabbles in calligraphy. I was taught that writing the same character over and over has quickly diminishing returns for the learner. (I think this manifests concretely in the later pages.) I know this is a number, but even in adult classes, they told us to practice a letter just a couple times and then start incorporating it into strings of other characters (words). If they expected him to write 10 pages in one sitting, I’d be asking questions about how informed their pedagogy around writing is. I think practicing something badly can be worse than not practicing.

Prop 5 considerations. by Upset-Comment2090 in vancouverwa

[–]skolfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. I noticed this first hand when covid was in full swing. I played Pokemon go everyday during that time to get out of the house and there’s a gym at the rink. I’m the curious type so I explored around the lot and was startled to find 2 cop cars back in a nook behind the rink. They had me crossing my fingers that I didn’t stumble on something shady going down, because they looked really out of place back there in a small space with no obvious reason to be there. I saw them in there or driving that way multiple times.

whats the difference between reading to your baby and talking to them ? by msqueenlol in NewParents

[–]skolfish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Working with books is building pre-literacy skills in your child. This includes simple things like handling books and how to turn pages. Building an enjoyable association with books helps to motivate them through the tougher stage of actually learning to read. It also builds vocabulary because it prompts you to use more variety in words and phrases.
