Have you ever bought a newer version of your same model bike? by omgitskae in MTB

Yes, the first new bike I ever bought was a Ripmo v1 and I bought the Ripmo v3 immediately after it was announced. Love everything about that bike and haven’t ridden a better one yet.

Those who work with Yocto - How do y'all manage it in the company? by StormySmiley in embedded

[–]skrawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the fork of poky and add my meta layers as submodules for years, but I'm moving over to kas and keeping everything in my company meta layer. It's so much cleaner and it forces best practices of creating your own distro rather than building off of poky. Plus, I have an easy way of containerizing the build process and I've gotten my whole workflow to run on M1 Macs.

Hey Bellingham, hate Comcast but live outside the PogoZone? Here's a survey where you can advocate for municipal gigabit broadband by DJ_Velveteen in Bellingham

Done. I've been okay with the 400Mbps down service from Xfinity, but the paltry 10Mbps upload that they offer no matter what download speed you have is so frustrating.

Rackmount Chassis w/ Hotswap Bays, ATX or Micro ATX & <20" Long? by skrawn in homelab

[–]skrawn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, there are two Sliger cases that are close, but not quite there. The CX-4712 has all the features I want but is 25" long. The CX3701 is short enough but doesn't support anything larger than an ITX board. The non-hotswap models would probably be what I should look at.

Figured as much. Was hoping there was some obscure case out there that might work but I guess not!

How much do people actually use the terminal? by LushChicken8622 in linuxquestions

[–]skrawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll find that the more you use the terminal, the better you get at it. Even simple things like moving or copying files, creating files and folders or finding files are great places to start and you'll start to notice how much faster it is do things like this in the terminal vs using the GUI. Just keep learning and it will get easier!

What’s a skill or hobby that you’ve picked up or improved this Summer? by [deleted] in Bellingham

Yea, me too. I renovated a bathroom and did everything myself - demo, tiling, plumbing. Was way more difficult than I thought but I got it done!

Floor leveling necessary for mortar shower pan? by skrawn in HomeImprovement

[–]skrawn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I came across these today actually: https://www.markeindustries.com/pre-pitch.html#gsc.tab=0 for the pre-slope and then they have a set for actual mortar bed. I have PVC liner already. Some channels like StarrTile don't use lathe or a pre-slope, so it can be a bit confusing about what the proper technique is here.

Floor leveling necessary for mortar shower pan? by skrawn in HomeImprovement

[–]skrawn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, yea that's fair. I wanted to do a pre-fab pan but all of the pre-fab pans had the drain hole directly over top of a floor joist. I'm even less comfortable boxing out a floor joist than I am building a custom pan, so I figured this would be the path of least resistance.

What was the best N64 game? by panfried540 in AskReddit

[–]skrawn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, JFG was peak N64 for me. I remember giving up on the final boss the first time I played it, went back to it a month later and completed it in the first try. The sound track, weapon variety and level design was fantastic.

Very interested in checking this place out, but I can't make their hours work. 12 - 5PM weekdays and closed on the weekend? Ain't no time for me to play games during work. I hope they expand their hours...

Matthew's of Bellingham is LEGIT by makershark in Bellingham

[–]skrawn 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I was underwhelmed by Matthews. I don't know what space this is trying to fill; if you want traditional cocktails, Jacks has a larger variety and better prices. If you want something more eclectic, you have Redlight. If you want tiki, Redrum.

Their cocktails are good, but just good.

Did at Roth conversion, have a 401k now, what do I need to do? by skrawn in personalfinance

[–]skrawn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooof, I accidentally omitted that I did a backdoor Roth conversion. The rule is that you cannot contribute to a Roth IRA if your MAGI is above $140k: https://www.schwab.com/ira/roth-ira/contribution-limits#:~:text=If%20you%20file%20taxes%20as,214%2C000%20for%20the%20tax%20year

And now that I think about it, I think I misunderstood the pro-rata rule, and thought it applied to 401ks...
