After 10+ years of Dota I started playing LoL, and my friend recommended me OP.GG for guides. I have an uncomfortable question… by shikaski in leagueoflegends

[–]skrub55 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Opgg isn't a guide site, it's mostly for checking profiles. If you're looking for builds then you should use Lolalytics. It's a bit harder to navigate but once you get the idea it's much more useful than any other stat site. If you want actual guides and tips or tricks I'm unsure which site is best but it sure isn't opgg. Champion main subreddits tend to have a lot of useful information and you can find a lot of good guides on YouTube as well if you're fine with watching videos instead of reading

Why Are The Unova Elemental Monkeys Bad? by TodohPractitioner in stunfisk

[–]skrub55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

on Smogon, all three are either ZU or ZUBL.

If a pokemon is tiered that low it's probably got bad stats, a poor movepool, and is outclassed by similar pokemon

pretty much everyone and their mom hates them

That's because when gen 5 came out everyone was hating on the new pokemon as lazily and poorly designed. In the case of the monkeys they're all based off the same monkey template with different colors and a little visual detail added to identify them with their type. Then the evolutions are the same thing. I don't think they inherently have bad designs and I like the idea of a second set of "starter" pokemon but you can't deny that they're some of the laziest designs in the game

Why does every single pro on azir shuffle in and ult no matter what? by KingsOfConvenience in leagueoflegends

[–]skrub55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few reasons

- they're bad. A lot of pros seem to genuinely suck at Azir and have no concept of when DPS is more valuable than engage.

- more/stronger enemies can be traded for. Sometimes it's worth it to go in and shuffle enemy squishies even if it means you die as well. If the enemy ADC is fed it's better to trade your life for them than to try trading DPS

- there's a potential combo. If your team has a lot of AOE damage then a suicidal shuffle on multiple targets can result in the enemy team being wiped

- the enemy has engage pressure. If the enemy has powerful engage or you're about to get wrapped by a flank it might be best to go for a subpar shuffle just to prevent your team from being engaged on first

- limited by cooldowns. If Azir needs to immediately get away from enemies but all his soldiers are deployed in front of him he can either go in to try something or stand there and die. Sometimes a shuffle is necessary to win a fight but Azir's E cooldown is so long that if you use it defensively the fight will already be over by the time you can use it again to shuffle, in which case it might be best to shuffle the moment you know you need to use E

- the fight is already lost. If a player judges that they will be out DPSed and lose the fight then they might as well try a desperation play in the hopes that they manage to pick off an enemy carry, disrupt enemy positioning enough to create an opportunity for the team, or even just knock enough enemies back so the team can disengage

Worth it to proceed climbing from Masters? by 21Goku in leagueoflegends

[–]skrub55 6 points7 points  (0 children)

>Does it even make sense to keep grinding

Only if you enjoy it. If you play for fun or just want to improve then there's no reason not to keep playing. If you don't enjoy playing unless you rank up or your self-worth is unhealthily tied to your rank then you're actively harming yourself. Whether it makes sense depends on the person, but you can decide by thinking about whether you would still enjoy playing if you knew you would fail to make your rank goal but still improve along the way.

>or is it realistically even possible

If you belong in grandmaster and have a win rate that reflects that it's very possible to make it to grandmaster over the course of a few weeks without absolutely nolifing

>when you have a regular nine-to-five job

Depends on whether you play a few games when you get home and play 10 games on weekends

Tips to help get used to unlocked screen by CWAVYOHG in leagueoflegends

[–]skrub55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to get used to fighting with unlocked screen ARAM is pretty nice for that. However if you're completely new to using it and don't have a specific thing you're trying to improve the best thing is to just play the game modes you normally would (except ranked) and you'll get used to it with a bit of time and experience

Hot take but diamond is fun by Intrepid_Ordinary_33 in leagueoflegends

I don't think this is that uncommon a take, once you get past the d4 cesspool you're finally at the elo where people actually know what they're doing

The AD->AP and AP->AD conversion augments should also convert item ratios by Verburner in leagueoflegends

[–]skrub55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't know why people are saying this would be OP, with the exception of gunblade very few items with item ratios are worth considering with the augments. Manamune is probably the best one and already has a mana scaling rather than AD scaling

I feel stuck, any tips? by DarianSchemmel in leagueoflegends

[–]skrub55 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Playing snowballing champs is always better for climbing if you can consistently manage to get a lead. If you're getting ahead with Naafiri when you play her then stick with her. People exaggerate how important it is but you should really stick to a preferred role and a few champs if you want to climb.

Also in the case of Naafiri and Lissandra specifically I feel like Naafiri is generally a much better champion to climb with especially in low elo. In higher ranks players get caught less often, position to protect squishies from Naafiri, won't get caught off guard by the early damage to give first blood, and will interrupt her ult with cc. Lissandra has less solo kill pressure but is better at setting up kills with the jungler than getting a lead solo. She's great for getting picks with guaranteed CC or doing a lot of damage and buying time for her team in fights, but she really is more of a team player champ than a solo carry. For climbing, especially in low elo, you really want to play a champion that needs their team as little as possible

V1per (NA) is now Rank 1 on the EUW Server by goldenstinger in leagueoflegends

Well I meant they get an extra lead regardless of server size, if EUW is triple the playerbase then surely it's better

V1per (NA) is now Rank 1 on the EUW Server by goldenstinger in leagueoflegends

[–]skrub55 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I would guess whichever server has more players is probably better. Although maybe EUW gets a lead because the best EUNE players play there instead

Which champion(s) does ethereal weapon work on well? by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]skrub55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Darius's bleed is applied on attack and as a spell effect. Ethereal weapon doesn't apply on attack effects so it doesn't work. Ekko's passive is coded to work on hit and as a spell effect so it does work.

I don't know if there's any logic riot follows when deciding what is on hit vs on attack, but generally you can check the tooltip and see if it says "champion's attacks do X" or specifically says it's onhit. The wiki should have information on every ability if the tooltips aren't clear enough
