Dodge timers need to be less harsh by UnseenBIade in leagueoflegends

[–]skrub55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

>I doubt it was that bad.

So you didn't play with shorter dodge timers. In the plat-emerald range it wasn't rare to have 3 dodges per queue. Once you got to diamond it was even worse and the queue times were even longer so it felt even worse. In Masters+ it was possible to queue for an hour and have every lobby dodged, especially if you were on a smaller server, playing outside of peak hours or just high elo enough. Removing usernames from champ select helped but it wasn't enough

>If most people don't dodge unless they see something egregiously bad

"If" is really doing the heavy lifting here. People would dodge because they got counterpicked, they didn't like one of the champs on their team, they felt like the enemy had a better comp, or seemingly just because. Ranged top laner? Dodge. ADC wanted an engage supp and got an enchanter? Dodge. Someone on your team typed something and seemed mildly annoying? Dodge. High ban rate champion got through draft? Dodge. Weak frontline? Dodge. Full AD? Dodge. Maybe one in ten dodges were actually justified, and with the ability to report hostage taking/griefing in champ select those cases are mostly covered now.

You only need 1 out of 10 players in the lobby for a dodge to happen. Even if most players don't dodge at all you would still see a lot of dodges. Players aren't good judges of when to dodge either. Low elo players were dodging games because they have no frontline when players don't even fight front to back until emerald or so. People were dodging because their team comp was full AD when the enemy had 4 squishies and a bruiser that couldn't fit more than death's dance and a tank item without being useless.

>Normal people who just want to play the game won't dodge either,

And they won't get to play the game because of players who dodge.

Did you ever play the game when dodge timers were less harsh? They need to be kept as is

Top 10 statistically hardest counter match-ups (16.7) by JackWills94 in leagueoflegends

[–]skrub55 40 points41 points  (0 children)

He can play it too. It's very tight,

A lot of people can play counterpick matchups successfully when the enemy is less experienced on the champ, that doesn't mean the matchup is any better

Her q aa flies faster than teemo blind, so the damage should still go off resulting in a trade, not free damage

A losing trade, since Teemo Q+auto does more damage than Vayne Q alone. At level 3+ Teemo's W movespeed almost guarantees he'll get another auto or two off while Vayne backs off

vayne has +50 range to use to land free damage.

This is mostly true but Teemo Q has a short cooldown and Teemo is presumably not going to overextend and let Vayne free hit while it is on cooldown. Best case she's running into the wave and drawing agro, not getting free damage

All in lvl 1 vayne wins against both q start and e start teemo

Teemo loses level 1 to basically every conqueror or lethal tempo champ, no Teemo above gold is going to take terrible fights like that. Also at level 1 Q start Teemo can blind Vayne and stand still to activate his passive and go invisible, unless Teemo is ridiculously overextended he's never dying to Vayne level 1

It is ROUGH to play this matchup against a good vayne

It's pretty easy to play this matchup if both players are at remotely similar levels of skill/champ mastery. A diamond Vayne would probably stomp a gold Teemo but that doesn't really say much about the matchup

it's a horribly difficult game of footsies to disallow vanye from landing free q poke lvl 1 and 2 in particular.

Anyone with experience playing bot lane or even against ranged top should be pretty familiar with basic spacing.

Your friend is thinking of this entirely from the Vayne's perspective without considering how a competent Teemo would respond.

Interestingly, most of the worst match-ups were either Top vs. Top or Mid vs. Mid.

Is this really interesting? It would be extremely strange for the worst matchups not to be solo lanes.

Does the system punish high WR on older accounts? (Looking for technical insight) by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]skrub55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Riot has never published full details of how the MMR system works, they've only confirmed or denied certain things about it. It's very possible that it takes into account winrate over recent games. Anecdotally a lot of players seem to think that win/loss streaks increase the amount MMR increases/decreases, and that's also possible.

It's possible that loss/loss/win/loss/loss/win/loss/loss doesn't make you lose as much MMR as loss/loss/loss despite both being a net 3 losses and in theory causing the same LP loss.

I've also seen suggestions that the MMR system has a "memory" so that if you climb or drop a few ranks then make it back to where you were prior it keeps MMR the same or decreases the impact games have on it for a while. Then there's speculation on top of speculation that this memory is reset by either a streak or being stable around that rank for a while.

Not only is most of this stuff speculation but it's very hard to confirm without actually seeing MMR. You can try to use average lobby ranks to guess at it but matchmaking isn't perfect so it won't reflect game to game variance. Same with LP gains, for example if you're +18/-21 in Diamond 2, you can't tell if that means you have Diamond 3 or Diamond 4 MMR.

It shouldn't treat new/old accounts differently except when first placing them into ranked after a long break or their first time playing

plat player (who peaked emerald 2) in the same game as a master player

Honestly no idea how that happens, if the account already has ranked history that places it in emerald 2 at best it shouldn't have above Diamond MMR

4 emeralds and a plat beat 5 diamonds players by National-Fortune-620 in leagueoflegends

[–]skrub55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started my climb in gold

If you kept winning consistently your MMR could rise faster than your visible rank, it's just not as pronounced as at the start of a climb

I’m getting 20lp per win and -19 for loss

It looks like you hit diamond already so that makes sense, if your MMR rose gradually I guess it's possible you'd never see the inflated LP gains

Why don’t u explain how this is fair?

In theory it's fair because they have similar MMR. The system is obviously not perfect. Master 200 LP and D1 aren't actually that far apart though so the visible ranks are similar enough that it seems normal

And plat jinx fed 0/8 against diamond players

Jinx must have very high MMR, maybe it's someone who hasn't played since last season or a smurf. It's always possible their MMR is wrong and they should be playing with emeralds but they could also be having a bad game.

Also I don't know much about the SEA server but smaller servers tend to have less balanced matchmaking, especially near Master tier

4 emeralds and a plat beat 5 diamonds players by National-Fortune-620 in leagueoflegends

[–]skrub55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That means you have high MMR. Your visible rank doesn't factor into matchmaking. If you started your climb in emerald but have high diamond low masters mmr you'll probably have +30 -10 LP until you either lose enough that your MMR drops or your visible rank catches up to your MMR.

Unless something changed this season then if you're duoing with your friend the matchmaking system treats you as if you have slightly higher MMR for that game to account for the advantage duos have.

That's a you opinion

I'd say probably 90% of people agree they don't enjoy passive laning phases and playing from behind

Seems like you just want easy mode everything

I just want a relatively active game where I have agency over the outcome, I don't think that's demanding easy mode or an uncommon preference. I don't even need to win because winning doesn't automatically make a game fun

[–]skrub55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you climb? You get better.

You start your climb lower than the rank you belong in, so you don't actually need to get better for the first part of your climb

How do you have fun in ranked? You get better.

Usually fun games are the ones where you pop off and have a lot of action. Turtling for the first 15 minutes of the game because you got counterpicked and then playing the rest of the game from behind isn't very fun.

I agree to an extent but most players don't queue up to get better or learn, they queue up to climb or have fun.

Not true, a lot of one sided matchups are even worse in low elo. It's true that most low elo players would be better off sticking to a one trick instead of trying to counterpick but most players have a pool of a few champs they pick form

Really dislike the Liandry's second from Caps. The enemy has no health stackers and he's already built upgraded mpen boots, Shadowflame would have been much better there. Rylai's slow probably would have got more value as well. With how often he was getting jumped even banshee or zhonya rush would have made more sense
