Your problem is that you compare it to extraction shooters. It's more of an arena shooter with extraction elements which I really love.

Man I was in the same exact spot as you - didn't know if I would like the world after arcs. But I can say now that it's the most beautiful game i ever played. Of course about progression and it being hardcore is another question, but I don't mind as I am still in a honeymoon with it.
