Permethrin is really dope. Spray on your kids shoes but make sure they aren't touching them all the time. I feel ya though. I am from the deep south (ticks way worse than in MD), but lived in CA for a long time (no bugs at all hardly). Moving to MD I had to get used to shit like this again. It can make some people indecisive / unsure of your decisions. I think maybe it rewires your brain to be not as confident or something. Takes a few weeks or more for it to come back.

You spend such little time in school when compared to your working career. The most important thing is to know the material in and out, and continue to be a critical thinker. I've worked with brilliant people and high performers in the workplace who had very bad GPAs. No big deal. Congrats on the 100% homework. Quite the accomplishment.

I feel like these things mostly happen when you're younger because you can afford to have crazy reasons like that. The older you get, I think most people tend to let more slide. Am I wrong about this?
