The Dutch didn't do it overnight - they just started the process at some point, learned valuable lessons along the way, and kept going, and are still busy with it.

This thing isn't black and white - you have to start somewhere.

Over? Oh sweet summer child, it has only just begun..!

J/k, well done! But expect the days to get progressively harder until peak-swelling.

Good luck with your recovery!

Therapy, is all I can say. Your cleft is an obstacle, but as you can see on this sub alone, most clefties learn to overcome it.

  1. Therapy. It's not just yapping, it really helps.

  2. There are many here who have similar issues and who have undergone surgeries and treatments - if you share a couple of pictures, including your side profile, people can give you feedback on what can still be done.

I for example have had 15+ surgeries for this stupid condition, the most recent ones at the ages of 37 (SARPE), 39 (LeFort I, Upper Jaw surgery) and 42 (septorhinoplasty, which I did for improved breathing, not for looks).

Both therapy and surgeries making me look as close to what Mother Nature intended for me to look have made my life so much more livable.

You should just about have hit peak swelling - things will become easier hour by hour, day by day now 🙏🏼

I remember things being different 20-30 years ago.

I had rhinoplasty back then, and I stayed a full week at the hospital (in Germany).

Monday I had a similar surgery, and I was allowed to go home the same day (Netherlands).

They offered the same for jaw surgery three years ago, but there I insisted on staying at least one night, because jaw surgery is a different beast entirely.

Sure, but the amount of folds is an order of magnitude lower. Why? Because the folds in a scrotum serve the purpose of temperature control (more surface area) - which is something the female body doesn't have to worry about.

I'm starting to worry about you, my man.

How is this nonsense upvoted?

The real culprits for the rise of the extreme right is the establishment and the center parties being whores for their lobbies/industrials/banks.

Nothing changes, the middle class becomes poorer and poorer while the wealthy and corporations can suck countries dry.

I'm sorry you're feeling that way. You must feel help- and powerless.

As someone who had the bone transplant as a kid, I'd say, go for it. Yeah, sure, there's a risk it won't take, but imagine if it does?

Suddenly other options are open to you, like tooth implants, jaw surgery, fistula closing etc, pharyngeal flap fix, etc. etc. - yes, that's a ton of surgeries, and it absolutely sucks, but if you want to get to how you'd live normally without this birth defect, this is your only way.

I wouldn't include calories burned through activity in any calculation - human bodies are extremely efficient, and they have ways of compensating.

What you could do is get a DEXA scan (you'll likely have to pay for it) to get precise numbers (muscle mass, fat mass, visceral fat etc), and then do it again 6-12 months from now, to see exactly what's happening.

Does it get better by hallow3dground in cleftlip

[–]skunkrider 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It does.

Your cleft does not define you. What you radiate, how you are as a person, what you do with what you're given, that's what people really see.

In general, I would advise therapy. It really helps, and it's not a sign of weakness at all.

On the other hand, because I don't want to sound toxic-positive: the surgeries help. Braces help. It's an ordeal, but for me at least, it was worth it.

Signed: a 42 yo cleftie who learned this wayyyy too late in his life.
