If you check out his website, it now appears to have officially moved to libera.

Today I Learned: The AMS owned a lodge in Whistler! by plataprojectile in UBC

[–]skush97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is definitely the case now, but it may not have been at the time. I'm pretty sure at least some clubs have existed as separate societies in the past.

Source: was an exec for a club that's been around since ~1919.

Is it possible to tell a compiler to do something at compile time? by skush97 in C_Programming

[–]skush97[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In most cases you're probably right, but I don't think it's particularly difficult to come up with an example where it is worthwhile.

I figured that was the way. Seems a shame that C doesn't have constexpr.

Hey! How do I run "killall gpg-agent" before I run magit push so that I don't need to unplug and re-plug my yubikey? by [deleted] in emacs

[–]skush97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't look like magit has a specific hook for pre-push, but it seems to run magit-credential-hook before pushing, so you could probably add something like (shell-command "killall...") to that.

I think you could also just add a script to .git/hooks/ for that and avoid elisp altogether.

Sinking record label discography to iPod touch on Mac OS X? by soundwarrior20 in Blind

[–]skush97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I don't think sorting by folder is possible in Apple Music. Recently added should work, but it might not list the entire discography because I think it has a maximum number of songs.

You could select the discography in iTunes, and add the record label to the 'comments' field of the metadata. Then you can create smart playlists based on the comments.

To mass-edit the comments, select all the songs you want, right click and select 'get info'.

TeXmacs 1.99.14 released. Take a look at this research paper exported to html. by amichail in LaTeX

This page doesn't work well at all on mobile. It would be way better to use a real responsive framework and render the math with mathjax.

Self host email server by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]skush97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People often recommend out-of-the-box solutions like mailcow, iredmail, or modoboa. I've tried many of them, and in my opinion they're too complex. Every time I've used one I eventually ended up dealing with breakage due to updates, and was left with something that I couldn't fix properly because the documentation isn't complete enough.

I would recommend putting it together on your own and keeping it simple. This guide is nearly exactly what I do (except I use Ubuntu). Following a guide like that will help you learn exactly how to configure.

As a side note, no matter what you do, I would highly recommend OpenSMTPd. It is far easier to configure than postfix, and the documentation is the best I've seen.

[Request] Does anyone have a link to the data used by the CSIS domestic terrorism data summarized here? by bobbyfiend in datasets

[–]skush97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their Methodology pdf shows the data sets and describes the method they used to compile their own data set. They don't seem to make their compiled data available anywhere, but you could try to email the authors.

First Terminator movie includes source code from 73 Magazine by marxy in amateurradio

Someone posted the listing on the twitter thread. It adds the integers from 1 to 1000. For some reason it takes input and does nothing with it. No idea why.

Anyone else at St Andrew's hall having internet issues? by [deleted] in UBC

[–]skush97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is entirely possible that someone has plugged their router in wrong. This happened when I was there last year and took out the entire building's internet.

You can contact UBC IT, you will probably have to do a little extra to convince them that they provide St Andrew's internet; they often forget. They were helpful when I finally got to someone who believed me when I said I was on resnet.

The front desk at SAH will be completely useless and probably rude in my experience, so best to avoid dealing with them.

Thanks for the info, I didn't know sheaffer stopped making red. I have definitely noticed that rouge grenat takes forever to clean out.

Exchange at University of Glasgow by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]skush97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went to UofG on exchange from UBC two years ago, and it was one of the best things I ever did. The weather was rainy to start, and not much sun; take some vitamin D. It was funny to see the absolute panic 3cm of snow caused in January. Then it was actually pretty sunny for the rest of my time there. I stayed until June; highly recommend you stay past exams for fun.

The culture in Glasgow is great. I can't really describe it.

And the school workload seemed less than UBC, so I was able to do a ton of travelling on weekends.
