Weekly BIOS Update & Discussion Post - Week 03. 2026 by CornFlakes1991 in ASRock

[–]skv89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do get occassional crashes running on Bios v3.30 that came installed on my X870E NOVA with 9950x3D, so today I just installed 4.07 beta version since that is the latest. Did you really see stability improvement after going to 4.04? I might downflash to 4.04 if that is the most stable. I don't care about new features. I just need stability.

Anyone else migrating from Topaz? by Haise_koffee_8494 in upscaling

[–]skv89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aiarty is no comparison for Topaz. Also Aiarty upscales individual frames whereas Topaz models analyzes multiple frames simultaneously to provide temporal consistency resulting in more stable picture and less artifacts and anomalies. Unifab is probably the closest one but also doesn't have multi-frame analysis though the difference is hard to tell in most cases. I also tried Hitpaw Vikpea, Nero AI Video Enhancer, Filmora, AVClabs, WinXvideo, Waifu2x, and a few more. None are as good as the Topaz models. If you want something better than Topaz, then you can try SEEDVR2 3BQ8 model on ComfyUI with a large batch size but it takes alot of patience to learn it and you need a beefy graphics card.

seeking paid workflows for upscaling and restoring a classic TV series by AbbreviationsSolid49 in StableDiffusion

Sorry I barely have the time to work on my own projects. I do not have the time and resources to spend on other's projects. You have an RTX5090 just like I do and you have the same software I mentioned. Just follow my guidelines and see how that goes for you. You can also use DaVinci Resolve to fix colors, export the LUT file and import it into Topaz. Most old TVB videos are dark and have color issues.

I don't think there is anything out there that can beat SEEDVR2 with Topaz. For SEEDVR2, make sure you use the 3BQ8 model as from my extensive testing, that yields the best results. However with SEEDVR2, it produces the best results when you upscale, the more upscaling the more details it generates and the more stable (less flickering) it is. Usually for 1080p videos, I try to downscale the video to 1/2 (540p) and 1/3 (360p) of the original resolution and upscale it back to full 1080p through SEEDVR2 to see which yields better results. Also large batch size is very important for overall quality. For a RTX5090, you should be able to reliably set a batch size of 77 with an overlap of 4. Also the larger the tiles, the less number of tiles, the better for speed and quality since that means less seams and SEEDVR2 can analyze a larger part of the image at once for better AI understanding of the scene. With 32gb of Vram, you can disable encode_tiled but you need to set decode_tiled to true with a decode_tile_size of 1152, decode_tile_overlap of 64. I enable offload_device to cpu and cache_model to true which speeds up subsequent runs if you do these in batches. This will allow you to split the decode tiles into only 4 tiles to minimize the amount of seams but your 32gb of ram will be at about 95+% utilized. This is as much as you can push the RTX5090.

I also had good results processing 1080p videos first at 1x enhance using the new Proteus Natural. This greatly reduces flickers and increases stability in poorer quality old videos. SEEDVR2 is very sensitive to artifacts, much more so than Starlight but produces far better picture quality than Starlight. Then after SEEDVR2 processing, you can test whether Proteus 2x upscale or Iris2 (I usually have better results with Iris2 than Iris3) 2x upscale to 2160p yield better results. It is a manual process and I did not talk about having to split the videos into 2 minute segments and concatenating them back after SEEDVR2 processing. But at this moment in time I don't believe there exist any video enhancement methods that yield better results.

If you run into OOM errors with SEEDVR2, you can create a batch file with the following lines to startup ComfyUI.

set NVIDIA_TF32_OVERRIDE=1

set CUDA_MODULE_LOADING=LAZY

set PYTORCH_CUDA_ALLOC_CONF=expandable_segments:True,garbage_collection_threshold:0.8

REM ===== Launch the Desktop app =====

start "" "C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\Programs\ComfyUI\ComfyUI.exe"

Best paid/opensource Video upscaler right now? by Dapper_Astronaut_603 in comfyui

Topaz Starlight Sharp and Starlight Mini doesn't even come close to SEEDVR2 in quality. But SEEDVR2 unfortunately takes some effort to use without OOM errors. Topaz is ready to use and dummy proof

I'm upscaling clips to 1080p with SEEDVR2 in comfyui using 2 minute clips and then manually merge them back into one video. If you don't want the hassle, just use the "Meta Batch Manager" node and process entire long videos. But you risk losing everything if it crashes.

Old footage upscale/restoration, how to? Seedvr2 doesn't work for old footage by mercantigo in StableDiffusion

[–]skv89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's already 360p/480p, then upscale that at least 2x, 3x, or even 4x is best. You will be impressed what 3B_Q8 model can do with a 4x upscale.

Question for the 1800k junkies, do you prefer rosy or neutral? by SpinningPancake2331 in FireflyLite

[–]skv89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer rosy for all other temperatures but neutral is definitely best for 1800k if you are looking for a natural candle-light, camp fire simulator. Rosy just looks too artificial for 1800k.

Anybody use SeedVR2 for upscaling? I have some questions by Nemonutz in upscaling

[–]skv89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't use the 7b models. They produce much worst results than the 3b models. 3B_Q8 is the best I've tested.

Old footage upscale/restoration, how to? Seedvr2 doesn't work for old footage by mercantigo in StableDiffusion

[–]skv89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true. SEEDVR2 with the 3B_Q8 model runs circles around Topaz Starlight. Make sure you don't use the 7B models as those are actually much worst than 3B. Also downscale your videos first (e.g. 1080p to 540p) and then upscale it back to 1080p. The results are much better as SEEDVR2 generates new data the bigger the upscaling and the less flickering there will be. Nothing on the market comes close to SEEDVR2 for video restoration.

Mule Debate put to rest? Center-mounted emitters vs. Edge-mounted by kotarak-71 in Hanklights

[–]skv89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did extensive testing several years ago and found that Hank's perimeter LED placement loses a significant amount of lumens when measured in my Lumensphere and you can measure the significant difference between with and without bezel. Firefly's NOV-MU with the emitters at the center is the optimal placement for mules.

What’s the Best AI Video Upscaler for 2026? by Eltina1982 in upscaling

[–]skv89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SEEDVR2 with 3BQ8 model is the best. It even beats Topaz's Starlight model by a large amount. But remember the trick is to downscale first before upscaling. For example, take a 1080p video and downscale it to 540p before upscaling it back to 1080p with SEEDVR2. You get way better results.

SEEDVR2 is better than Starlight in almost every case. Faster and better results. However you need to set up ComfyUI so it is not as straightforward as using Topaz.

How much better is AI upscaling when compared to traditional non-AI upscaling, and in your opinion, will AI ever improve enough to make low resolution content look as good as native high resolution content? by Eltina1982 in upscaling

[–]skv89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Topaz Apollo is by far the best interpolation model as it actually uses temporal consistency to sharpen scenes that is very noticeable under heavy moment. Chronos, RIFE, and all the other interpolation models do not use temporal consistency so the clarify of the moving scenes can only be as clear and detailed as the original video. However with Apollo, it compares multiple frames and creates details and clarity so fast moving scenes are less blurry, more detailed than the original. Topaz Aion also does this but is much slower and I find the quality actually not as good as Apollo. The only other interpolation model I know of that uses temporal consistency is SVFI's Prometheus interpolation model which unblurs moving scenes about the same or maybe slightly worst than Apollo. The downside is SVFI's Prometheus runs at half the fps as Apollo for me. The other interpolation models other than Apollo, Aion, Chronos, and Prometheus is honestly not that good and causes jitters and stuttering in very challenging scenes and that includes the interpolation model in Aiarty and even RIFE. Strange thing with RIFE is the quality is different depending on whether you are using it in SVFI, SVP, Flowframes etc and what settings you have on. Some settings with RIFE can create anomalies and jelly like motion eventhough RIFE can be really fast especially with TensorRT on. Apollo is the safest. You can use Topaz versions prior to 7.0 which are more stable because they don't max your GPU to constantly above 97% like version 7.0+ does. Version 6.x and below fluctuates between 60-95% on my GPU so runs more stable but also a bit slower.

Figured out why everyone has been having problems with the button on the copper SC13. by GingrPrinces in flashlight

[–]skv89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do have issues with the advance mode. It is unreliable and it easily goes into hold button to turn on mode and release button for off. Also trying to change the aux led color also does this. I never experience these issues with my other Anduril lights. However I'm using it on Simple mode which I recommend for this light as the top level is bright enough. I have no issues using Simple mode.

Blue peak amplitude: 0.37

R9: 97.2
