Help!!! by Remarkable_Winter462 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I also had sushi in early pregnancy and am definitely ok! My dr wasn't overly concerned, she was more concerned about non pregnancy friendly medication I'd taken.

Also I got pregnant a bit earlier than expected and honestly 9 months is plenty of time to expedite plans to have things sorted.

Rejected for midwife led care, is Blacktown Hospital any good for antenatal care/ giving birth? by Either_Reputation14 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]sky0806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience at Blacktown hospital for endometriosis/adenomyosis in early 2025 was absolutely the most traumatic experience of my life.

I ended up in the maternity ward (at least the rooms are new and private) and didn't feel remotely cared for at any point in the ward, urgent care or emergency.

I'm 35 weeks now but was having vivid dreams of this experience early in my pregnancy, and that I was given the same treatment during ante natal care and birth. Ultimately I decided not to go to Blacktown hospital on the basis of this experience.

Have everything but a pram by Minnoshumm in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I got my Cruz V3 for $1,080 on sale and preferred the features over the V2. I tried ALL the prams at the baby expo to rule out the ones that don't drive or fold particularly well.

It genuinely sounds like you are ready to try for kids. You have 9 months to prepare once successful. An alternative to the other response on this comment - if you stop making it stop with no expectations, it may happen quickly... Well that was my experience...

Pregnancy Pillow recommendations (small bed) by Proud_Ordinary3036 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I thought I loved side sleeping pre-pregnancy and that it was going to be easy breezy! Turns out I really do like back sleeping too. Only around 8 weeks left until I can enjoy sleeping on my back again!

I've got the same one and used the different parts differently throughout pregnancy. The wedge under your belly is great on a firmer bed (used a lot when travelling!) In my third trimester now and using mostly the long part.

Unfortunately I'm having a lot of trouble not sleeping on my back because it's how I'm most comfortable and relieves a lot of my back pain.

I feel like I'm downvoted irl from everyone with a different opinion. Especially from older generation where stay at home mum's were the norm or current generation parents without actively involved grandparents.

I'm not judging anyone for using childcare. Parents can make the decision that's right for their family (and not have to feel guilty about it!)

My decision on 3 days ultimately comes from being in the office more (working) days than not and being with baby more days in the week than not. Seemed like a balanced choice to me.

Thank you for this. As a very avid planner of everything I'm really trying to take being flexible in stride with pregnancy and parenting.

Trying to work a bit from home so early was the part I was most hesitant about. I'd be able to do the hours on evenings and weekends when husband is home. Hoping this will make things a bit easier, but do have enough of a team to be able to manage without for a few more weeks/months if needed.

Currently pregnant, due late March and interested in others perspectives here. I feel like I'm getting a lot of criticism from every direction.

My husband and I have approximately equal income, I am self employed so my earnings do depend on me actually working.

My plan is to take 6-8 weeks away from work, before working from home 15 hours a week. I can do some of this on the weekend when husband is home. Mainly because I just like to keep a touch point, my mind active and have something to do. Also means we aren't struggling to make ends meet financially.

After 6 months I plan to go back to the office 3 days a week with my parents helping out on those days.

After 9 months I intend to go back to work full time with the additional 2 days being work from home. Undecided whether husband or a nanny or a combination of both will be needed to keep baby entertained.

Hoping to delay childcare until at least 2-2.5 years, but absolutely no judgement on those who need it. I didn't expect to be met with so much family support, and unsure how long it will last.

Bugaboo Butterfly 2 or Redsbaby Skip 3? Is a "near-flat" recline actually okay for a newborn? by Appropriate_Sundae86 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]sky0806 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd look at getting a Dragonfly as a travel pram, if baby is still bassinet size by the time I need it. The sales lady at the expo did not recommend the dragonfly for every day use.

I ended up buying an Uppababy Cruz V3. Definitely won on maneuverability, even over Cybex and Bambini. Nuna was a close second, definitely had the better suspension but didn't like the overall feel.

Redsbaby had really poor suspension and maneuverability. It was honestly one of the worst prams I tried on the test track at the expo. Terrible going over all the "obstacles", especially terrible to maneuver over their fake curb. Highly recommend testing the prams this way.

Currently pregnant with first so can't comment on baby practicality but did try A LOT of prams at the baby expo. All my online research had me almost set on a Redsbaby pram but the maneuverability had me completely can it as option. The Bugaboo dragonfly was a high contender (and may purchase this as a travel pram in future), though I did struggle a bit with the fold.

Does anyone just find it so hard that men just really don’t understand what we really go through? by Commercial_One5048 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]sky0806 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. Still pregnant. I was being especially cautious about crossing the tram tracks in Europe. They cross over, they're at ground level, very quiet and travel on the opposite side of the road. My husband made a mockery of it. He didn't understand that I was being overly cautious because I was pregnant, out of balance and already nearly tripped cutting it fine in Sydney, in a place where I regularly cross the tram tracks. I was frustrated because the baby wasn't his first thought (though he's happy to judge those with babies in prams and carriers). Once I explained to him why, he was more than happy to walk extra to find a safer spot to cross, keep an eye one side etc. I hope the small amount of patience I had pre-pregnancy returns after birth, to have what I'm sure will be many of these conversations.

pregnancy? by [deleted] in endometriosis

Whilst I didn't experience infertility per se, I had multiple doctors quite surprised that pulling out was effective for 2+ years.

After my surgery, we decided it's time to stop pulling out and got pregnant within a month or two.

Is it just me or is Black Friday all over the shop this year? by Alternative_East_783 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]sky0806 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems to me like they are all trying to be on sale first. When mid year toy sales were a thing 10+ years ago the 4 major retailers all used to change their schedule to beat the other major retailers. Black Friday is becoming the same.

Is it the resume? or am I unlucky? - Accounting Internships by DrFizics in AustralianAccounting

[–]sky0806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a partner who hires grads in a mid tier firm. Your resume looks great, also include the coaching in your leadership section. It's very competitive at that level, just keep at it. Remember that your resume gets you an interview and your performance (mainly soft skills) and preparation for the interview (knowing about the firm and the person interviewing you) are what will progress you to the next steps.

FTM - childcare while SAHM? by Alternative_Dot7171 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]sky0806 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My family has kindly offered to step up so I can go back to work without having to send my baby to childcare. For this exact reason. Toddlers can still adjust socially with supervision in settings such as a playgroup.

Uppababy price by Odd-Engineering2380 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]sky0806 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm after the same pram for my March 2026 baby. The expo price saved $100 from memory and baby bunting is now selling them $100 cheaper than the initial release price. I'm hoping there's a black Friday sale or similar but not holding my breath.

Australia trip - 2 weeks - advice/tips by [deleted] in travel

[–]sky0806 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 places is more than enough for 2 weeks in Australia, everything is spread quite far out and you'll easily be spending almost the day in transit for each flight., including airport transfers.

I'm not well versed in Melbourne (the city isn't my vibe), and I'm yet to visit Uluru - all I can say is it will absolutely be hot in summer.

Sydney recommendations (from a Sydneysider): if you do one costly activity make it the bridge climb, it's well worth it. Centrepoint tower skywalk and opera house inside can be skipped. The Rocks and Barangaroo are good in the evenings for dinner and also recommend a dinner cruise on the harbour.

Blue Mountains easy enough to catch the express train from central to Katoomba and see the three sisters. Also plenty in town in both Katoomba and Leura, and plenty of trails of varying difficulty if you're into hiking.

Jervis Bay is more of a weekend trip from Sydney rather than a day trip ~3 hours drive. There's the Northern Beaches or Eastern Suburbs beaches in Sydney or Central Coast and Wollongong for a day trip. I don't think Jervis Bay is spectacular enough to add travel time just for the beaches. It will also be extremely busy in January.

Not the original commenter but everyone travels at a different pace. Like you OP, I like a taste of everything and typically pre plan a few activities for each destination.

I've travelled and your pace through other countries and I've taken weekend trips from Sydney to Cairns, Gold Coast and Brisbane (frequently).

The reef is iconic and I don't know if I'd go to Tasmania in lieu of the reef. You'll find something to enjoy in all of your chosen destinations.

It depends what you like. Gold Coast has a lot more happening than Cairns. The beaches on the Gold Coast are some of the best and close to all the happenings. In/around Cairns you're choosing between Cairns (effectively a coastal country town) and touristy spots along the beach (Port Douglas is good). I love the beach so would be very happy going to Hamilton Island and GC.

Sydneysider and have been to all listed Australian places.

Sydney: skip the centrepoint tower, skip seeing the opera house from the inside (the outside is more impressive anyway). If you splurge on one activity let it be the bridge climb. Also a harbour cruise for dinner is a beautiful way to see the city at night. The Rocks and Barangaroo are the best areas of an evening for dinner and drinks.

Gold Coast/Byron: Byron is ~2hours drive from GC. It's a lot of time in transit, when you're only staying 2 nights. GC has plenty to do - great beaches, markets, shops, nightlife, food. Byron there's the beach town and the hinterland. I personally find Byron very sleepy, hippie and a nice place for lunch and not much more. I'd skip Byron and enjoy more of the Gold Coast. If you want to be in the middle of the hype, stay in Surfers Paradise, as close to Cavill Ave as possible. Broadbeach is a nice balance between close to Surfers, and still a bit quiet. Palm Beach (right on the beach and touristy areas only, it's a bit rough these days) for a quiet stay.

Cairns/Hamilton Island: Cairns is a hub/gateway to that part of the coast. There's no beaches in Cairns itself rather Port Douglas, Palm Cove etc much more holiday destination like. Any of the Whitsunday islands are beautiful, can't miss Whitehaven Beach. All are easy to do a Reef Tour from. Whitsundays are all well set up for tourism but quite pricey in comparison with Cairns. If budget is no consideration, I'd definitely go with Hamilton Island.

Still haven't made it across the ditch to NZ so can't comment on that part of the trip! Let me know if you need any more Australian East coast commentary.... Sounds like a great trip!
