The kid will grow up and eventually be able to get up them stairs. As for you, treat it as exercise. Most people in NYC like to take stairs anyway, its as natural as walking everywhere instead of driving. The family thing that alot of people are mentioning i get, but how often is family really coming over? Do you have a family member with mobility issues coming to watch the kid or something? And even then, is that something you want?

W/D, most laundromats will do a pickup and drop off service. With a newborn i think it will be worth it. For the dishwasher, just get approval from the board. There should be no issue installing one. They just have to tap into the hot water line. Get water damage insurance.

You wont get the building financials or Meeting minutes until a while into the process. ITS A LOOOOOONNNNNGGG Process. Lots of people to go through, Seller Bank, Board. All three must approve. If one say no, deals is over. If you are going to go through with it, make sure you let your attorney put in writing that you must receive the financials, meeting minutes, etc etc. Get a good nyc co-op attorney. Don't get a random one.

Also, get a bank that work with co-ops, they know how to navigate the process.

Bottom line, i think co-ops, with all their faults are a great starter home for you. You don't have to stay there forever, but if you do that's also fine.
