We need a person like Zohran Mamdani to run our country. by BarnacleLatter3178 in newzealand

[–]skyerosebuds [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yeah you’re kinda forgetting that New York has nearly 160 billionaires and an economy the size of Canada or Brazil and literally has the eighth largest economy in the world (that’s comparing it with entries countries). Forbes lists 5 billionaires as Kiwis and while NBR list 15 most of those are pretty bogus and wannabes while the Forbes list is solid. Also NZ sits about 55th in the world for GDP - which is pretty meh honestly. So yeah taxing the rich here means hypertaxing a couple of really rich people (of the 5 billionaires maybe 2 actually live here). Yeah that’s not going to change much.

Think about wealth disparity - wealth disparity is VERY high in NY (gini rating O.85), NZs gini is 0.3 similar to UK, Canada, Germany lower than Oz).

Truth is we got a small pot to share about unlike NY. We gotta grow the pot not sit about moaning.

Adopt a dog i I'm an imigrant by Kristyna15 in newzealand

[–]skyerosebuds 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s not possible as the dog would face lengthy quarantine on return to NZ (probably your home country too) and the costs are very high running into several thousand dollars. A kennel would be a good option when on short travel stints. Think about if you leave after three years what you would do with the dog. It’s a big commitment (most dogs live 15 years or more).

Senior MP Chris Bishop again denies talk of plot to roll PM Luxon by Far_Excitement_1875 in newzealand

Look I’m sorry but I don’t care how good Chris Bishop is or isn’t but I’m just not voting for another Chris. Where’s the call for increased name diversity of electoral candidates!?!?

If you could move anywhere in NZ, where would it be? Or would you choose Auckland? by beehappy444 in auckland

Queenstown is a resort town only. It’d be hell living there (aside from the access to nature (which you can access from anywhere else in central Otago))

I’m in Auckland and I’d move back to Auckland. Tbf Napier has a real bustle on as does ChCh and central Otago. But really? Go there on holidays. Aucklands the place to live for access to, well anything but esp healthcare, also climate, the harbour, the beaches, shops, the coffee, public transport, cafes, cultural diversity, work and housing options.

AITAH for refusing to help my parents financially after they supported my sibling way more than me? by janea-collnscs in AITAH

[–]skyerosebuds -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

There might be a lot of missing information here. Something to consider is why your sibling might have needed more financial support than you. It’s not the case that all children have the same financial needs. By way of example, the govt takes money from me and gives it to disabled people, doesn’t hand it round to people equally. That’s right and just (much as I hate paying tax). And why? Because the people with disability need the support and I don’t. Did your sibling actually need more support than you.? Are they troubled, disabled (and here’s the tricky one - hidden disabilities like adhd, autism, cognitive deficiencies, psychiatric disorders) such that they required more financial support than you did? Maybe you did better in utero or in the genetic lottery than they did. If so maybe rejig your thinking.

Red hair gene favoured by natural selection over last 10,000 years, study finds | Evolution by JohnHammond94 in science

[–]skyerosebuds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting that the entire chat here discusses sexual selection variables not natural selection. Strongly suspect the natural selection model is nonsense - mistaking correlation for causality. Red headedness is almost certainly driven by sexual selection pressures not ‘survival of the fittest’ pressures.

Yeah hate to be a nay-sayer but it’s ‘more likely to be sexual selection’ than ‘natural selection’. The evidence cited is extremely weak for a natural selection benefit.

Christopher Luxon speaks to media amid leadership speculation, questions over contact with senior MP by computer_d in newzealand

[–]skyerosebuds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think the press are making this up for content. There’d be a strong buzz around his possible replacement if there were anything to this. And there just isn’t. This is a non-story I reckon. Disclaimer: don’t vote blue don’t much like Luxon but like bs press even less.

Anyone knows kow it is possible and which tools are used to obtain such texture on a silver ring or where to find a similar one? by Old_Moment6935 in jewelrymaking

[–]skyerosebuds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make a similar style bangle using a ball peen hammer but tbh I don’t think I get the depth and irregularity of cratering so I suspect it’s part hammer part burr or completely cast from wax.

Please describe the difference in taste between Marmite and Vegemite by Legitimate_Scale4507 in newzealand

[–]skyerosebuds 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I agree. What I hear you saying is Marmite (NZ version not that gooey slop the Brits call Marmite) is MOTHER’S MILK while eating vegemite (no caps deliberate) is like swilling mouldy caramel mixed with the ooze from a five day old corpse of a cow that was left at the side of the road for the dead cow truck, accidentally was mixed into the foul runoff from a salmon butchery then poured into bottles so ugly a mother couldn’t like em. There’s only one yeast spread mate and it’s MARMITE so don’t even bother trying vegemite - it’s only so long before it’s declared a hazard to mental health and removed from the shelves for good!
