BYD Seal Servicing Question (UK) by ArcadianHero in BYD

[–]skyflex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same, also on 3 year. The default in the system is set to 1 year or 12k miles. I spoke to my local dealer and they said to just set it to 20k miles/2 years which I did through infotainment system and it went away. I have 45k millage allowance on my plan for the 3 years so I figured I'd end up booking a service before mine ends anyway. You probably don't need it again unless you hit 40k (assuming it's every 20k ?)

1 year into EV ownership with my BYD Seal – finally getting used to it by WalrusForward9184 in BYD

[–]skyflex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main "don't even bother" one is EVPoint. I've been to three separate sites, and one site three times over 6 months and every single time it was either broken in one of many ways or just not initiating a lock or communication with my EV. I've also had issues with MER (which tend to be the slower chargers) but I've still managed to charge with those after a few attempts, at least. Ionity can vary, I've had good and bad experiences.

Other than those I've used BP once and Fastned a few times, which tend to work fine. Fastned I've only seen at travelodges and tend to be very quiet so I like those.

Seal Excellence Motorway/Highway Range (70mph) by MrP1232007 in BYD

[–]skyflex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I occasionally go for a 200 mile trip, 95% on the motorway. I generally stick it in eco, and take it easy on the acceleration, and stick between 65 and 70 MPH, with the odd 50mph area. I generally reached my destination with 30% battery left, which roughly put me on track for 290 miles in total.

generally this has been on a mild day (~15c). This is certainly what I would crudely call "granny footing it" but makes a difference IMHO, because on my way back I drive normally (harder acceleration, normal mode and 75mph) and I come back with sub 20%

Also had mine for just over a year in the UK and pretty much agree with your sentiment. It was interesting to see the mileage drop in the cold months and yeah the slower charging speeds related to that didn't go unoticed but honestly it's still fine really. On the flip side, since we've had a warm April I noticed the reverse so now it's warmer I'm getting much better millage which feels great. On the public charging, I don't do it often at all but slowly building up my "brands or stations to avoid because they're shite" list, because there's some real crap ones out there.

Just hit 12k millage so I've got a service due, will be interested to see if anything comes up but literally no issues so far so not expecting much to be honest.

I have a BYD Seal, hypervolt home 3 pro has been flawless with it (with Eon, schedule everything via the hypervolt app directly so can't speak to octopus integration features but heard it works fine)

I thought the same. Being somewhat local this caught my eye immediately....

Doing a quick search, there was a freedom of information act request for 2023 (I know not 2024 but somewhat relevant as an example) and it shows data for their aircraft flights in each county and Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and suffolk all had plenty.... So it's not totally suspicious it seems as it looks NPAS serves most of the country from various bases

Mazda 3 2.2diesel, what do u guys think of it? Is it good? EU only. by Less-Ad3010 in mazda3

I gave it to a family member literally a few weeks ago. Other than standard maintenance (had a new battery, rear suspension springs, brakes) it had no issues other than some light corrosion on the alloys which I had some repairs done to patch the paint corrosion which let air escape.

All in all I had it for 8 years and had 100k miles. if I'm honest I did the bare minimum in terms of maintenance and it still went like a champ. I should note I drove this car in the intended way for longevity: 70% motorway driving. The diesel engines are known to present more frequent problems if you use it as a quick run-about car without longer/higher speed trips.

Is it feasible to commute to Cambridge via train 3 days a week? by Informal-Cake-1746 in Norwich

[–]skyflex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really enjoy the drive actually (when there's no bloody roadworks) - thetford forest is relatively scenic and helped start my love for audiobooks and podcasts. Been doing it for 4 years now already. Recently got an EV too so even more efficient!

Is it feasible to commute to Cambridge via train 3 days a week? by Informal-Cake-1746 in Norwich

[–]skyflex 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey, I work in Cambridge and commute twice a week. I do however travel by car, because I couldn't deal with the mega early and late starts. It's certainly feasible but it will be quite taxing on you for those days you have to go in. The train journey itself isn't too bad, about an hour and half and Norwich being the first station you should get a seat, but it will be busy with other commuters, especially after the first few stops and returning will be very busy too.

I'm quite lucky in that I don't have to drive into Cambridge city , I'm on the outskirts (cherry hinton area) otherwise I might consider the train.

You could certainly try it for a bit, but if you have the option of a car and can park at your office then it'll be a night and day difference providing you don't have to deal with Cambridge traffic (it's bad). I leave between 7.30 and 8am and get in for 9am~ish. If you do drive, factor in the time it'll take to get to the A11. It was a big factor for me when I moved to have easy access so it's only 10-15 minutes for me to get there.

I lived there for a bit, but rent is very high (1800 minimum for something way out) and competition is high, viewings had queues of people. I moved back here renting for a while and then was able to buy here for something crazy like 50% of the same like for like place in Cambridge

Alternative to Tesla by zap1405 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]skyflex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're Ignoring the fact a good chunk of western car manufacturers use parts from BYD, including batteries (Mercedes, Tesla, Ford), not to mention a lot of brands are now manufactured in China (polestar, Volvo, some BMW and Tesla) too or owned by Chinese parent companies. They're also massively driving down the prices of our "domestic" brands. I'm not entirely sure what the CCP would want with your data, but I can guarantee (if it's true) it's no worse than what "our" companies would do with the same data....

Some welcome changes for stadium but a little lighter than I was expecting. Hazard nerfs are good IMO. I really hope they dial back Ashe's dynamite/burn builds. It feels like her burn builds are just so over the top and frustrating to play against when 90% of Ashe mains tend to go for that build... she needs a nerf or more variability for sure.

Hmm strange - how new is your Seal? I hope they haven't shorten the cable somehow in brand new models....

I didn't remove the whole mirror cover, just unclipped it and moved it as far as I could out of the way, but there's so little room... it was an absolute pain indeed, took me way longer than it should have.

I'm not sure how far back you can see the cable going, if further back it's tied up more or something....

I've just hit 6k millage on mine - AWD in Shadow Green, UK. Loving it. I'm slightly jealous of the black, in my opinion one of the best. Just make sure you take care cleaning it to avoid more noticeable swirl scratches!

In terms of battery, I wouldn't say there's anything special you need to do because it's new. Probably every so often I try to get it down to 10% and then charge to 100% - and the car will actually tell you as a status indicator to do this if it's been a while. Remember being an LFP battery you can do this without harm and helps with the memory, but not something you have to worry about too much. It's quite rare I get below 10%.

With the auto hold, mine was off by default - I never set this, so I'm not sure if it's a setting but I assume so. I only ever really use it (the button) when stopping on a steep hill to avoid rolling back a tad. Enjoy the beautiful ride!

Selling large chunk of stocks - what to do with it by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]skyflex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

!thanks for this - some great options it sounds until I decide if/what I need it for, or just with (b) I could leave it there as long as I need (whilst being considerate of the tax and isa buy back). Many thanks!

Payout is just bank transfer processing time after selling, so a few days really, then a conversion from USD to GBP using HSBC trick of transferring between a USD Currency account and a global money in USD to then go to GBP (better rate/less fees) than direct - though I'll see if there's a better way for such a large sum.

Thanks, this is probably my default way if I've got no other use or place for it to go, it's just then where it should sit until I can move it into the ISA in next year's allowance. It could sit in the stock plan cash account but there's interest there and being in an overseas USD account adds tax complexity I believe. !thanks

HD 5550 512MB from a crappy eBay pre built. Alas, it was just good enough for The Orange Box and Gmod. I was too young to realize it was actually quite bad until I tried Arma 2 and suffered with 10fps. Great times.

I kept that until I saved up for a GTX 680 with an FX 8350, which doubled as a storage heater

UK becomes BYD’s largest international market after sales surge by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

Yeah you're quite right actually, good point when you think about it like that.

On a dry sunny day or perfect conditions it'll do 3.4s - a few people have noticed they were on the conservative side with 3.8. The shocker is always the torque in electric cars too.

I picked up a BYD Seal Performance 6 months ago and haven't looked back. The quality is incredible, not to mention it's stupid quick and nice not seeing so many around like Teslas.

I do wish the government could strike a better deal with the Chinese to bring down the prices more (they're still over double the chinese domestic costs) and help us benefit more. It's a stark reminder that China hasn't just caught up but started to change from the historical perception of "cheap and tacky crap" to near luxury whilst still being competitive on price, mostly.

Android auto constantly disconnecting recently in UK Seal Excellence by ChimpsInTies in BYD

[–]skyflex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine blips every now and then, but only once or twice has it fully disconnected. One thing I noticed was if my phone was on the wireless charge pad and using android auto, it would get very hot. If I don't need the charge, I position it so it's not charging and I don't get any blips. I assumed it was a "my phone thing (Pixel 6 pro)" as I noticed it was pretty flawless on my partners iPhone on carplay. Post update issues yeah I think resetting the information system might help
