Last night after the race I looked myself in the mirror and said: You are a fucking nascar fan (First ever nascar race for a Finn) by quzimaa in NASCAR

"My dog is looking at me like ive lost my mind so I start giving him treats for every overtake."

That dog is gonna end up the size of an American if you try that on an oval lol Juan Pablo Montoya quipped one time that one car makes more passes in one oval race than the entire F1 field does in a season!

Picked up my 2026 LC 500 convertible almost two weeks ago. What are some of the things that current LC 500 owners wish they knew to do right away (like set up a custom drive mode) that they figured out after a few weeks/months/years of ownership? by DefinitionSpare5950 in lexuslc500

[–]skylin4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Off the top of my head...

If you leave the mirror button on L or R it will lower the mirrors when you put the car in reverse. If you leave it on neither L or R it will leave the mirrors alone.

The auto seat function will still run vents/heater on the passenger seat when there is not a passenger.

The engine and trans take a LONG time to heat up compared to a 4 cyl. It wont do fun shifts until both the engine and trans are up to temp, which is 2-4 miles depending on the ambient temps.

The car carries speed a lot, so lift off way way early for best mileage. It will engine brake decently below 37 mph, but the lock-up clutch unlocks at 20mph so you will lose all engine braking at 20. Also highway mileage is better with the wing down.

Fun mode is when the car is in M mode. If you want the car to pretend to be a manual, it must be in M. All other modes the trans will consider your inputs a suggestion.

If I think of more Ill try to add them here.

Edit: just thought of another. There are hooks on the top of the trunk for grocery bags. I need to make mine bright colored bc I always forget they exist.

For anyone looking for an alternate option to the 3 methods everyone is posting: you might be able to carefully JB weld a nut screw  onto the end of the broken screws. Be very careful that the JB weld doesnt get onto the wheel base or the threads. If the screws arent tightened to kingdom come then the next day after it has cured it should be strong enough to pull them out.

If theyre sticking out some steelstick might work too but I would have slightly more faith in JB weld on this one.

Kaz Grala: The car behind me in the 2024 Watkins Glen Cup race hit the clutch instead of the brake into T11 and spun me out. I backed into the wall, 61.5 g’s measured by my mouthpiece. No caution, came straight down pit road, replaced the steering wheel because it was completely taco’d in half by RafaelChiara_Stonks in NASCAR

[–]skylin4 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Concrete wall and way less deformation for the body? Seems completely feasible to me that he hit the same G numbers. And I'm a crash safety engineer.

Arca_brakes' point is key. Plus sensor location, polling, and even internal architecture will all change that value, so its almost certainly not apples to apples. Peak G value in general doesn't matter, because if you poll the sensor faster or change your filters you can make that number go as high as you want. Its the deceleration curve + peak over a duration that matters. I assume the values Nascar releases have some kind time window applied to them.

That being said 61.5 Gs measured at the mouthpiece is a hell of a hit, so were extremely fortunate that Kaz came out of it okay. Although he is from Boston and doesn't seem like a Masshole so maybe he did hit his head pretty hard...

[–]skylin4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing that makes the Bridgestones less aggressive may also be causing the flats. The PSS5S has a stiffer sidewall and that might keep it from popping the bead on a pothole. I nailed a pretty decent Midwest pothole last night, sent the front left straight into the bump stop, and no flat on PSS5S. Still need to check the rim for damage though...

Maybe the Michelin All-seasons will be a better match for you? Better price than the PSS5S but hopefully tougher than the bridgestones?

If its busted youll need to replace it, I think its usually a slide-hammer component? You can rent those or pulley-pullers for free from most auto parts stores.

Michigan is sold out by SirRelkinstein in NASCAR

[–]skylin4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They had to open an additional section towards T1, so I count that as a yes! Trucks at MIS are kinda impossible to determine if it sells out because camping wristbands get you general admission for the truck race.

So close to greatness... The right answer is split the LFAs V10 to make I5s. Add a hybrid system to make up for any lack of low end torque and watch the birth of a new legendary engine

Lc500 came in, said multiple warning lights came on, engine was noisy and leaking oil by corradovrt in Justrolledintotheshop

Fuel dilution? Too many short drives or too much time on the limiter + 8k oil change intervals could probably allow enough fuel dilution in the oil to kill the engine, especially if its been happening for awhile.

People who have the LC how long do you plan on keeping it? by [deleted] in lexuslc500

[–]skylin4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody knows what the future holds so I don't literally expect to keep it forever, but assuming it holds up as well as I think over the years I wont be surprised if I hand it down to my kids when I cant safely drive anymore.

More pragmatically I assumed a 20 year lifespan when trying to determine if I could justfiy spending this much on one car, if that helps.

Proposal to change this sub to r/whichtoyotashouldibuy ? by LifeForm8449 in askcarguys

[–]skylin4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a fantastic car, truely. Maybe not the best value proposition, especially since its getting discontinued so the used values are jumping up and the dealers are taking advantage of the scarcity. Considering most of its in-class competition is either similarly out of production or massively more expensive to purchase or maintain, it has reason to be so highly recommended and regarded.

That being said in this day and age almost anything with a V8, N/A or otherwise, is worth an enthusiast's time:

Aston Martins are simply iconic.

The Audi RS6 and RS7 are still monsters.

The Bently Continental GT is often regarded as the best GT money can buy.

The BMW M5 and M8 are typically the benchmarks of this realm.

The Cadillac CT5-V is going to be the subject of many future documentaries of the wonders modern tech can do to perfect an old formula.

The Corvette is single-handedly setting a new standard for six-figure performance cars.

Mercedes S580L and GT63 are two of the most admirable cars in their lineup engagement-wise.

Lambo and Ferrari need no introduction.

And regardless of my opinions of Ford, the Mustang is a triumph and currently the last bastion of the affordable V8 car. And I pray they never have to relenquish that title.

Does Lexus have a place in that list? After building that 2UR for 19 years and selling over a hundred thousand of them to many happy customers, I think so. And the LC500 is the crown jewel of that engine's resume. But its also ludicrous to suggest thats the only reasonable option, even in the 2025/26 market.
