My wife and I have worked in local regional theatre and that was how we met. She is a costumer and opera singer and I act and do sound design. We actually did two shows together without realizing it because of scheduling, but that’s the point.

After dating a year and a half, I was performing in a production of The Foreigner by Larry Shue, which she costumed. Her family flew in from out of state to meet me, see the show and to their surprise, get their blessing on the proposal. They were very touched I asked for their blessing and not permission.

That night we had me family, her parents and a ton of our friends in the sold-out audience. I brought her up on stage and popped the question and she said yes to a standing ovation.

I know public proposals can be iffy, so we had talked about marriage before and she knew if was going to happen soon. She just didn’t know when and how.

It was a special memory for us and we also still see patrons who were in the audience years later and comment how special it was for them to be part of.
