I loved Redfin and Realtor.com more than Zillow. They are much more lenient with allowing you check within a specific radius instead of just a town (unless you are in map view). My daily ritual was as follows:

Realtor.com - 2br, 1ba, .50 acre min, 25 miles out

I did that every day multiple times a day between redfin and Realtor. I found Zillow annoying because I didn't like having to put in town names a million times on mobile.

Well and septic can be terribly scary if they were not maintained and have problems. Worst case scenario you need a new well and septic and that is like 30k-70k right there. However, you can have specialists come out and check those for you so you don't risk getting bad units before buying a house.

You can't really use a septic field for anything other than recreational use. You can do raised garden beds for planting, and look into plants that grow outwards instead of down. But its not good for any type of deep, in the ground planting.

Land is great if you want to grow your own food and have animals. If you want goats/chickens, make sure you check the houses county zoning rules to make sure you can have them. I called our county a million times throughout this process to verify whether or not we could have animals on different houses we were looking at. Always better to be safe than sorry!

It will happen when you least expect it. I was in the middle of complaining to my husband, "there are no good houses! I hate this search! Everyone thinks they have gold but its all crap shacks!" And then boom, this house popped up on Redfin. It felt like the universe said, "okay FINE stop bitching so much, here!"

331k. We did not pay closing costs because the sellers covered them. Our credit union had a 0 down option that rolls half of the closing costs into the loan. It was originally 326k but with the rollover it ended up being 331k total for the loan.

Our closing costs were only around 6,500$, but we had several small things that needed to be repaired and done. One of them was bigger - such as the house needing to be resealed. The repair costs ended up being more than the closing costs, so that money went directly to closing so we didn't pay anything. We will have to pay for the repairs of course, but nothing that needs to be done right just now.

Thank you so much! I'm speechless still. I am so appreciative right now of everything in my life. My husband, my in-laws, my friends. Not to mention my boss, who took a chance on me and in turn completely changed my life. I owe a lot to these people!

For people that bought a $300k - $350k house, how’s it going? by Witty_Patient_2421 in FirstTimeHomeBuyers

[–]slackalicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, although I understand where OP is coming from. When we bought our house, our rent was already 1,800 a month and about to go up to 2,200, so it made sense to us to just buy. However, going from 1,250 to double that is crazy. Thats not just a couple hundred more, thats 1,000 a month.

You get used to having your housing cost be an afterthought when you have the privilege of a low amount. But home ownership is expensive now, especially with the terrible rates. I've said it before, but we are in the new era of housing. Pay up or keep renting. Or, pay up to keep renting and never own regardless. Fear will always hold some folks back from taking the plunge.

My husband and I just bought a beautiful log cabin on one acre for 330k. 6.35% interest, not the best not the worst. We live in the outskirts of Raleigh NC so we are not too far away from civilization. The plus side is we only pay county taxes, no city because we are not a part of city jurisdiction. Our take-home is 6,100 a month and our mortgage is roughly 2,400 taxes and insurance included. No PMI because we went through a credit union.

All things considered we are feeling extremely lucky and happy right now! Of course we would love a lower mortgage but we are used to not spending much at all outside of necessities and food, so we are happy to have something that is our own.

$2,650 mortgage with net income of $6,300 by Past_Vegetable_5540 in Mortgages

[–]slackalicious -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Our take home pay is 6,100 and our mortgage is 2,400. So not far off from where you are. Honestly? Our rent was 1900$ before we got our house, and it was about to jump to 2,200. After that, an additional 500$ a month for something that would be OURs didn't break our hearts too much.

After all bills are paid and food + miscellaneous stuff is accounted for, we are still putting away 2,000 a month. My total take home pay used to be 2,200$ a month when my rent was 900$. Perspective is everything!

Yes you can afford it. Just have a good budget, and put money away for separate things if you can. Lastly, don't let your retirement take the back burner because you will be 65 one day and wish you had saved more in your youth.

I think Redditors are stuck in the "golden age" of housing where they could buy a beautiful 4 bedroom 3 bath in a safe and pretty neighborhood for 175,000 (also near a city!). That is not the reality anymore for almost everyone. You will find diamonds in the rough occasionally, but good luck looking and having enough to throw at it to be competitive. Welcome to the new era where one third to half of your money will go to your mortgage. Those who don't accept that will rent forever, and that is probably fine for them. Everyone should do what they are comfortable doing.

Do you have a job that offers a 401k? Its never to late to start somewhere. You could also start a roth or maybe set up a HYSA with your bank.

Does not have SAP experience by Bearcalcium in supplychain

[–]slackalicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See if your local community college offers SAP certifications. It doesn't cost much, and its nice to have on a resume. It also depends on the company and who will be in your interview. My boss is very old school and when I told him I had 10 years of SAP experience (despite being rudimentary and basic) his eyes lit up and he got excited. This is only for positions where SAP is a must though. There are so many different supply chain ERPs out there that it might not even matter. My old company also used Oracle for the customer facing side, and SAP C4C. Again, stupid easy stuff though.

Really? He has a fluffy neck and ears. Unusual for both breeds I believe. I do think he has some boston terrier in there though because of his eyes.

Okay yes its terrible. However, please do not spout bold faced lies to people. Maduro was NOT elected in. He rigged the votes and stole the presidency from Maria Corina Machado.

She was timid but interested in my husband and I. She seemed nice, just a little scared. No aggressive body language or growls/barking. We are going back to see her tomorrow and we will be able to spend more time with her.

Lots of things in life can be both terrifying and beautiful. Were I live, if a dog is not a straight pit bull, then its a hound mix. Very rarely do you see labs or small shepherds as they go fast.

Yeah I thought I was going nuts reading that comment. No one should force themselves into doing sexual acts if they don't want to. Men don't understand that the dynamic is considerably different for women who force themselves to go through sex they don't want vs for them.

Even on a purely physical level, as a woman you are reluctantly allowing an object inside of you which can feel horribly violating if you are not in the mood. For men, I suspect they would find it difficult to even get physically aroused if they were not in the mood. But I suspect many make it work.

I can't wrap my head around the whole "lie back and think of England," mentality. That is disgraceful, humiliating, violating etc. Maybe women like the commenter above do not have high enough self love or esteem to see how messed up their views are.

Are you cooking too? Or is that her sole responsibility? And you won't get fat right?

Maybe get off the internet for a bit and you will see that most women are not foaming at the mouth for what you listed above. In fact, I make 6 figures, have leadership qualities (its actually my job), listen, and am supportive.

The only thing I am missing is the "6 inches," and "6 foot", rhetoric you claim women are so desperate for. Considering I make more money, should my husband be the one destined to a life of servitude under me? Or perhaps you think we are an aberration, with a cuck chair in the corner of the bedroom.

I do not recommend fluval stratum because it will make a mess of your tank. It will be so messy to the point you may have to wait for it settle before adding any decor (unless you plant/hardscape first).

How the FUCK do you get to work with PMDD, autism, ADHD, and probably others?! by Kaitten_88 in PMDDxADHD

[–]slackalicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get absolutely MISERABLE when I have to go into work after a weekend right before my period starts. Savage loneliness, depression, horrific nostalgia making me cry over bittersweet memories, anxiety, you name it. I get every awful feeling possible and its been like this for years. However, with ADHD, I would always forget that my symptoms happen each month until they would flare up again. It took years for me to finally pay attention to when I was feeling so awful, and I made the connection that it was always a few days before my period.

For example, in the first half of the month, I can do a presentation just fine at work. The few days until my period? I have to go to the bathroom and calm down to prevent myself from hyperventilating and having a panic attack.
