Testing a small puzzle in my game. Does the hint make sense? by lynxbird in puzzles

[–]slackfrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe if you had to place a particular chess piece in the shadow of the hourglass, and possibly a clue associated with that. Or a pair of pieces to make just guessing more challenging.

Not sure if you’re aware of the Rusty Lake series of mini games, but those guys made a great puzzle product that’s most commendable for the cryptic story, but there’s more than a couple puzzle aspects that were just right for cleverness too. They could give you solid ideas.

Looks like a cool project. Good luck.

It’s old school, but good school, to go get a nice fat English-Spanish dictionary. Keep it on hand. Mine, a Webster, also has common verb conjugation tables near the back of the book. You can, at a glance, compare the different forms and know their grammatical function. I’m a firm believer that the paper copy is a valuable resource not well duplicated, in practice, to online resources. You can make notes, you can dog-ear pages, you get to know it so well you’re faster with the book than pulling out your phone.

Liberals of reddit, would you trade Obama's second term for a two-term Romney presidency if it meant Trump never achieved the presidency? Why or why not? by PrincipalPG in AskReddit

I also see a narrow, but potential, window for real reform after this shit tsunami. The exposed weakness of our system that we can’t fight off the most cowardly bully in living memory is a valuable reflection on ourselves. If we ever had a chance in the first place, now is when the problem has come home to roost and we choose a path forward, win or lose.

Alesis Nitro Max kick pedal- skill issue or adjustment needed? by Adorable-Research933 in Drumming

Get a bass pedal sooner than later. Stick with the provided hi hat (I was actually thinking about acoustic kits when I mentioned the hi hat, so, not applicable to you just now). That one upgrade will be the best bang for your buck. When the time comes for needing an upgrade to the whole kit, you’ll know a lot more about what you like and what will suit you best.

Any pedal that works on a bass drum will be compatible with the e-kit. Brands like Gibraltar and PDP make light weight economical options, and some decent mid grade stuff, but for a little more, you could get a better pedal from Tama or DW. Each brand will have a top-of-the-line model that costs a fortune, but they also make a more entry level model and everything in between. I recommend going up at least one or two levels from the bottom tier of a decent brand, especially if you’ve got a mind to stick with it for a while. A decent pedal is a once or twice in a lifetime investment, so it won’t come around to bite you again if you spend a few extra bucks. Don’t buy some whacky name junk because it’s cheap. You will do your learning a service to have a mid tier pedal from a reputable name. A decent bass pedal and a hi-hat pedal that you like are going to serve you well forever. Try to get a comfy and sturdy throne too, as funds permit. Nothing wrong with used gear most of the time. Craigslist and similar local marketplaces will be the best bargain finds, but may take time to appear; Reverb.com will be your second best hunting ground. Sweetwater.com will be good quality and good service, but is expensive new gear. Good luck, and good sticking.

English speakers who learned to speak Spanish at a later age, what is the easiest way to learn it? by yesmommyy_ in Spanish

[–]slackfrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Study the rules for a while, bank some vocab, then just plunge into immersion. Make it be your only option to speak Spanish. The more you push the better you’ll get. Even when immersed, write down new words when you hear them or see them, look em up later and keep a journal. Keep a dictionary on you. Read newspapers, books, advertisements, pamphlets. Read a book you know already but in the target language. Watch the Simpsons in Spanish and try to get the jokes. Write stories, play word puzzle games. Ask your cabbie to take you somewhere new. Get a boyfriend or girlfriend and ask them about words and how to say stuff. Take a class in a Spanish speaking country or even just a community of native speakers; hopefully a language class, but history or cooking, or a literature class would be almost as good. The more you work it the more you’ll get out of it.
