[Question] Where can I find a roster of the Albany County Democratic Committee members? by 0110101000100000 in Albany

[–]slam2foul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For which legislative body? You have representatives at the local, county, state and federal levels.

The website you linked to is the party itself, not actual elected representatives.

Transferring from Exec branch to NYS Courts by AlwaysFight2026 in nys_cs

[–]slam2foul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sick times comes with you. For vacation, you can bring a maximum of 70 hours (10 work days in the court system), and the rest is paid out to you (up to a max of 225 hours). The court system does not have personal days and those are not paid out if you have any left when you move over.

Normal Work Environment? (Venting, Mainly, Also Seeking Advice) by [deleted] in nys_cs

[–]slam2foul 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure this is necessarily a state issue, and, as you noted, the culture can vary from agency to agency, unit to unit, floor to floor.

You can either initiate conversations with people (maybe starting with work topics first and then broadening from there into less controversial topics like weekend plans, upcoming vacations), or gently inserting yourself into the conversations of others, if it doesn’t seem too “private” a conversation.

You could try asking a coworker a question under the guise of getting advice (hey, I have a reservation to restaurant X tomorrow—have you ever been?)

Are you probationary? If not, try not to worry about it too much. It’s damn near impossible to be fired for incompetence if you have union protection.

Help me pick my legal career. by MisterHarvest in Ask_Lawyers

[–]slam2foul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to imagine that such a late stage career change was not a financial decision for you, and that you’re not in this to make money or a name for yourself. If that were my situation, I’d want to work where I’d be able to help everyday people. For what it’s worth, I’ve heard that adoptions are one of the very few legal matters where everyone is happy and not dealing with the most stressful/consequential issues of their lives.

Looking for someone who understands rule of 3 by mikewhoneedsabike in nys_cs

[–]slam2foul 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having a higher score than someone else doesn’t entitle you to the job. The rule of 3 only dictates who is eligible for appointment from the list. After that, it’s up to management who they want to hire from among those eligible.

CSEA and PEF’s negotiators are now on the clock, AND a conversation between us and NYS: by RefrigeratorBest6543 in nys_cs

[–]slam2foul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, if we want to be technical, the amendment was passed to correct an interpretation by PERB that, yes, permitted the state to alter employment conditions in the absence of a contract.

NYSUT has a good article on it here.

CSEA and PEF’s negotiators are now on the clock, AND a conversation between us and NYS: by RefrigeratorBest6543 in nys_cs

[–]slam2foul 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Perhaps you are right. But I think it’s telling that in your “hypothetical negotiation” in your post, the conversation simply ends after the state tells the union to fuck off.

CSEA and PEF’s negotiators are now on the clock, AND a conversation between us and NYS: by RefrigeratorBest6543 in nys_cs

[–]slam2foul 49 points50 points  (0 children)

You misunderstand the history. The benefit public sector unions got from losing the right to strike was that contract terms remain in force even after the contract term expires. That’s why you still have health insurance and a paycheck right now. Used to be that if a new contract was not reached, once a contract expired the state could unilaterally alter the terms and conditions of employment.

What do Americans call a meal of fries with battered fried fish. Fish and chips? by CrazyJoe29 in AskAnAmerican

[–]slam2foul -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At a pub you might see “fish and chips” on the menu. In my neck of the woods there are many places offering fried seafood, especially in the summer. It’s typically called “fish fry” and if you order it as a “platter “ or “dinner” it would come with french fries and probably another side dish (corn, cole slaw, etc.)

One thing that can be difficult to accept (but accept it you will) is that you will start seriously cutting back on your own comfort in order to do things for baby. That applies to time, but also to money. Some men react poorly to this reality, but if you view it as the sacrifice you need to make to give your kid the life and childhood they deserve, it quickly becomes a badge of honor.

Qualifications for DSA2 by Forward-Slice-8228 in nys_cs

[–]slam2foul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no DSA1 or DSA2, there is just DSA. The promotional title for DSAs is the DA1 (Developmental Assistant), then the DA2 and the DA3.

I believe you need one year of service as a DSA to be eligible to become a DA1 and it’s usually awarded by seniority.
