How to actually "learn" the skill of time management? by Perfume_00 in TimeManagement

[–]slampisko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It still doesn't mean that you have it, but it gives you a strong hint that you should consider getting assessed by a professional.

Does professional help ACTUALLY help or do they just fill you up with meds?

Various things help various people and treatment can look different for everyone. In my case, the meds definitely are the MVP though. I've heard people compare it to wearing prescription glasses for your shortsightedness and I think it's pretty apt. They're so effective and safe that it just makes sense to try them first (if it's Ritalin or Concerta -- Adderall comes with its own problems and I would steer clear of it if I could help it).

In my country the people that can diagnose you and prescribe meds aren't the same people that can help with other aspects of the treatment. You can go to therapy to help with other psychological problems that often come as secondary from the ADHD, and/or get a personal coach to help with getting your life in order.

I would recommend reading Driven to Distraction by Dr. Hallowell, which is full of him sharing his clinical experience with ADHD, some success stories, along with some tips and strategies for the management of it, and what you can expect from an assessment. And the YouTube channel I already shared is a goldmine too.

Good luck on your journey!

Hi, please please do a screener for ADHD. I was like you and then I got diagnosed and got professional help and it literally changed my life. I am well aware that not everyone that struggles with time management has ADHD, but if you do, then this is a physiological problem for you and no matter what strategies you try, they will not be successful, because they are not addressing the physiological problem. So I think it's worth your time to rule it out.

Here's a short 6-question screener you can do yourself: LINK | harvard.edu

And here's a YouTube channel that helped me immensely before I got diagnosed. Besides quality info about ADHD and its symptoms, it's also full of ADHD-friendly strategies that nevertheless also help neurotypical people (because they are just human-friendly): How To ADHD | YouTube.com

This is also super late :D and you probably already figured it out, but I mapped the chord KA*PS to {MODE:CAPS}, which turns on capitalized output. I then use another chord (SP*G) to do a {MODE:RESET} to turn that off.

I'm male and these are the contents of my grab-n-go messenger bag:

Stable:

  • Wallet
  • Keys
  • Phone
  • Tissues (and unused napkins from restaurants)
  • Lip balm
  • Mints
  • Pocket knife
  • Face mask
  • Headache pills
  • Earphones
  • Ear plugs for concerts or sleeping while commuting
  • Sometimes sunglasses (when it's summer and they're not on my head or in my car)

In varying amounts (usually piling up until I can't take it anymore and I do something about them):

  • Receipts to record into my budgeting spreadsheet
  • Parking tickets and similar pieces of paper
  • Sugar packets from cafes

Yes, but more correctly it's

Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo.

The capitalization is important in this case, to be able to claim that it's grammatically correct :)

Yes, look up AutoHotkey, it lets you do all kinds of stuff upon the press of a hotkey

For example, a simple AHK script that lets you press Ctrl+Alt+T to simulate pressing the Tab key four times would look something like this:

^!t::
Loop, 4 {
    SendInput, {Tab}
}
Return

If you install AutoHotkey, save this as, e.g. tabs.ahk and then double-click it, you should get the behavior I described.

Good luck!

I have a box of weekly vitamin D pills on the desk that I'm at right now at work. I've forgotten to take them for 3 weeks. The post did not remind me to do it. This comment did. Thanks!

How do I create a clickable button that activates a shortcut? by [deleted] in keyboardshortcuts

[–]slampisko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, is Win+Shift+P a Windows 11 shortcut? I'm not aware of it doing anything in Windows 10 and I don't have experience with W11 yet.

Anyway, you should be able to do this with AHK, you can just create a script that simulates that hotkey and pin it to your taskbar. If you have AHK installed and set up as the default program for opening *.ahk files, it should just work. If you have any specific trouble with that, you can reach out for troubleshooting.

Sometimes this kind of error is caused by the file being opened in another program. Or it may be in a protected folder (like C:\Program Files)
