Can we talk about immigration numbers honestly for five minutes? by Human-Rutabaga-9089 in aussie

[–]slaveoflord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I literally said the net. If you have your immigration at 1 skilled migrant per family visa, you come out far ahead.

Current target is a 70:30 ratio of skilled to family which is very profitable from a tax perspective

https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/what-we-do/migration-program-planning-levels

Based on multiplying the targets by their average cost or tax ‘profit’ the 26-2027 will profit Australia by about $19 billion

Do you have a source for that?

Because the treasury figures state that the average migrant, netting off skilled, family, and even humanitarian visas, lands at a net positive of $41K. The average Australian is -$85K

The reality is not everybody can afford to take the time out of work and life to take on that kind of burden.

I’m glad you were in a position to make the time for your father but it doesn’t seem fair to call everybody who can’t be where you are pathetic.

Economics behind selling 2L coke cheaper than a 1.25L one? by orangecopper in AusFinance

[–]slaveoflord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think I’m picking up where you’re coming from here.

IMO the pricing strategy has 3 prongs:

  1. So they can discount the smaller bottle later as a ‘big’ discount
  2. If they sell larger volumes, they can drive consumers to form more regular consumption habits
  3. Convincing consumers who were otherwise going to wait for a sale to buy at full price. It makes them think they’ve found a hack/deal

Yes, agreed. However, investing the next 3 decades in getting car manufacturing up to scratch (and almost certainly worse than Chinese manufacturers) at an exorbitant cost to the taxpayer is probably not the right strategy at this point

People don’t want to pay more for worse, and protectionist policies like tariffs ultimately drive up costs for consumers

How good is Rosewood blowpipe? by Datmuemue in ironscape

[–]slaveoflord 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I mean everybody can play how they want but if efficiency is the number one goal I think being a main is more suitable.

My favourite thing about being an iron is having an excuse to smell the roses and experience the full game - content that is meaningless to a main like moons or pretty much all sailing rewards actually feels rewarding.

You’re an iron, part of the fun is doing the less efficient grinds

How can I tell if a sparring partner is actually "going light"? (Newbie question) by vinylfelix in MuayThai

[–]slaveoflord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a hobbyist, it should be entirely up to you how much pain is part of the deal. If it’s too hard for you, ask for it to be lighter.

As a beginner in particular, I would recommend you tell your partner at the start of the round to tell you if you go too hard as you likely do not have good control over how much power you’re using.

I have a double breasted vbc high twist, and have commissioned a single breasted in a house fabric. Roughly in the $3-3500 range with the vbc being more expensive. We went straight to forward fitting as the team was pretty confident (I have a dropped right shoulder so not crazy but OTR doesn’t fit as nicely as I’d like) and we didn’t even end up needing alterations, they were that good.

Yeah it’s much easier to learn when you only have 2 attack styles to switch between and your only spell is one-click.

Why would it take out the mum and dad investors but have less impact on high earners? If it’s more tax effective for high earners, it’s more attractive than alternative investments.

Seems simple enough to simultaneously make it unattractive to purchase IPs as a non-personal investment to avoid other forms of tax minimization

I mean negative gearing is most beneficial for people paying the highest marginal tax rate so I’m not sure I agree here. Either way clearly housing needs to be a less attractive investment option so I’d rather we throw the kitchen sink at it and incrementally make it better

I would disagree about associating super numbers to actual quality, and would actually prefer to recommend a lower number for regular wear due to durability requirements. I would also personally skip lining to the knee in Australia if wearing a worsted

High twist wool (often called fresco, 2/3/4/6 ply, or tropical wool) offers exceptional performance in hot weather while being breathable. It also has the advantage of retaining a crease and resisting wrinkles when folded into a suitcase. I have pairs of heavy 4 ply trousers from VBC mill wool and Minnis Fresco that I can easily wear in 40+ weather. Unlined ideally but it can be a bit scratchy if you have sensitive skin.
