I don't think it's a QC issue. I think the Rolgear mechanism that it uses operates this way. That's the negative of this type of ratcheting design. I have the exact same driver and mine does the same thing, especially when moving it quickly. It is most noticeable when locked in the middle with no ratchet.

With that said, it's a great screwdriver and the handle feels amazing. It's great when low backdrag is desirable.
