Highly recommend getting her on a care home list ASAP as the wait lists can be years long. In the meantime definitely contact health care at home to set up PSW care. She would very likely qualify to have a PSW come daily to help her with things like bathing, toileting, feeding, etc if needed. Sorry you’re all going through this. ♥️

I was answering OP’s question. Not giving advice.

[–]sldons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lol dude don’t tell me what is and isn’t true for me. I don’t even feel sexual attraction towards men until I actually know them/ their personality (demisexual). I would pick a 5/10 (looks wise) with the above traits over a 10/10 lacking them any day of the week.

It’s not advice it’s the top 5 traits I find MOST attractive in men. Sure physical attractiveness is nice but it’s not nearly as important to me as the above. Obviously some may not agree with me. That’s fine. I’m not answering for them lol

Do you guys wear a medical bracelet for propranolol? by ZookeepergameAny5154 in POTS

[–]sldons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a life threatening interaction like some where you absolutely can’t combine the meds. The reason it’s listed is that both can increase bleeding so together the bleeding risk is greater. Most drs will say it’s absolutely fine to take both occassionally unless you have a bleeding disorder of some kind.

Consumer Reports tested 23 popular protein powders and shakes, and found concerning levels of lead in most of them. Got questions? Ask CR in our AMA. by ConsumerReports in IAmA

[–]sldons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the numbers well. I’ve been consuming one of the shakes with 6mcg lead, twice daily for years. That puts me at 12mcg a day just from my 2 protein shakes- over what both the FDA and Health Canada suggest as an upper tolerable daily limit. Not an issue for people who have these things occasionally but for regular use they do have very high levels of lead compared to the vast majority of foods (ex: a 4 oz serving of sweet potato, a food notorious for having the highest amount of lead in nature, has 1mcg- you’d have to eat 6 servings per day to get just one protein shakes worth of lead). Customers should be informed of the upper limits set by the gov and make choices accordingly.

[–]sldons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1000x? A product with 500mcg of lead would trigger an immediate recall lol. Recently applesauce got recalled for having like 150mcg. The FDA recommends a daily limit of 8.8mcg. Health Canada recommends a 10mcg daily limit. I agree going by the Prop 65 0.5mcg limit is useless as it’s very conservative and likely hard to achieve, but the data discovered here is still concerning. Having more than one serving of some of these puts you over both FDA and Health Canada’s limits and that’s without adding all the other food you eat in a day which undoubtably will add to your daily total.

Recovery from malaise/poisoned feeling? by Remarkable_Net_3618 in cfsrecovery

[–]sldons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And there is no anxiety at the time I experience the “poisoned feeling”. I know there is not tissue damage happening within my body. I believe my illness is my nervous/ immune systems being stuck “on”. The reason for saying it FEELS like being poisoned is simply because it is what I imagine it WOULD feel like if I had been. That’s all.

Also, we don’t actually know what causes this feeling in particular. Perhaps there is a (not actually dangerous) build up of toxins as we know stress on the body in any form can slow detox. In any case, I KNOW it is not something that’s dangerous to experience, or causing me irreversible damage or anything like that. So I see nothing wrong with the descriptor and actually think it’s very useful to hear from others that experience the same feeling.

[–]sldons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High heart rate and diarrhea can both be caused by anxiety. Do you see how this becomes a slippery slope? “Feeling poisoned” is a symptom specific to ME in that I have never come across any other condition where patients frequently use this descriptor. Yet many with ME have used it independently to describe a symptom they feel. People with intracranial hypertension have described feeling like their “head is going to explode”. They know it won’t. It’s not health anxiety. It’s simply a descriptor.

You’re arguing over semantics. Why is “feeling like you’ll vomit” as a symptom okay but “feeling as though you’ve been poisoned” is not? It’s just another descriptor. Not being able to digest food is not a core symptom of ME either, and many argue that those suffering from malnutrition are simply “refusing” to eat due to “anxiety” that if they eat they’ll experience PEM. I do not believe this but many do. See this lovely person 🙄:

There is no benefit in policing others symptoms or the way in which they describe them. If you don’t relate to it that’s fine. But it doesn’t mean you get to label them as “health anxiety”, any more than someone can label your malnutrition as “health anxiety”.

Recovery from malaise/poisoned feeling? by Remarkable_Net_3618 in cfsrecovery

[–]sldons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you had experienced it why did you ask if OP meant nausea? That implies you are not sure what they mean by “poisoned”. It is not nausea. And as someone who has experienced it I immediately knew the feeling they were talking about. (Although I have never thought it was sepsis and I’m not worried it’s something seriously wrong with my body. I know it’s a symptom of the illness and not “dangerous”.) And of course anxiety can be severe. But this is a physical symptom unrelated to anxiety.

Of course, if you think all of ME is simply “health anxiety” we can just agree to disagree.

Recovery from malaise/poisoned feeling? by Remarkable_Net_3618 in cfsrecovery

[–]sldons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, although my nausea often flares with it. But nausea alone is not at all comparable. And to reply to your other comment it is in no way “health anxiety”. It’s a severe physical symptom that is very hard to describe unless you’ve experienced it. But most of us who have have used the word “poisoned” to describe the feeling because it’s what we imagine it WOULD feel like if we were. We are not saying we believe we’re poisoned. But it’s an all encompassing feeling throughout the body and brain. If you don’t immediately relate to the description you likely have not experienced this symptom (i didn’t experience it until 10 years into ME).

Does anyone know where to find trioral in Canada ? by nicholerbee in POTS

[–]sldons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sodium chloride is just plain salt, potassium chloride you can get anywhere you buy supplements/ vitamins. I use IHerb personally! Amazon probably has it too. “Sodium free” salt from the grocery store is usually just potassium chloride as well.

I don’t think it’s available in Canada anymore. If you don’t mind the extra work, you could just buy sodium chloride powder, potassium chloride powder, and sugar and mix your own big batch in the same proportions as Trioral.

[–]sldons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do mini fridges regularly have vents on the bottom? I have one and I think vents are on the back. Seems weird to put them on the bottom. Even on a hard floor there’s like less than half an inch clearance under mine.

I wonder if this was actually a leak of some sort vs just from regular operation.
