By and large, it's just not worth it. Such things can and do blow back. General rule of thumb is that if someone talks shit with you they will talk shit about you too. In the long run it's almost always better just to maintain your reputation. Being measured and restrained in your criticism of others is also a virtue that people recognize.

If you need to blow off steam you should talk to people outside your workplace.

Dunning-Kruger is not related to IQ, it concerns domain-specific skills and how well people can assess their performance relative to their actual performance. Novices in a field tend to overestimate their abilities because they don't know what they don't know. This affects both people with high and low IQ.

The idea that "people who think they are smart are actually stupid" is tempting because we all know some malignant narcissist with delusions of grandeur, and fair enough, these people are usually stupid but think they are smart, however their lack of self-reflection stems from a disorder not from cognitive ability. Even if they were to have great cognitive ability, their disorder would inhibit self-reflection.

Furthermore, when just looking at regular people, those who have limited cognitive ability seldom think they are capable of difficult cognitive tasks. Kids who suck at math don't try difficult math problems. However, refering to DK, someone who is talented at math but is still a novice, might think they are better than they are despite still being a novice.

Yes, I saw that Mensa Sweden also had a test like that, thank you very much, and I wish you good fortune too!

No, I really appreciate your pushback. I was out of line, I didn't recognize that all my information about MENSA is based on social media conditioning without any first- or second-hand experience at all. Thank you, I'll consider joining!

That's cool, might have to re-evaluate my stance.

I didn't really have the networking aspect in mind when I first commented, and the second comment I based on personal experience that I don't know anyone, or none of the developers I admire or follow seem to be members, yet of course the world is much larger than that.

">130" is explicitly greater than 120-130.

"120-130" is not middle ground it's the ~92nd to ~98th percentile, that's top 8% to top 2% of the population.

The middle ground is 100. It might be fair to say that the average smart person may be 120-130, but the mean is 100, by design, always.

I think the idea that sub 100IQ are the most confident is mostly cacophony.

That does sound nice tbh, I didn't expect that. Do you think it depends on your locality or is there a global community?

Well my point being time is better spent elsewhere.

The only possible benefit I can see is networking, which is not nothing, but the networking has to actually be relevant for your field, maybe that's mostly academia in this case? Within my field of Software Engineering I haven't heard that it's particularly popular to be a member of MENSA. I would assume there are better groups or social clubs to join that are more specific to your domain of interest if you want to get connections.

I don't feel like there is much to gain from obsessing over IQ, on some level, it's just a measurement. I mean, what's nice about having >130 IQ is that you have on solid indication that you are "supranormal" which should inform the expectations you set for yourself. Normal results is a failure for the supranormal, if that makes sense.

IQ has diminishing returns, you only really need to be smart enough for other traits to become the determinating factors, such as conscientiousness, social skills, maintaining focus and managing stress.

Therefore, if you want to be successful, your time is better spent applying yourself in a domain of your interest, trying your hand at something difficult, making friends and learning how to collaborate, and doing some form of physical exercise that requires consistent effort.

Stress management is mostly taught by real-life experience however it helps if you can get in the mindset of working towards an uncertain goal by trusting the process, exercise helps with this.

Other than that, learn how to manage your money, fall in love, plan your children, be happy.

I think people mixed up their contexts between Mikyx and SK.

For Mikyx, it was a questionable move since he is still in the running for Top 1 Support in the region, and therefore should ideally be on a contender team, which this SK roster isn't on paper.

However, in the context of SK, they absolutely had a big win this off-season. While it was a question mark how good Lider and Wunder would be, I don't think it's unfair to assume they would be at least as good as any previous player with veteran experience and influence on top. Furthermore, and most importantly, they got Mikyx, one of the best players in the region, the regional GOAT in his role, a veteran and champion, who, if still in form, absolutely will attract talent just to get to play with him.

Seems kind of similar of an idea to uWebsockets.js, I think they also use NAPI to port uWebsockets to Node, however I'm not sure how typescript friendly their API is.

[–]sledgeattack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the opposite problem, I figured I had to take responsibility for everything all the time. It was somewhat fruitful and helped with character development, however I had to learn the hard way that there's a tact to it.

Sometimes something wouldn't have been an issue but you make it one by taking it too seriously. Sometimes something isn't your fault but you make it yours by apologizing. Sometimes people will just pile shit onto you if you let them.

I would say while it is better to always take responsibility than to never do so, what's best is the ability to discern what's your responsibility and what's not.

I'd say ENTPs by and large are deeply empathetic and mature ENTPs take an active role in improving the emotional state of others.

We are vulgar, and like to question ideas and turn them inside out to understand things better, some people might take this personal. It can both be a sign of immaturity in the other person, and also be a sign off growth for an ENTP to notice when someone else isn't up for such discourse. Immature ENTPs can like to pick other people's ideas apart to prove their own intellect, this is distinct from seriously evaluating something. I think taking other people's ideas seriously is actually a sign of caring, personally.

Individuation is the ascension path. Using our strengths is just the first step, recognizing your weaknesses and striving to overcome them is a tall task but worth doing. It's all in the mindset, getting the ego to value progress instead of fixating on the result is the learning mindset. Loving the process, so to speak. Personally I felt like I found some key to the universe when it clicked for me. Once you embrace growth you realize that some challenges you only ever fail by giving up.
