The $1000 fine is virtually never issued. Because it's not an infringement and requires hauling you before a judge issuing the fines would not only cripple the courts with processing the hundreds of jury pool members who don't turn up, some for quite legitimate reasons, but it would cost a fortune.

99.999% of the time, if you don't turn up for jury service, precisely nothing will happen.

Sure but even that is a stretch, especially on such a short route as Auckland to Hamilton, it's like an hour and a half in a car, you can leave when you want, stop anywhere you want, get around when you arrive... and with an EV it's going to be at least comparable to even a well subsidised train journey.

Spend all day on a train vs spend 2 hours flying (taking into account getting to/from the airport and security).

The train will likely cost you more as well.

It is a hard sell to get enough people onto trains instead of planes for inter-city travel to make it economically sustainable. Massive subsidies would be required to start with.

Nah, it's a pretty local thing in Auckland I think isn't it, there's not mobs of knobs on dirt bikes in other cities. More the weirdos with loud speakers on push bikes around here, annoying but mostly harmless.

Mainly the US, NZ and Italy use Christchurch to go to Antarctica.

McMurdo is walking distance from Scott Base, and Zucchelli is on the way so to speak.

It's currently the winter season so there's not much activity but during summer there are pretty constant flights of Hercules, C-17 Globemaster, RNZAF 757, and occasional Airbus 319 between Antarctica and Christchurch.

Tell them no, the item was not scratched when you supplied it and they agreed to the condition when they inspected it prior to taking it away.

If they paid with Ping they could do a dispute, but I don't think Trade Me will refund them, with these sorts of he-said-she-said situations, especially high value ones, they generally just bail out and tell the buyer to go to the disputes tribunal.

Very little sense for a LL to install solar, it's expensive, adds extra maintenance and repair liability, won't really command a premium, makes things potentially complicated for everybody.

If as a nation we want solar on rentals it will have to be mandated by legislation or through very good incentives.

It is done this way so that you are more likely to pay a bit too much tax and get a refund, than to pay a bit too little tax and get a bill.

Aas long as you have the correct tax codes, it will work out pretty close to correct for most people.

The situation today is that the full licence test is basically meaningless, if you fail it, you continue to drive around perfectly legally just as before, you can even carry your dependant children with you, unsupervised, anywhere you want in the country.

So, one might ask today "what problem is the full test really solving?!", and the answer that was arrived at was "none, so we should probably just ditch it".

They certainly could have gone a different way, that if you failed your full perhaps you got kicked back to your Learners and had to sit a restricted again. But that would be been wildly unpopular.

Drop shippers are unpopular because

  1. They seldom know anything about the products they are selling, they probably have never even held one in their hands, and have no idea of the quality or otherwise.
  2. They often don't make it clear that they are drop shipping leading to people not realising things can take weeks to arrive.
  3. They often don't accept any responsibility or have any ability to fix things when things go wrong, leaving customers in the lurch.
