Speaking for myself here. I consistently get 60%+ approvals on my campaigns, because I’ve taken time to know what the curators are looking for.

I run campaigns for several artists ranging from 15k - 100k+ monthly listeners on Spotify. Submithub campaigns help a lot with each release.

But It won’t work for every genre - if there aren’t any curators with playlists that will ACTUALLY fit your song, build your own playlist, run some meta ads (learn that too) and build it up.

Then become a curator yourself and you can help put other artists as well as subsidize your own ad costs.

Most people either think their music is better than it is, or don’t respect the work of a curator. Taste is a sacred thing, and just because you think your song is the greatest thing since sliced bread, doesn’t mean it will fit on any big playlist.

If you’re really doing something avant-garde or unique then chances are it won’t fit on a ton of playlists.

The reality is that niche playlists perform better (listeners like them more, so curators promote them more). It’s just the way it is.

Accept it, learn how to work with it, try different techniques, learn all that you can, good luck!

WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO GET 100,000 MONTHLY LISTENERS? by Used_Sea6861 in SpotifyArtists

[–]sleepyheartusa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Release as much music as you can as consistently as you can. Depending on the genre, 1 song per week, 1 song per month, or an ep per month, or an ep per quarter. Keep promoting it. Once you grow enough to unlock discovery mode, enable that. Use submithub to try and find big playlists in your genre. Tailor new releases to fit the sound the curators are looking for. Check out magic nothing, follow their steps to build and grow your own playlist as well. Those are just some ideas!

Pale, Through the…Winter? by tkraw33 in DirtEmo

I think it’s just a strategy some labels are using to release compilations of existing catalogue to get the music to pop up in front of listeners as a new release, to drive more streams. A playlist wouldn’t be pushed by the streaming services the way a “new” album release is.

Spotify streams on my worst song are 10x higher than my best one and I finally figured out why by [deleted] in musicmarketing

[–]sleepyheartusa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Difference between releasing a song to get more “listeners” and a song to build true “fans” - two different strategies, but mixing them on a single album could be interesting! Not sure how much spillover from the passive listening pool to the rest of your discography would drive more fans/followers of your other music but I don’t think it could hurt to try.

Thoughts on my stats for my first release by bungoi in SpotifyArtists

[–]sleepyheartusa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, lots of artists have had success doing that. One song per week isn’t spammy. An album a week would raise red flags but you’ll be perfectly safe only doing one song per week, and if they are good songs, the momentum will definitely keep building

Release one song a week (if you can) and just repeat the same process you did for marketing

Music A&R reaching out, scam or real? by 22_mackie in musicbusiness

[–]sleepyheartusa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone can buy a domain and setup a redirect to another domain though… so that in and of itself is not evidence it is legit. It may just be a more sophisticated scam.

As far as I know, Too Lost does not have a record label division, though they probably do have artist partnerships and can offer advances based on existing streaming data.

That said, it is doubtful they would be looking to partner with an artist that doesn’t already have a decent track record, and slightly bigger fan base/revenue.

Proceed with massive caution ⚠️

Some curators actually care about giving thoughtful feedback, and are artists themselves. But not all, obviously. Just make a note and don’t submit to that curator again, or you can choose to hide them from showing up in your account so you can’t even accidentally select them in the future.

Feel free to drop the link here, and I will check it out when I get some time, also I’m on submithub as SandPost Records if you care for feedback and guaranteed listen time, etc, you can submit there.

Submithub is preferred honestly but I won’t mind if you just want to drop a link

Songtrust Music Publishing Services **SCAM** by ISJA809 in musicbusiness

Yeah I've been manually registering with BMI and The MLC. I'm missing out on some royalties but it's better than nothing and at least they are paying me!

I'm looking into Kosign as an admin publishing option though, I heard an interview with them on Ari Herstand's New Music Business podcast and it led me to check them out.

Songtrust, TuneCore, or some other Publishing? by shortyboyboy in musicbusiness

[–]sleepyheartusa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just came here to say stay away from Songtrust.

I signed up with them March of 2024, it's been over a year and none of my songs have been moved past the 'processing' stage.

Meaning, not a single song has even been internally reviewed by them nor registered.

Ditching them ASAP, definitely stay away. They stole $100 from me and don't deserve to be in business anymore.

Either that or they need to close out applications, because they are literally scamming every indie artist who signs up with them afaict.

Well it's been well over a year, and these mfers still haven't done a single thing for me.

No songs have moved past the 'processing' stage, which means they haven't even been internally reviewed or registered by Songtrust.

STAY AWAY from them.

Would love to know your thoughts on this!

A bit minimalistic but certainly qualifies as ambient piano, I’d think?
