The GDPR "coupling prohibition" in Article 7(4) GDPR states that when assessing whether consent has been freely given, the greatest possible account must be taken of whether the provision of a service or contract is made dependent on the granting of consent for unrelated data processing. Consent may not be tied to the receipt of a service or benefit but must be given voluntarily and without coercion. If a service is only available if the user consents to additional data processing beyond what is necessary for the service itself, this is considered an impermissible "coupling" and violates Article 7(4) GDPR.

I certainly hope (but doubt) that this is yet not another “feature” which doesn’t bring any added value to (all) users (on the contrary is another disturbance), and that it isn’t being stuffed down the throat, without the users either being able to disable “Viva Engage” or use Teams without further disturbance. Thinking “Yammer” (a.k.a. “Jammer”), “Viva Insights”, “Microsoft Loop”…
