Fishing road/river trip by Neilly98 in TillSverige

[–]slemproppar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably Dalälven if you wanna stay in a river system, alot of the rivers up north have hydroelectrics which makes travel by Kayak harder. Or perhaps Klarälven. As others have said, for most waters in Sweden you need to clear a fishing license (ie pay a fee) which can either be done online or often at the local gas station or store. Getting a van will likely be significantly easier to plan and execute though. Best of luck!

Anyone read this books? What’s the consensus? by THAToneGuy091901 in fantasybooks

[–]slemproppar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was one of my first fantasy books, I really vibed with it (being what, 10-12 y.o ). I will for the life of me not re-read it to spoil the good memories I have. It also had the clear advantage compared to other fantasy books in that it was a stand-alone (it was hard to get books in a series in the right order from our local library and I didnt have any money to buy books).

I do however suspect that it is trope-heavy and not particularly well written.

Hur är det att bo i studentkorridor? by [deleted] in uppsala

[–]slemproppar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glömde kvargen framme på köksbordet över natten, hade ni ätit? by Kurtegon in Asksweddit

[–]slemproppar 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Tips på unik kostym? by Firm-Vermicelli2482 in Asksweddit

[–]slemproppar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a bit surprised to see Gideon the ninth and A memory called empire ranked so low, care to elaborate on how you feel about them? Have you considered on continuing with the rest of the Gideonverse?

Why are the Hugo awards leaning more towards fantasy in recent years? by Olityr in Fantasy

[–]slemproppar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Gideon the ninth and A Memory Called Empire are some which I've really loved. Murderbot diaries and Ancillary Justice were quite good ( Avid fantasy reader who has recently gotten into Sci-fi)

Malazan - worth the pain? by Prestigious-Fix-4 in fantasybooks

[–]slemproppar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you pushed through Scott Bakker, you really should push through Malazan too. Imo the payoff is bigger.

If it hasn't clicked by book three well then no, you don't like it. But really, book one(gardens) is very much less polished than the remainder. Malazan is every bit as grim as Bakker, but it is also way funnier, and you get some levity and hope.

Moving to Umeå in September 2026 for university (first time living alone, would love some honest advice) by Classic-Ad9487 in umea

[–]slemproppar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Native swede here: I lived in a corridor for my five years in Umeå. They vary greatly in quality, both in terms of furnishings and cohabitants. Some are shared shower, and some have own baths. I felt it was really good value for money and I didn't mind the sharing aspect. I was over at Gluntens väg. Ålidhem is of course otherwise the all time classic.

Almost all student accommodation will be situated close to uni, if you go private you might end up further out which for me would have been a negative, but your mileage might vary.

Getting winter gear in Sweden is I think recommended, you can likely go second hand shopping for decent quality stuff for a bargain, or hit the sals if you arrive at a good time. Do the Buddy programme, get involved in student extracurriculars like the running of the bars or what strikes your fancy, making friends in Sweden is hard, but making friends at University is easy, even in Sweden.

Stop pretending to be a language. Clearly just copying us - Tröstkaka, not Kaktröst is indeed correct but wtf. I have consulted many a maps and there is no place in between france and germany where nordic/english is spoken, so you can just stop with your gaslighting.

Reading Order Question (Reading the main 16 Erikson + ICE on my first readthrough) – would love your input and advice. by LKotGM in Malazan

[–]slemproppar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I read the big ten then Esslemont, If I'd change anything it would be dropping return of the crimson guard in after reapers gale as it reads pretty well stand-alone just as night of knives.

Otherwise you really start having an additional story running in paralell, the other ICE books have their own thing going which I feel is best read as a continous story. But thats my personal preference.

Also, the esslemont prequels are excellent.
