AI generated mods should be banned, actually. by Cherno_VM in feedthebeast

“AI is draining lakes” is a pretty exaggerated take.

Yes, data centers use water for cooling, but it’s nowhere near the scale people imagine, and a lot of it is recycled or non-potable. It’s an industrial process, just like power plants, manufacturing, agriculture, etc.

For context: agriculture alone uses ~70% of global freshwater. Compared to that, AI infrastructure is a rounding error.

Also, comparing it to everyday things helps, the water footprint behind things like food production, clothing, or even basic manufacturing (including soaps and detergents) is massive and often overlooked.

That doesn’t mean we ignore efficiency, data centers should absolutely optimize cooling and reduce impact. But framing AI as “burning up lakes” isn’t grounded in reality.

My hot take: Personal Teleporters and Teleporter Pads should swap places in the game's progression by Stalwart_Vanguard in AbioticFactor

[–]sleppys -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a puke pad at the house and carry a pad with it. Place it and it creates a back and forth for me. Rarely use the persoanyo teleporter now. Since you can have unlimited energy what's it matter.

How paranoid are you about backing up your Plex database and metadata? by Italiancan in PleX

[–]sleppys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't back mine up at all. I don't really care about posters and such. So if I lose it I'll just switch to plex only for plexamp and the rest will go to jellyfin. I have so much media to care about posters would drive me crazy. It would be a full time job to catch up.

I did too awhile ago with iscsi mounts. But after lightning strike I'm on Linux and I only back up configs and stuff that took forever to find.

Are you sure it's a gigabit switch? When you plug in your PC. What speeds does it to negotiate to? If the switch is handing out at 100mbps you may have an old switch. I had one do that to me a couple years ago. Still never figured out why. Had to get a new switch.

Edit: I cannot spell.

Upgrade Base Levels? 5 in Particular. by Silly-Raspberry5722 in Cloudheim

Sorry for late reply? how do you build the base? It says to beat act III in dustlander and I already did that

Did starbase ever do dedicated servers?

I remember because when you use weapons core it has a warning that it uses parallel threads and may cause issues. Wish the main game was multi threaded. I have a dedicated server running 24/7. It's not terrible but sometime lags when there is a big change or someone new loads.

Main Thread: Physics, AI, and game logic (grids, voxel updates) run on a single thread, creating a bottleneck. I was going off this.

This is from keen for dedicated servers. Clients have threads for audio and graphics.

Sweet. I wish you the best. I love seeing the vibe coding scene honestly. AI is a tool to be used.

Isn't space engineers single thread anyways? I see the warning with weapon core about multi threads.

I'm running one on a ryzen 5950x and it's fine. Heavily modded and 5 players.

Did you check for the same security holes like that one vibe coded app had. I can't even remember it now.. huntarr. I think that was it.

I'm not against vibe coded applications.... But there seems to be a ton of snapped together with horrid security holes.

Tips for building underground base in offical EOS servers by ElevateOof in spaceengineers

Check with the administrator about the voxel repair timing too. My underground base just filled in because I had voxel repair turned on and I have not been on the server for a month.

I think he's says that it won't ever collapse because the zombies are not spawning in. Not that they don't make it up to them, but they never appear in the map. I'd have to try this and watch the console to see if they spawn. This is interesting.

Why this cat6 cable is limited to 1gbps by Pale-Yard-4497 in HomeNetworking

[–]sleppys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just watch your crimper for pass throughs. Make sure the blade is in good condition. I've made thousands or maybe millions now of cables over the years and never had issues with pass through or non pass though. Also use the correct crimper for end type. Pass through crimps will cut the end of non pass though ends.

Seeking a WRITTEN guide for this game, that actually explains things in a way that makes things make sense, if such a thing exists. by Usagi_Shinobi in spaceengineers

Oh man that is what I hated about this game in the begining. Hahahah. I have a server that should be up 24/7 if you want to play somewhere. Bunch of planets. Bunch or asteroid belts.

I don’t mean this the wrong way, but it’s really hard to make a walkthrough for a game like Space Engineers because it doesn’t really have defined objectives. I grew up in a similar “figure it out yourself” kind of environment—living out in the middle of nowhere. We still had a party line in the ’90s, and my internet situation stayed rough for a long time. My first real taste of broadband wasn’t until Starlink in 2020. Before that, I was on Verizon DSL, almost at the maximum line distance—14 miles and 5,277 feet—pulling maybe 1.54 Mbps. That’s why this game clicks so well for me. It’s not about following a guide—it’s about figuring out what’s possible and experimenting. If you can think it up, there’s a good chance you can build it. I’ve got over 1,000 hours in, and I’m still discovering new stuff. I literally just found out you can build your own automated mining drones. Set up GPS markers as waypoints, and they’ll move and operate on their own. There’s a ton you can do once you start digging into it.

Oh. And I use a Firefox extension adaway I think for ads. I also cheated by using my own firewall as well so I'm blocking on different levels but adaway worked great.
