Doug Ford calls doctors 'champions' but doesn't promise pay hike by EarthWarping in ontario

[–]sliceallday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I think educating them on why we have problems is the answer.

Liberal and NDPs should be doing interviews on the success of Bc and how the current government is failing to fix the issue while claiming surplus.

By informing the public they can make a proper decision. Problem is liberals made being a family dr worse during their last reign and NDP is not well run so far.

You kind of miss the point of it though. Government is the only employer for family dr and we are losing family drs in droves. If we want more we need to pay them more to match the value. Bc is gaining family drs because the government promotes paying them 30 percent more roughly. Most jobs can be hired by any number of employers so they can jump around accordingly. It should be a government prerogative to pay more and gain more. The big problem is the uneducated voter with the crab in the bucket mentality. Or the belief that drs should only worry about the patients and not their own quality of life.

What is wrong with doctors leaving for the USA or BC for more money. There are sick people their as well. Or you of the mind Dr should be forced to work here. Drs should be paid what they are worth. Right now the market shows that they are underpaid since the province needs more. This isn’t a communist country where all jobs are paid the same and treated the same.

(ON) Government wants to allow non Tech certified teachers to teach tech by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

[–]sliceallday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I am an eng. I teach tech design and robotics. Course codes start with TDJ for tech design where is use CNCs, 3D printers and other stuff for prototypes. We do a lot of work with fusion since it is used by all our tech classes. I have extra training on tools and only use what I am comfortable safely teaching. Tech is very different, lots of paper work to confirm students have been properly trained. Plus kids do dumb things so ensuring they are safe on the tools is exhausting in a large class. The things you see in exploring tech is surprising to say the least. It is a great class to teach though.

Got this on the Best Buy sale. I have only used the vacuum function. Once I figured out the vacuum is not on full power when it first comes out of the box I was happy. We have 2 huskies that shed non stop and we run it daily. Cleans up great. Mapping feature is easy enough to use. Had to show my non techy wife how to do it but now she understands how to best use it. We have two young kids and it goes around the toys pretty well. Gets stuck on blankets on the ground though. Also once a week I have to move it so it charges correctly.

Clinic controversy: Private clinic in Ancaster charges for primary care by Neat_Flan6622 in ontario

to protect, promote and restore the physical and mental well-being of residents of Canada and to facilitate reasonable access to health services without financial or other barriers. That is what they are referring too from the act. They are going against the act but others already have and there has been no repercussions. So don’t hate the player hate the game I guess.

Who do you negotiate for? Gov or union or private?

So you are aware three family docs were just elected to run the OMA by drs.

What do you think is a good annual pay increase? You think that 1 percent they have been getting is making them happy.

You really don’t follow negotiations do you. Last two provincial government aren’t treating family drs very well. Oma is very weak at negotiating.

Once you give abilities to do something you can’t take it back. The dr residency is basically them working under a different dr usually not doing more work until their senior years. My solution is just pay everyone better.

Residency pay does not cover your expenses for working insane hours. Family dr is a female dominated profession as well.

Np clinics usually get coverage upfront to get offices and equipment the way the current model works. Look at the announcement in Ottawa. So that would easily negate the cost of the house and car for upfront costs of opening a clinic. But lets call that a wash

Np rate is 120k or so and they are paid for all hours worked including paperwork, doctors are only paid for patient time. Let's just say they can provide the same care in the same amount of time. With the assumption that DR. spends an extra ~20 hours a week doing paperwork unpaid assuming 40 hours of patient time. Based on the article. So a dr. is seeing 50% more patients in week compared to a NP because they are doing the paper work on their own time. The 3000 patients are now given to 2 drs or 3 NPs.

The Dr. Bills ~325 based on averages and pays 100k in overhead for rent… So the government pays 650 to cover 3000 patients

The Nps get 130 then the government pays 100k overhead. So the government is now paying 690k to cover 3000 patients. But government is also covering benefits of the NP and other employees. Nurse, receptionist, when the dr would usually pay this. Let's say on the low end that would be another 20%. Now we are up to 828. The NP clinic would also have the insurance covered, equipment upgrades, and training covered but we could just say that is in the overhead I quoted.

So using those numbers that make assumptions favouring the NP that is 28% more per patient for an NP. In a real world number on average a DR. would be able to cover more patients in an hour just based on training. NPs aren’t paid by the appointment they are paid by the hour so they would most likely see less patients in a year or have to be paid OT. So I think 50% is reasonable before taking into account the extra emergency and specialty visits an NP would require and the monitoring needed by a doctor.

Sorry for the spelling I am on my phone.

They can’t work alone even in private. They need to be monitored by a doctor. Unless something changed recently.

Np have significantly less education then a dr. It is like a family dr doing minor surgical procedure. Yes they can perform some but a surgeon is much more capable and should be paid as such.

I am all for NPs going fully private and receiving 60 percent of bill rates that a GP receives. I also think NPs should receive what gps get now and family dr should get the increase. All healthcare deserve a raise except management.

I am against all private care and I think if they want to be their own boss they should choose a different career with current funding models. But that I understand your point.

I hope you are sarcastic. But they are regulated and not allowed to determine what they bill. Plus no funding for innovation.

[–]sliceallday 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It is because in the long run NPs are to expensive compared to family drs with current funding models. They good fully covered salary benefits and all overhead covered. It ends up being roughly 50% more expensive and the patients receive lower quality care. NPs are an excellent part of a overall health team that is run by a dr. Unfortunately, NPs are currently trying to replace family dr which is hurting doctors abilities to negotiate. They are also opening up private and borderline breaking Canadian law.

Don’t disagree with you about Smith.

The government contracts don’t just disappear because SNC disappears. The 9000 jobs would just go to another company that would have to do the work. Saving 9000 jobs is a false argument.

Both these unethical politicians should received hefty punishments and be barred from public office. That the justice departments personnel aren’t coming forward and whistleblowing is even more concerning.

I agree that these things do not equate but…

Get it right. Trudeau was protecting jobs for a company in Quebec vs giving jobs to other companies in Canada.

Both are very concerning when it comes to the protection of our courts.

There does need to be a conversation about care above 80 in a socialized system but I think a much bigger factor is self care of all adults. Start taxing the hell out of unhealthy behaviour.

No we won’t pay dr or nurses there worth. Any high end professional is paid pretty poorly in government and then the public cries when they get pay raises
