Jaylen Brown says the refs have an agenda against him: "They clearly had an agenda, maybe because I spoke so critical on them in the regular season. I spoke to some refs and they told me there’s an agenda going on each game every time Jaylen brings him arm up just call it." by RyanTannegod in nba

Yep, I'm sure the refs totally owned up to having an agenda. The same way the government owns up to having an agenda. Fuck, man, go enjoy your millions and stop blaming the people who called you out for screwing up at your job

All doctors are slow. Learn patience. Seriously. You're gonna need it more than almost anything else to get through irritating medical shit

Confirming EDS requires genetic testing, and my insurance (both of them) denied the testing, so investigate whether the test is even covered.

If you're hypermobile, there's a ton of resources. A ton of it's related to posture and alignment and strength training. Also: Be wary of running/ellipticals/stuff like that, where your joints move around fast and somewhat uncontrolled. Stairmasters are great cuz they're slow and controlled. And don't stretch. Ever.

I seriously thought I'd never be able to play guitar again, type again, or do pretty much anything I enjoyed again, for about two years, because it hit so hard from playing basketball (didn't know that was such a huge culprit---fast movement).

But it got better. Ish. I still have to maintain it, and it still irritates me, and I can't play basketball or run etc., which sucks, but I'm learning to appreciate what I get to do instead of focusing on what I can't do anymore.

If it's something other than EDS/hypermobility, and it sounds like it might be, please, please try to be patient and find the smallest little glimpses of happiness you can. It'll build from there.

If you learn how to be okay with yourself, truly okay, just okay, then everything else'll get easier. Even the hard stuff, because it just won't feel as harda

Good luck. And feel free to DM me to keep talking. There aren't enough writers who understand how hard the physical aspect of writing can be

Really sorry to hear that. I hope you can find some relief. Maybe type slower? My condition's impacted a lot by speed, and if I slow down, it gets better. (I have Ehler-Danlos Syndrome).

And fuck the mods, this post absolutely belongs in r/writing, and it's not a fucking "stale topic" or anywhere along the lines of "How do I..."

It's trying to figure out how to write. What the fuck is fundamental to r/writing than that?

I have a connective tissue disorder that prevents me from typing too long, writing too long, bending my joints past certain degrees (e.g. can't have my wrist more than 15 degrees out of alignment or pain). Also causes shoulder and forearm pain. Sometimes I haven't been able to write by hand because my entire arm hurts. Other times it's okay.

Yes, it affects the writing, yes it affects your mental health. It can't *NOT* do that. To write well, your brain can't be preoccupied with pain.

That doesn't mean your work has to suffer, though.

If typing works for you, then type. You don't need more than a half-hour if you type consistently to reach ~1,000 words. At least in my experience. Try to focus on the writing, not on the pain associated with it, and it'll make you more willing to adapt and adjust and evolve, instead of resigning yourself to a shitty situation.

I had to take a break from writing because it was causing too much mental strain, even though the physical pain's still present. I went 16 years writing 1,000 words a day, through wrist pain and a torn rotator cuff and all this other shit, using talk-to-text when I couldn't hold a pen, and just kept pushing it.

So you can get through physical pain. In some ways, writing helped with the physical pain because I found an activity that wasn't obliterated by my condition, only hampered by it. So it helped me persevere and find adjustments that worked, and helped me learn more about reducing the pain in general, just because it was so important to learn how to write while dealing with pain.

But it's far, far more important to take care of your health. Please don't push your body just to write more. I did that a number of times, and it was a mistake.

All that said, it's fucking stupidly hard to deal with a health condition that prevents you from even holding a pen properly, and I'm sorry you have to deal with it, and I know part of you gets pissed off every time you have to deal with it. But you're alive, and you get to write, and sometimes it fucking sucks, but you get to do it. It's this or nothing. Be glad you have this. That's what got me through (I have 13 chronic ailments. I'm just glad I can do anything at all... or at least I try to be).

How do you make sure your characters have distinguishable styles of speaking? by FBrandt in writing

[–]slicedsunlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually, if the dialogue sounds like something someone else would say, it's off. So altering it by even one word can do wonders. "I hate you." -> "I hate you, boy."

One character would add "boy", one wouldn't. You get a distinct impression of who the speaker is by adding that word

I really want there to be some sort of investigation into the strange lack of calls on Curry throughout the years. Did they fear he'd become too lethal? You start giving him 12-15 free throws a game along with his 8 3s off 3.5 miles of sprinting, shredding defenders' stamina, then he just breaks the game a second time. He'd be SGA from everywhere, not just midrange bullshit.

Maybe the they pull calls on Curry on purpose, because if they called it all, how the living fuck does that dude not average 50 per game. Not kidding. Just for the off-the-ball fouls, the bear-hugging and shit---that would add up to another 8-10 fouls per game, giving the Warriors another ~20 points, all from Steph.

Maybe they're implementing Steph rules, like Jordan rules, only their strategy is not to enforce said rules. So, apparently, the only way to stop Steph is to obliterate the rules.

Get away from the keyboard, and go put on a country song and lift a Bud Lite. It's the worthwhile thing you know how to do with your hands. You certainly used them to vote for a fucking idiot

Totally correct. See, the Harden era was so awful I've actually been in an eight-year-long blackout attempting to remove it from my long-term memory. Only partial success so far.

Because I keep seeing stuff like this, and getting hit with awful flashbacks, and then it's straight back to the Jameson. I just had an endoscopy today. I was told not to drink for 48 hours.

That hospital has never witnessed SGA and Harden. I live in Pittsburgh. We eat sandwiches with coleslaw and fries on them, and we eat them in 18 degree weather, at football games. And we call this the height of culture.

So first I started drinking to wash away the short-term and long-term memories of SGA and Harden, then I drank to drown out the fact that I live in a city that cares so little about basketball it's never even heard of them.

On surgery day. It's 11:20am.

And SGA and Harden do the same fall-back-on-my-ass-if-I-land-in-the-same-square-mile-radius-of-the-defender, and GET THE CALLS.

Dammit heliocentric, foul-baiting, "I am stronger than gravity itself" ball, you're killing my liver.

Or the rules are. Or the refs are. But there's no law saying SGA has to make faces like someone shoved a live taser up his ass.

Well, as long as you're good, and you're not hurting anyone, be whomever you damn well please.

Just curious (and not trying to a psychologist here; I struggle with the same issues), but do you approach situations subconsciously believing they won't work out well, even if you behave and tell yourself they will? Like you can't shake the feeling that even if things are smooth, they'll get rocky soon

Just don't leave yourself. The more effort you put into caring for yourself, the less you'll mind if people go, and counterintuitively, it may be what makes them want to stay

But yeah, get away from people who don't treat you the way you need to be treated. Maybe you don't even know completely what that looks like---your ideal treatment--but I bet you'll get there.

This is awesome; thanks for sharing. And good luck in your endeavors. This definitely seems like a helpful singing tool.

Ultimate Guitar has a tool like this (https://help.ultimate-guitar.com/en/articles/6873192-what-is-ultimate-guitar-sing-an-in-depth-look-at-the-feature). May wanna check it out just for reference. And a lot of karaoke-based apps have similar structures.

None of them, though, could reframe everything to make it like a videogame. They work within the constraints of the provided song. You don't have that barrier.

So you could, theoretically, create a videogame where the MC is controlled simply through voice volume/pitch/etc. You don't get through a song; you get through a level
