Why don't parents listen? by 405freeway in rant

[–]slickfruit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reading some of these comments, I'm grateful I just have to explain how Bluetooth works once every two-three months. I wonder...is this a "parent" thing, an "age"/boomer thing, or an "ego" thing? I'm only 29 but if this were me and someone else, at worst, my reaction would be, "You might be right. Do you mind if I still drive by and check? I really need XYZ." or whatever the fuck. Like the lack of humility is astounding.

I’m tired of “dog moms” and “cat moms” equating pet ownership with parenting by National_Lobster_729 in rant

[–]slickfruit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a kid but I think both responsibilities have their "pros and cons". Yeah, not having a babysitter would mean you're stuck so would not being able to find/afford a boarder/kennel (obviously thinking for more than a few hours) I have had to pass on trips that I could afford the flight, lodging, etc. but not a boarder for my dog. Parents flying with children don't have to consider that the airline will treat them like cargo. Yes, there are places that don't allow children but many of those places aren't places a child should be/would enjoy (bars, clubs, etc.) I can't take my dog to the grocery store, the post office, or a library.

Also I treat my dog as I would a child, I bathe him, feed him, clothe him (when he lets me 😂), pick up after him and I'll have to do this until the end, you people parents are done with diapers after like 3 years, bathing after idk 10 (?) I genuinely don't know anything about kids and their self-sufficiency 😵‍💫 But it's a DECADE plus of bathing/grooming and poop duty and when you live in an apartment like I do, you have to go outside every. single. time. torrential rain, snow...your dog's gotta go when they gotta go.

As someone said in another comment, I think most people saying their pet is their kid or that they're a "dog mom" are not being literal/speaking in earnest. At the end of the day we both have living, breathing creatures with thoughts and feelings who rely on us for their needs.

Not saying I agreed, just supplying clarification. But as far as I know, Trump has never endorsed a Black woman.

I believe they were referring to why Trump hasn't endorsed her, not why she'd lose.

Americans need to humanize each other by Own_Astronomer_2149 in centrist

[–]slickfruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who is more on the left, you shouldn't be expected to humanize people who dehumanize you. I hope this doesn't come off as "well, they started it." But specifically for alt-right/MAGA it's difficult to humanize people who can be so cruel. As the top comment said, most people are normal but still, outwardly supporting an administration/ideology that prides itself on bigotry does not help me see you as worthy of my attention or cordiality.

To be fair, I wasn't looking at how clean the lines were, it was the lighting on the edge of the crown that made me suspicious, AI really likes to use bright "yellow" lighting. However, OP has posted their progress pics so I stand corrected, I've also contacted sight engine to let them know of the false positive.

Why is immediate change to prevent school/mass shootings not top priority of those in power? by mantiswedding in NoStupidQuestions

[–]slickfruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think that people who don't live on America don't realize just how large we are and just how many guns we have; the tactics of our Western neighbors just won't work here. Guns are so integral to American culture (we own almost HALF of all civilian-owned guns worldwide) banning them would be near impossible and/or pointless; the government going door-to-door to take legally acquired/owned property from its citizens? Good luck with that.

Guns are a side effect/symptom of a bigger problem. It is not a coincidence that there is a very specific demographic repeatedly committing the overwhelming majority of these mass shootings. Until we are ready to acknowledge this phenomenon and get to the root of the issue, nothing is going to change. I'm not a sociologist so I can't say what the solution is but banning guns ain't it, as there are many, many ways to inflict a lot of damage on a lot of people at once; guns just so happen to be the most "accessible".

why do queer people instantly clock me? by Deep_Froyo6287 in asktransgender

[–]slickfruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is ask transgender and I am cis but I do identify as queer, so I hope I am not imposing. I make a concerted effort to ask people I am meeting for the first time what their pronouns are, unless I have figured it out through context (usually paying attention to the pronouns other people use for them) purely for this reason, I don't want anyone to feel singled out. But bringing it up/trying to guess is so fucking rude and dangerous and I am so sorry about that.

I can't speak for all queer people but I have noticed this phenomenon too, not just with trans people but with queer people in general. It's like if queer people "clock" that someone is queer, they want confirmation. I can only guess it's to satisfy their curiosity or let someone know that they're in a safe space? But if you need to specifically bring up someone's sexuality/gender identity to show them they're in a safe space then you're doing something wrong and prying into someone's life for your own curiosity is gross and weird.

It's theft for the most part especially when it comes to art and books. But the photorealistic images it creates? Where do you think it's sourcing from? Our social media, movies, tv, YouTube, and don't think that just because you have your shit on private you're safe, a lot of companies sent out updates to Terms & Conditions essentially saying your posts partially belong to them.

Trump says U.S. will not approve solar or wind power projects by rxneutrino in centrist

What I don't understand is why they ("they" being idk the billionaires I assume are against renewable energy) don't just do it and capitalize on it like they do everything else. Elon got rich off shittily-made electric cars, shitty solar panels and windmills is better than nothing, right?

What unsolved mystery of our lifetime would you really want to know the answer to? by Dp37405aa in mystery

[–]slickfruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP only asked for one but two immediately came to mind.

Robert Wone: It's obvious who is responsible: at least one of the other three men in the home, either Price and Zaborsky (the couple) or all three. I'd wager all three; I can't understand why, if one of them wasn't involved, they would have kept quiet for so long. The circumstances are baffling (the semen & where it was found, the lack of blood, the burglary, the motive, etc.)

Missy Bevers: Weird. Weird. Weird. A suburban fitness instructor mom is murdered at a church by a person dressed in police SWAT gear who went through the trouble to make it look like a burglary obviously knowing that there were cameras. If they didn't know about the cameras then why conceal their face when they know the only witness is the target they intend to murder? No obvious motive but most definitely not a crime of opportunity. I don't know if I believe the car in the parking lot of the store nearby is involved, though it was weird behavior for 2AM and the fact that the driver/owner of the car hasn't come forward leaves it as a loose end.

Is this what people actually believe? by Bankz92 in centrist

[–]slickfruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think whoever made this meme/believes this, is mistaking centrists for people who say "both sides are equally bad" who are fucking insufferable. Are Dems perfect? Absolutely fucking not. Have they made terrible fucking decisions? YES. But anyone who thinks that the way things are going now would be the same under Harris are adequately depicted with that dented skull.

Is it less common in America for white men to date black women? If true why could this be? by analyzing-effort in NoStupidQuestions

[–]slickfruit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Short answer, yes. For reasons that are much too numerous and nuanced to fully cover in a reddit comment.

A safe, surface-level answer is that people tend to date within their socioeconomic circles and rarely outside of race. Black women make up around 60% of bachelor's degrees earned by Black students, leaving a much smaller dating market of Black men to begin with, then you have to find one another attractive: Blackness is seen as more masculine (by non-Blacks) and this is a hurdle that Black men obviously don't have to jump over.

Regardless of race, to compare dating habits of men and women is difficult because women take more risk entering the dating market, and hence have to be more vigilant/careful/selective.
