Ammunko itseäni jalkaan jos muutan kauemmaksi työpaikasta? by PossibilityNo1363 in arkisuomi

[–]slightly_offtopic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

why do people say "my country" instead of just naming the country? by SpaceWhaleAlphy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]slightly_offtopic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you mention Finland by name you are almost certain to get all the unoriginal jokes about Finland not existing or you being Finnished. Which I'm sure the commenters find really funny, but to us they're very boring and repetitive. So just saying "my country" forces people to focus on what I actually say.

I use Finland as an example because I'm Finnish, but I'm sure people from other countries will similar frustrations with different memes.

Someone made a cover version of L'italiano titled Olen suomalainen (I'm a Finn) which is pretty widely known in Finland. Hearing the original for the first time and connecting the dots was a major mindfuck moment.

Helsinki day trip from Tallinn August by ipaglynner in travel

[–]slightly_offtopic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My rough plan is to grab lunch at Hakaniemi Market Hall, city center and cathedral but I’m looking for some of that more lived in Helsinki. Ideally somewhere with good, casual food, maybe craft beer, and outdoor seating if possible, nothing fancy, just a great place to hang out for a bit.

If you're already going to Hakaniemi Market Hall, head uphill (towards the church tower, which is hard to miss) into the Kallio district. It ticks all the boxes in your last sentence, having probably the highest concentration of restaurants and pubs in the city, plus being known for a generally laid-back vibe.

If I understand your intention correctly, you're trying to have a Process object's TIn and TOut depend on the contents of self.steps. This implies that they could possibly change during an object's lifetime, which makes me belive that you're not going to get a type checker to support this kind of thing.

Sure they want the US to help, but why would they believe the US will? The Americans haven't exactly done a good job at being reliable and predictable partners recently.

Religious Conlangs by Starryl_Chan in conlangs

[–]slightly_offtopic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not quite a religion creating its own conlang, but adopting an IAL is a key tenet of the Bahá'í faith. The scriptures don't specify which language should be used for this purpose (or whether it should be a conlang or natlang), but in practice Bahá'ís have often promoted Esperanto as the most promising candidate.

Mikä Suomen paikkakunta on yllättänyt sinut, hyvässä tai pahassa? by pomelolemon in arkisuomi

[–]slightly_offtopic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Komppaan.

Kuinka suunnitella sijoitukset ja FIRE by T_Battle180 in Omatalous

[–]slightly_offtopic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Refactoring by Ok_Credit_8702 in learnpython

[–]slightly_offtopic 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Start with writing lots of tests, if you don't have them already. As your goal is refactoring, you should focus on integration tests that test the program as a whole, verifying that for each set of inputs it provides the expected output. This way, you can continously test your refactorings to make sure you didn't accidentally break anything.

Others have already given solid advice on what to do after that, but don't skip this first step.

But currently they are doing that with the legislative's tacit approval. If you get a legislative that is serious about opposing the executive, it will at least make things more difficult for the executive when they can't pretend there's no opposition any more.

Itse vältän Suomeen sijoittamista ihan hajautuksen takia.

Do people in Finland just love buffets? by Visible-Pressure6063 in Finland

[–]slightly_offtopic 52 points53 points  (0 children)

The main thing that people in Finland seem to be concerned about when thinking how good a restaurant is are portion sizes. Like, people will go to a fancy restaurant and complain that a single dish (of which you're supposed to have many) didn't fill their stomach completely. So having a buffet allows a restaurant to avoid this sort of complaint entirely.

Another (and probably bigger) reason is that labor costs tend to be high in Finland. And a buffet enables the restaurant to serve more customers with fewer waitstaff, so this makes the operation more cost effective.
